Pledge for Parity International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day 2016 Globally, women continue to contribute to the social, economic, cultural and political success of the society. Each year, the International Women’s Day is celebrated to reflect on their achievements, to call for change and to celebrate acts of courage and determination by women who have played an extraordinary role in making a difference in the society. While there is a lot to celebrate, there is a lot more to be done. The World Economic Forum in its Global Gender Gap Report 2015 estimates it will take until 117 years to achieve global gender parity in the workplace. In essence, the global empowerment of women cannot happen overnight. It will require persistence and a dedicated commitment to realize change on a global scale. We are on a journey, and it will take time to embrace the full potential of women at workforce. However, together, we can help accelerate that change by working together to strengthen the institutional arrangements, to reorganize norms and provide equal opportunities for all.

Doing our bit by pledging for parity The principle of gender equality is enshrined in the Indian Constitution in its Preamble, Fundamental Rights, Fundamental Duties and Directive Principles. The Constitution of India not only grants equality to women but also empowers the State to adopt measures of positive discrimination in favour of women for neutralizing the cumulative socio economic, education and political disadvantages faced by them. In commemorating this year’s International Women’s Day, every man and women, can pledge and commit to make concentrated efforts in accelerating gender party. This can be a pledge for women at your workplace to: ► Help achieve their ambition ► Promote gender balanced leadership ► Respect and value differences ► Stand up equality of rights ► Call for diversity and inclusiveness at workplace
