RFK’s ReactionWHAT DID HIS BROTHER THINK?

Page 3: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Project Freedom

RFK felt that many aspects of Project Freedom (Castro Assassination Plot) were seen in JFK’s assassination Controlling of evidence by CIA Low-level operatives working with mafia on the ground Trafficante and Marcello knew about plan

RFK’s reaction to assassination Phones Project Freedom’s leader, Harry Williams, and blatantly asked, “Did one

of your guys do it?” Confirmed by writer Haynes Johnson who was present

He was also under the impression that RFK had known LHO’s name from somewhere

Some theorists argue that RFK helped orchestrate a benign cover-up due to the embarrassment of his brother being killed in his own plan

Page 4: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Personal Effects

RFK’s power as attorney general essentially ended when JFK was killed. He lost his strongest ally

Never got along with LBJ, but this was made worse following a phone call immediately after the assassination

For the rest of his life, RFK stood by the Warren Commission in public, but privately to his associates, he didn’t believe it. However, he never opened up as to who he think did it. "It is evident that he believes that the Warren Commission was a poor job and will not

endorse it, but that he is unwilling to criticize it and thereby reopen the whole tragic business.“- Arthur Schlesinger

On the campaign trail before his death four years later, he told an audience that he would go into the Warren Commission files to investigate for himself but only at a time he deemed appropriate

Many associates felt that if he had become president, he would have examined the files

What Jackie Kennedy said: “On the day Jack was murdered, I happened to be looking at the

large green Stemmons Freeway sign, as we were passing the grassy knoll. I saw a chunk of the green wooden sign suddenly shatter outwards and fly towards Jack and me. Then Jack was hit in the throat. I reached out to him. As I did, he was shot in the right side of his head. Just above his right eye. It was horrible. I saw the right side of his head fly onto the back of the car. I leaned back and reached for it. I just wanted to put Jack back together. It was an instinctual response. In hindsight, I guess that was the first bullet smashing through the freeway sign that hit Jack in the throat. I heard five shots fired at Jack from behind the freeway sign. I can still hear those five shots in my dreams. All shots seemed to come from behind that freeway sign.”- As told to historian Arthur Schlesinger

A Review of the HSCA (1976-1979)THE COMMITTEE THAT WAS THE BEST AND WORST THING TO EVER HAPPEN TO JFK CONSPIRACIES

Page 7: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

For conspiracy?

The HSCA concluded that JFK was assassinated as part of a “probable” conspiracy and it was likely 4 shots were fired

It was probable that the second shooter fired from the Grassy Knoll and/or picket fence area

HOWEVER, it agreed with many of the Warren Commission’s findings, including: Oswald firing 3 shots from the TSBD The Single Bullet Theory causing all of Kennedy’s wounds The fatal head shot coming from Oswald

Page 8: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

What they said: Lee Harvey Oswald fired three shots at Kennedy. The second and third shots Oswald fired struck the President. The

third shot he fired killed the President. Scientific acoustical evidence establishes a high probability that at least two gunmen fired at the President. Other

scientific evidence does not preclude the possibility of two gunmen firing at the President. Scientific evidence negates some specific conspiracy allegations.

The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that Kennedy was probably assassinated as a result of a conspiracy. The committee was unable to identify the other gunmen or the extent of the conspiracy.

The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that the Soviet Government was not involved in the assassination of Kennedy.

The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that the Cuban Government was not involved in the assassination of Kennedy.

The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that anti-Castro Cuban groups, as groups, were not involved in the assassination of Kennedy, but that the available evidence does not preclude the possibility that individual members may have been involved.

The committee believes, on the basis of the evidence available to it, that the national syndicate of organized crime, as a group, was not involved in the assassination of Kennedy, but that the available evidence does not preclude the possibility that individual members may have been involved.

The Secret Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Central Intelligence Agency were not involved in the assassination of Kennedy.

Agencies and departments of the U.S. Government performed with varying degrees of competency in the fulfillment of their duties. President Kennedy did not receive adequate protection. A thorough and reliable investigation into the responsibility of Lee Harvey Oswald for the assassination was conducted. The investigation into the possibility of conspiracy in the assassination was inadequate. The conclusions of the investigations were arrived at in good faith, but presented in a fashion that was too definitive.

Page 9: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

What the critics say:

The HSCA failed to thoroughly examine all of the available evidence, using many of the same pieces the WC used

The evidence they claim helped establish a conspiracy was then sealed for 50 years (the year of release keeps changing)

They made no effort to investigate their own conspiracy claims Not one person they established was lying or hiding information

in their testimony to them was charged with perjury

Page 10: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

The Chief Counsel of HSCA:

“I no longer believe that we were able to conduct an appropriate investigation of the [Central Intelligence] Agency and its relationship to Oswald.... We now know that the Agency withheld from the Warren Commission the CIA-Mafia plots to kill Castro. Had the commission known of the plots, it would have followed a different path in its investigation. The Agency unilaterally deprived the commission of a chance to obtain the full truth, which will now never be known. Significantly, the Warren Commission's conclusion that the agencies of the government co-operated with it is, in retrospect, not the truth. We also now know that the Agency set up a process that could only have been designed to frustrate the ability of the committee in 1976-79 to obtain any information that might adversely affect the Agency. Many have told me that the culture of the Agency is one of prevarication and dissimulation and that you cannot trust it or its people. Period. End of story. I am now in that camp.”- Robert Blakey

After the proceedings it was revealed that the CIA’s liaison to the HSCA (George Joannides) was involved with the same covert Castro groups as Oswald in the 1960’s

The Dictabelt Recording

Page 12: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Came to the HSCA’s attention in 1978 Recorded on a policeman’s dictabelt on Dallas PD Channel 1 Some claim there are 4 shots present, but only 3 are definitely

heard However, 2 of the shots on simultaneous, therefore they could

not have been fired by the same person There is also something else interesting heard on the recording Link: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nq-ZJ99qaCc

THEORY: A conservative plot to kill Kennedy…in Miami

Page 14: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

The Miami Connection

On November 4, 1963, a FBI informant named Willie Somersett working for the Miami PD recorded a conversation he had with Joseph Milteer (who was being investigated for something else). It eventually led to the topic of JFK and a planned hit:

Milteer said that an assassination attempt was “in the works” and it would be done “from an office building with a high-powered rifle”

Secret Service could not offer adequate protection Gun could be transported in pieces Kennedy was to be taken out in Miami during a motorcade on Nov. 18

Miami PD changes motorcade route to a helicopter transport upon hearing this information

Most telling quote of all: “They’ll pick someone up within hours after he is killed to throw the public off.”

Milteer is interviewed by FBI after assassination, but not by Warren Commission. Deemed to be not credible.

Page 15: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)
Page 16: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

“Joseph Milteer, the right-wing extremist who said two weeks before the assassination that the President's murder was "in the working," told a police informant afterward that "Everything ran true to form. I guess you thought I was kidding you when I said he would be killed from a window with a high-powered rifle." Asked whether he was guessing when he made the original remark, Milteer replied, "I don't do any guessing." According to the informant, Milteer said there was no need "to worry about Lee Harvey Oswald getting caught because he doesn't know anything." The right wing, said Milteer, was "in the clear," adding that "the patriots have outsmarted the Communist group in order that the Communists would carry out the plan without the right wing becoming involved.“”

- Anthony Summers, from his book CONSPIRACY

Page 17: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Lucky guess, or really involved?

Other than these explicit recordings, there is nothing to suggest he was involved

Investigators are split on how serious Milteer may have been He could have just been blowing off steam (he hated Kennedy)

and his plans of assassination just happen to make sense But then there’s this photo…

Page 18: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)
Page 19: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Either way, what went wrong?

Col. Fletcher Prouty: Area should have been studied by Secret Service for weeks before

trip Military Units normally called up to patrol the streets during a

motorcade Secret Service should have made sure all windows were closed There were no Secret Service deployed on the ground in Dallas that

day Many agents were out partying until 4 a.m the night before and were

still allowed to work (strictly forbidden) Should have been a straight run on Main Street where they could

drive 25-40 MPH, not turn onto Elm and Houston, traveling 10-15 MPH

Any open car motorcade traveling under 40 MPH requires full protection with agents riding on the president’s car

Page 20: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

THEORY: Oswald is in the doorway

Page 21: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Almost immediately after publication, people recognized Oswald. Government investigationsoon explained that it was actually a TSBD worker named Bill Lovelady. Some have claimed the photo was tampered with to obscure Oswald.

Page 22: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)
Page 23: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

In his own testimony, Lovelady said he was down on the steps to watch the motorcade.

Judyth Baker Tells AllTHE ALLEGED MISTRESS OF LEE HARVEY OSWALD OPENED UP IN 2003 AS TO HIS INVOLVEMENT WITH THE ASSASSINATION

Page 33: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Judy Vary Baker

A young “whiz kid” medical student in Florida Offered scholarships and chances to study at top laboratories Worked with Dr. Alton Oschner (cancer research)

Roswell Park University of Florida (studied deadly cancers)

Her dream in life was to work on a cure for cancer Met Lee Harvey Oswald during this cancer research, where they

then fell in love Claimed they and quite a few others were involved in a CIA-led bio-

weapons plot to kill Castro Studies were clandestine

Page 34: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Travels to New Orleans to work with Oschner Fell in love with Oswald immediately at a grocery store He introduced her to David Ferrie (described as Dr. Ferrie)

Ferrie knowledgeable on cancer research Also introduces her to Guy Bannister

Oswald and Bannister were working on an anti-castro project Military equipment seen in his office Training Cubans for a second invasion of Cuba

Page 35: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Meets at hospital and learns of the Castro plot She is told it is important that Castro dies without violence as to

not incite a war Her and Oswald are assigned various cover jobs to have while

working in the laboratory, at the Reilly Coffee Company Helps develop deadly virus with LHO and injects mice with it Claims Ferrie was always interacting with Ruby and Oswald

Overheard Ruby saying how he knew Oswald when he was a child Clay Shaw is somehow involved (the man with the money)

He helps Baker and LHO see each other by paying for their hotel rooms

Page 36: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Over time, the same anti-Castro operatives became interested in killing Kennedy because he had “gone soft” on communism

If they could not get Castro then they would get Kennedy instead Oswald fakes his feelings in public, pretending to be pro-Castro Baker eventually gets dismissed by Oschner after an argument over

injecting humans with the test virus She meets LHO one more time in the last three months before the

assassination, but they remain in phone contact Oswald said he had CIA contacts in Mexico and that his trip to Mexico City

was to deliver cancer material to the people who would then assassinate Castro

However, the Castro assassination was then aborted due to a hurricane in Cuba. LHO is given new orders and job placement at the TSBD

Page 37: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Final conversations they had over the phone became desperate LHO had infiltrated an anti-Kennedy group unintentionally via his

dealings with Ferrie and the Castro groups he was working with He had to play the part of an interested party to not blow cover The original plan was to kill Kennedy at Love Field in Dallas, with Dealey

Plaza being the backup plan. This was then changed He tells Baker that he is trying to save JFK but has to be careful. One

other person in the group was on his side “They’re going to try to blame me.”

Said he could not remove himself and was excited that he infiltrated group in time and had the chance to save JFK “If I stay, there will be one less bullet fired at Kennedy.”

Page 38: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Names two of the would-be assassins/conspirators: Billy Sol Estes and Bobby Baker

Associates of LBJ on the verge on being investigated Claims David Atlee Phillips was his CIA handler Following assassination: 12 hours later, Ferrie calls her and said

things went wrong and he was trying to help Oswald get out Two weeks later, after LHO is killed, he calls her and warns her to

keep her mouth shut. She could not be a public figure and needed to avoid spotlight

Says mafia leaders Santos Trafficante and Carlos Marcello are watching her

Page 39: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Problems and Doubt While we know for a fact that Baker and Oswald DID work together at the Reilly

Coffee Co. in New Orleans, the rest of their friendship is unknown People have come forward in recent years to say yes, the two were good friends, the

extent of their relationship cannot be proven beyond her words Most of the JFK Conspiracy crowd regards her as either crazy or an attention-seeker

trying to sell an entertaining story She does have two strong allies: Jim Marrs and Dr. Edward Haslam For further research, look up “14 Reasons to Believe in Judyth vary Baker” online

If you watch her interview, it seems sincere, but it could just be well-acted. She is also a fiction writer. Perhaps she has an incredible imagination?

Major problem: she waits too long to come forward. She manages to work every major conspiracy figure into the story in some way. Many names from the movie JFK and other prominent documentaries make their way into her story

Her life was thrown upside down by the airing of her interview in 2003. She has received death threats, break-ins, and misinformation spread about her by Tabloids. Currently lives in Europe

I want to believe her, but the jury is still out

Page 40: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

David Ferrie: The Key to the Assassination?

The truth about Ferrie is clouded due to so many exaggerations and stories

What we know: involved with anti-Castro Cubans and a CIA led Operation Mongoose which was training mercenaries for an invasion of Cuba Confirmed agent of the CIA Skilled pilot with Civil War Patrol Affected by Kennedy firing CIA head Allan Dulles because the operation was

called off He is the link between Lee Harvey Oswald and Jack Ruby Swore he never met Oswald and did not know him One of Jim Garrison’s star witnesses in the trial of Clay Shaw in 1967 Died under mysterious circumstances during the trial

Theory: JFK’s body/autopsy were doctored by an expert mortician

Page 47: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

The story of John Liggitt

As told by his ex-wife: A highly skilled embalmer who worked for Restland outside of Dallas Charming, intelligent, one of the best embalmers in the business Always called out of work, sometimes on short notice, and

disappeared for days on end (according to wife and co-workers) Day of assassination:

Call to Parkland hospital. Told wife he assumed it was to prepare the body of JFK

Said he had lots of work to do and for her not to reach out Came home 24 hours later looking traumatized and exhausted

Page 48: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Following his return, he took the family on a road trip to San Antonio and then Corpus Christi.

Told them they had to get away “until it all blows over” Watched/listened to the news intently during the trip As soon as he saw Oswald murdered: “Everything is going to be

okay now.” Shortly after, he came into a lot of money

Changed his lifestyle, bought new house, turned to gambling Daughter claimed he had visits from David Ferrie and that they

served on Civil War Patrol together in the past

Page 49: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Gets divorced from wife telling the story Liggitt arrested in 1974 for attempted murder of his current wife,

police then link him to other murders After his arrest, he was killed by Police after breaking free during

a transfer His brother Malcolm felt he knew something about JFK In 1992, his last wife told his ex-wife that when she viewed his

body in 1974, she swore it was not his body In the late 90’s, his ex-wife claims she caught a glimpse of a man

who resembled Liggitt working a casino in Las Vegas

War is Business

“We have to breathe the same air. We have to live together, or we will die together.”- Speech at American University months prior to assassination

War hawks in the military and CIA were furious about Kennedy’s refusal to order a second invasion of Cuba AND his lukewarm approach the situation in Vietnam

Issues a reevaluation which deems it unnecessary for US troops to be sent to fight in Vietnam. As of November 1963 the goal was to bring 1,000 troops home by the end of the year, and then the rest would gradually phase out by the end of 1964

Three days after the assassination, a reevaluation of the reevaluation was ordered, and troops were going to be recommitted to Vietnam for a full-scale war

Sen. Ralph Yarbrough: “We have no Vietnam War with Kennedy.”

Page 52: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

“For some time I have been disturbed by the way the CIA has been diverted from its original assignment. It has become an operational and at times a policy-making arm of the government. This has led to trouble and may have compounded our difficulties in several explosive areas ... There is something about the way the CIA has been functioning that is casting a shadow over our historic position and I feel that we need to correct it.“- Harry Truman in an op-ed, published one month after assassination (Dec. 22, 1963)

Page 53: JFK Assassination Conspiracy Theories (Pt. 2 of 2)

Lt. Col. Dan Marvin Opened up in 1996 Member of a Special Forces Team training at Fort Bragg that

specialized on international assassinations He was invited into a commander’s office in 1964 and in the office

was a layout of Dealey Plaza with pictures of the assassination he had never seen

He got the impression the CIA was involved and Oswald was not Commander remarked to a fellow officer: “Things really did go well.”

It was then where he was asked to kill William Pitzer at Bethesda He refused the request out of conscience and also remarked that the

mafia was usually used for hits inside the US Hit then offered to a Capt. David Vanek (who was never seen or heard

from again)

“The FBI said they interviewed 2,500 witnesses. The probability that 38 would be killed in 3 years is less than 1 in 10 BILLION TRILLION. The probability that 80 would be killed in 15 years is less than 1 in 2 TRILLION.”- Mathematician Richard Charnin
