1About Infor ION Business Vault

This chapter describes Infor ION Business Vault and Infor ION Business Vault Enterprise Edition. Itincludes an overview of the Business Vault and its key features.

Infor ION Business Vault Product OverviewThese are the primary features of the Infor ION Business Vault and Infor ION Business Vault EnterpriseEdition:• To store Business Object Documents (BODs) in the Raw Data Vault (RDV). The RDV is a repository

that contains all versions of new and modified documents sent to the Business Vault by Infor ION.To receive BODs from ION, you must set up an ION connection point with document flows.

• To extract and map content from the BODs in the RDV to fill purpose-built relational databases, ordata stores. Data stores are the source of information for Infor ION Business Analytics and InforReporting operational reports.

• To model cubes, dimensions, and hierarchies for multi-dimensional analysis (Enterprise Editiononly).

The Business Vault includes these key features:• Raw Data Vault

You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variationsof the BOD messages. You can use the document trace and monitoring functions to track andtroubleshoot BOD processing into the RDV.

• Data StoresYou can use the Business Vault to configure and activate data stores and BOD mappings. Datastores are the relational databases that contain data mapped from the BODs. You can configurecustom BOD mappings and import BOD mappings for the Infor Business Vault Base Data Storedatabase. BOD mappings provide the instructions to parse information from a BOD into a data store. The data stores process information from the BODs into the relational databases in real-time, makingthe data available for operational reports and analysis. Use the document trace and monitoringfunctions to track and troubleshoot BOD processing into the data stores.

• Replays

Infor ION Business Vault – Administration Guide | 9

Page 10: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

You can use replays to load historic BOD data into a data store. Replays are useful to populate anew data store or to re-run specific BODs to update a data store. The BODs are stored in the RDV.There is no additional processing required from the source systems that originally sent the BODs.

• Analytic ModelingWith Infor ION Business Vault Enterprise Edition, you can use analytic modeling to create cubes, dimensions, and hierarchies. This information is published to an analytics application such as InforBI OLAP Server for business intelligence use. The analytic modeling features allow you to designlevel-based hierarchies, manual hierarchies, range-based hierarchies, and rule-based hierarchies.Hierarchies are selected for analytic dimensions. You can incorporate dimensions intomulti-dimensional Infor BI OLAP Server cubes, where you combine dimensions and facts. You canpublish dimensions and cubes to target applications on-demand or on a scheduled basis.

Infor ION Business Vault and Infor ION Business VaultEnterprise Edition pagesYou can access the Business Vault through a web browser and navigate the Business Vault using themenu bar.

The menu bar includes these options:• Data Store Management: Opens the data store configuration pages which include:

2Understanding Infor ION Business Vaultconcepts

This chapter describes key concepts of the Infor ION Business Vault and Infor ION Business VaultEnterprise Edition.

Raw Data VaultAfter the Business Vault receives a BOD, it is stored in the Raw Data Vault. The Raw Data Vaultcompresses and stores all versions of the BODs that are published to the Business Vault from ION.This includes standard Infor BODs, huge BODs, and custom BODs. To route the BODs to the BusinessVault, you must define ION connection points and document flows. The Business Vault is not theSystem of Record (SOR) for any of these documents.

The original BOD source document is stored in the Raw Data Vault in a manner in which it can bereconstructed to its original form and be replayed without the source system re-publishing historicaltransactions and master data. You can also search and review these BOD original messages by usingthe Document Trace page.

The Raw Data Vault database supports only Microsoft SQL Server.

Infor BODsMetadata for all standard Infor BODs is delivered with the Business Vault. All of these Infor standardBODs are supported with the exception of the Error BOD. The Business Vault supports Process, Sync, and Show verbs. Only Sync and Show verbs are extracted into data stores.

When performing an initial load to the Business Vault using Show verbs, you will need to populate theBOD with a Logical ID (lid). This is specified on the connection point you create for the Business Vaultin ION.

Note: You must have this Logical ID for Show verbs to be routed to the Business Vault.

Infor ION Business Vault – Administration Guide | 15

Page 16: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

Custom BOD supportA custom BOD is an XML document for data that is not included in a standard Infor BOD. You can usecustom BODs to extend Infor-Locked content with additional BOD content. You can create customBODs if you have custom data in your Infor or third party application that you need to include in acustom report. You create custom BODs in ION and they are stored in the Raw Data Vault. When youdefine a custom BOD in ION, you must provide additional configuration in the Business Vault. For moreinformation, see "Configuring Custom BODs in the Business Vault" on page 28.

Custom data stores are created to support custom BODs. Custom BODs are extracted or shreddedinto custom data stores based on BOD mappings. You can use the BOD mapping generator wizard togenerate the BOD mappings.

For more information on ION custom BODs, see the Infor ION Technical Reference Guide.

Huge BOD supportThe Raw Data Vault captures and stores Huge BODs. Huge BODs are defined as a single documentthat spans multiple BODs. You can search for Huge BODs on the Document Trace page.

Data Stores and BOD mappingsThe Business Vault includes tools that extract data from BODs to fill purpose-built relational databases,or data stores. One or more data stores with BOD mappings can be configured and activated in theBusiness Vault. A data store is a relational database to which BOD data is extracted for use by InforReporting and Infor ION Business Analytics.

The following data stores are supported:• Infor Locked Content Data Stores: These data stores contain Infor Locked Content through BOD

mappings. You can only change the XPath and Default Value fields for an XPath with User Areasand Classification Codes to extend Infor-Locked Content with additional BOD content.

• Custom Data Stores: These data stores support Custom BODs and other client customization.

In the Business Vault application, you create a data store. Once a data store is defined, you can addone or more BOD mappings to the data store. BOD mappings provide the instructions to parseinformation from a BOD into a data store. You can use the Business Vault user interface to enter BODmappings manually.

The Business Vault includes a generator wizard that creates BOD mappings from existing BODinstances. This tool eliminates the manual process to enter your BOD mappings and minimizes errors.A tool is also provided to generate a database script to create database tables and columns.

After a data store is activated, BODs are routed to and processed by the Business Vault and populatedinto a relational data store. You can use the Data Store Monitor to check your data stores that have

been activated at least once and verify that the BODs have processed correctly or if errors have beenencountered. You can use the Document Trace page to view the history of a BOD in the BusinessVault. The history includes the start and end time stamps for each BOD as it is extracted and if anyerrors are encountered.

ReplaysThe Raw Data Vault stores the original BOD source document it its original form. These BODs can bereplayed without the source system having to re-publish historical transactions and master data. Youcan replay a selection of BODs from the Raw Data Vault to a data store. You can use the replay featureto refresh the data store if there are changes to the data store.

You can configure a replay, which involves providing a logical name for the replay and selecting thedata store to which to replay. Specific documents can be selected. You can run a replay for a specificaccounting entity, location, or a from and to date / time range when the BOD was processed by theRaw Data Vault.

After a replay is run, the BODs are resent from the Raw Data Vault to the selected data store. Activereplays can be monitored through the Replays Monitoring page.

Document TraceTo review specific BODs in the Raw Data Vault, you can use the Document Trace search feature withinthe Business Vault. This includes searching Infor standard BODs, Huge BODs or Custom BODs. Asimple or advanced search can be performed using a variety of search criteria. There is a view in XMLfor each BOD returned in your search results.

Additionally, you can use the Document Trace to see the processing for the BOD. For example, youcan see that the BOD was loaded into the Raw Data Vault successfully and if the BOD was loadedinto a data store successfully.

Analytic ModelingAnalytic modeling supports multi-dimensional reporting and is available in Infor ION Business VaultEnterprise Edition . Dimensions, hierarchies, and cubes are created for analysis purposes. You candefine the structure and properties of hierarchies, dimensions and cubes without coding. The data ispublished to a target database such as Infor BI OLAP Server.

Analytic modeling includes several features to model information for analysis. These features are:• Hierarchies

HierarchiesYou can build hierarchies to organize and structure your data so that it is easily accessible to cubes, reporting or business intelligence solutions. The hierarchy types are:• Level-based hierarchy: An organizational structure to group and aggregate dimensional data into

levels. You can use this type of hierarchy for large customer and product hierarchies in which thelevels are data-driven. You can define attribute values at each level and you can preview a sampleof the data in a hierarchy. When you publish the hierarchy, new and updated data in the data sourceis automatically incorporated into the hierarchy.

• Manual hierarchy: An organizational structure in which the hierarchy branches and leaves aredefined manually. You can use this type of hierarchy for smaller, fixed hierarchies such as currencytypes and measure hierarchies.

• Rule-based hierarchy: An organizational structure in which the hierarchy structure is definedmanually, and dimension members are assigned to the hierarchy either through direct assignmentor assignment rules. You can use this type of hierarchy for balance sheet and income statementaccount hierarchies.

DimensionsHierarchies are consolidated into dimensions. You can use dimensions to form the structure and contextof a cube. Common dimensions are customers, products, and time. The dimension contains informationabout the customers or products, and the hierarchies structure the members by categories such ascustomer geography or product classifications. Dimensions contain attributes, which are additionalproperties to describe the dimension members. There are two types of dimensions:• Standard dimensions: Include the dimension properties such as name, description, and type. You

define the attributes in a dimension, and you select the hierarchies to publish in the dimension.Optionally, you can specify a top-level node to aggregate multiple hierarchies into a dimension, andspecify subsets of dimension members for analysis purposes.

• Preconfigured dimensions: Define a more advanced dimension structure. The dimension utilizesa custom configuration defined in the source database and in the Business Vault database. Thepreconfigured dimension displays parameters for you to specify before saving and publishing thedimension. Preconfigured dimensions provide a method for Infor to tailor dimensions for specificanalysis requirements.

Page 19: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

CubesCubes are structures for multi-dimensional analysis. Cubes combine the dimensions such as customersand products along with quantitative values, called measures. You select dimensions for the cube andyou specify the facts, or the transaction sources, to associate dimension and measure values. Cubesare modeled in the Business Vault and published to a target.

PublishingDimensions and cube information are published to a target analysis application such as Infor BI OLAPServer. The Business Vault sends the dimension and cube fact data, and provides the setup instructionsto the target system. You can specify the source and target databases, cubes, facts, and dimensionsto publish in a publication definition.

You can validate the publication to ensure that the definitions and data are valid for the target application.Additionally, you can publish the dimensions and cubes with current definitions or with saved versions.Publications can be run on-demand or on a schedule. You can monitor the publication results andaccess audit details for publishing results.

ModelsModels are containers with user-friendly aliases for properties, entities, table relationships or joins, custom properties or expressions, custom entities, and preconfigured dimension configurations. Modelsare used to provide metadata for users defining hierarchies, dimensions and cubes. Models make iteasier for you to define hierarchies, dimensions and cubes by providing metadata. For example, theInfor Business Vault Base Data Store model has custom entities for codes in a common codes databasetable. If you are building definitions, you can use custom entities for currencies and sales order statuses.

Models are associated with database connections, because the objects in a model can be associatedwith one or more source databases. Objects in a model are maintained directly in the hierarchy, dimension and cube definitions. The objects are available for other definitions and database connectionsthat share the same model.

Import and ExportYou can import and export hierarchy, dimension, and cube definitions from one Business Vault installationto another. You can also import and export models from one installation to another. For example, youcan export definitions and models from a Business Vault test environment and import them into aBusiness Vault production environment.

3Understanding database connections

You can define database connections in the Business Vault. A database connection contains databaseinformation and connection details and is associated with data stores and BOD mappings. The databaseconnection is the source of the data to use while building dimensions, hierarchies, and cube definitions.Database connections are only relevant for the level-based and rule-based hierarchies. Databaseconnections are not required to build a manual hierarchy. The current database connection at the timeof publication is used for a manual hierarchy. Additionally, a database connection is the source of datawhen dimensions and cubes are published to a target. The Database Connections function is limitedto the BVDatabaseAdmin role.

If you make a change to a database connection while a BOD mapping is active for data stores andBOD mappings, the BOD mapping will continue to process with the previous database connectiondefinition. In order for the changes to take effect, you must stop and restart the Business Vault UserInterface (UI) and Runtime service or you can deactivate and reactivate the data store. See"Troubleshooting".

Configuring database connectionsBefore you define the database connection, create a database in Microsoft SQL Server .

Configuring Custom BODs in the Business VaultA custom BOD is an XML document for data that is not included in a standard Infor BOD. CustomBODs extend Infor-Locked Content with additional BOD content. You can create custom BODs forcustom data in Infor ION. When a custom BOD is defined in ION, some configuration is needed in theBusiness Vault to alert the vault of that custom BOD. For more information on ION custom BODs, seethe Infor ION Technical Reference Guide.

Custom data stores are created to support Custom BODs. Custom BODs are extracted or shreddedinto custom data stores based on BOD mappings. You can use the BOD mapping generator wizard togenerate the BOD mappings

Note: If you are running Infor ION 11.1 or later, there are individual files for each noun, [noun name].XML, instead of a single NounIDsInstance.XML. The instructions in this section refer to NounIDsInstance.XML. You can use the same process to configure the [noun name].XML. Copy the file(s)with the new names into the drop folder.

Additional Business Vault BOD information

Page 29: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

You can find the NounIDsInstance.XML file in Infor ION. This file defines the identifier for eachcustom noun. In ION, the NounIDsInstance.XML is located in this path: C:\Program Files\Infor\ION\Desk\bin\RegistryData\BodMetaData\Custom\XML\NounIDsInstance.xml.For more information on where to locate the NounIDsInstance.XML file in ION, see the Infor 10xION Technical Reference Guide.

Locate the NounIDsInstance.XML file in ION to determine if the custom noun is already in the NounIDsInstance.XML file. If it is, you can copy the file into the Business Vault. Manually copy the NounIDsInstance.XML into the Noun metadata drop folder location: <BV Install Folder>\BusinessVaultRuntimeService\webapps\com.infor.ion.bv.webservice.web\WEB-INF\classes\NounmetaDrop\

Note: When you install the Business Vault, a shortcut is created on your computer to the noun metadatadrop directory. This can be found in your Start Menu under the Business Vault folder in the NounMetadata Drop Folder.

Updating the Noun MetadataTo update the NounIDsInstance.XML file in the Noun Metadata Drop Folder:

1 Select Windows Start Menu.2 Browse to the location where the Business Vault is installed.3 Select the Noun Metadata Drop Folder. The installation creates a shortcut to this folder.4 After the NounIDsInstance.XML file is configured properly, save the file and copy the NounIDs

Instance.XML file into the Nounmetadata Drop Folder. If you receive a message that youneed administrator privileges, click Yes to continue. To process successfully, the Business Vaultservices must be running.

5 Wait while the Business Vault processes the file. Click Refresh.6 After the NounIDsInstance.XML file has completed processing, it is placed in a Processed

folder. If the processing is unsuccessful, the file is placed in an Unprocessed folder. The BusinessVault will re-name the file with a unique identifier after the file is placed in the Unprocessed orProcessed folder.

7 After the NounIDsInstance.XML is processed, refresh your Business Vault application in any ofthe Document drop downs to view the processed nouns. The custom BOD noun metadata is nowidentified by the Business Vault.See the file structure in "NounIDinstance XML file example" on page 30.

NounIDinstance XML file exampleIf the noun is not in the NounIDsInstance.XML file, you must make manual changes to the updatethe NounIDsInstance.XML file. This is an example of a NounIDsInstance.XML file. The XML filecontains entries for each noun in this format:

<Noun> <NounName>AccountingChart</NounName> <IDXpath>/*/AccountingChart[1]/IDs[1]/ID[not (@schemeName)]</IDXpath>

<IDAccountingEntityXPath>/*/AccountingChart[1]/IDs[1]/ID[not (@schemeName)]/@accountingEntity</IDAccountingEntityXPath> <IDLocationXPath>/*/AccountingChart[1]/IDs[1]/ID[not (@schemeName)]/@location</IDLocationXPath> ... ( more elements ) ...</Noun>

The minimum entry that must be created in the file to be displayed in the UI is:

<Noun> <NounName>CustomNounName</NounName> <IDXpath>a valid XPath</IDXpath></Noun>

When updating the NounIDsInstance.XML file:• Use the exact structure provided in the example for the XML.• Ensure that the IDXPath entered is a valid XPath.• Ensure that /*/ is entered with the IDXPath, for example: <IDXPath>/*/DataArea/Accounting

Chart/IDs[1]/ID[not(@schemeName)]</IDXPath>

• NounName and IDXpath are required in the XML file.

5Understanding replays

You can use the replay feature to replay a selection of BODs from the Raw Data Vault to a data store. This tool is useful to refresh a data store without retrieving data again from the source system.

When you run a replay, BODs are resent from the Raw Data Vault to the selected data store. If youreplay or send the same BODs more than once, the result is the same as the first time the BOD is sent.A delete is executed first, even if there is no BOD to delete. Then, an insert of the BOD is performed.

When you run a replay, a call is made to the Business Vault Runtime Service. A successful responseindicates that the replay was submitted successfully and is running. The status is reflected on theReplays Configuration page and the Replays Monitoring page. If the replay does not run because theBusiness Vault Runtime Service is down, you receive a message that the replay cannot be processedand try again later. A details button on the dialog box indicates the exact Java error message. Afterthe replay is run, the appropriate status is set.

These are replay statuses:• Inactive: Indicates the replay has been created and saved but not yet run. Only replays in an Inactive

status can be edited.• Running: Indicates that the replay is currently running. Running replays cannot be edited.• Running with Errors: Indicates that the replay is currently running but one or more errors have

occurred while processing. Replays that are running with errors cannot be edited.• Error: Indicates that the replay has encountered a problem starting and no BODs are processed.

The replayed failed to run. Reasons for an error could be generated when the network or server isdown. In this situation, you must contact your system administrator to check logs on the server formore advanced troubleshooting. Replays with a status of Error cannot be edited.

• Undetermined: Indicates a network or server is down so the replay failed. Replays in anUndetermined status cannot be edited.

• Complete: Indicates that the replay has successfully been replayed. This means that the replayhas re-sent BODs from the Raw Data Vault to the selected data store. Replays that are completecannot be edited.

• Complete with Errors: Indicates that the replay is complete but has one or more errors. You cannotedit replays that are complete with errors.

What databases are supported in the Business Vault?Currently, the Business Vault only supports Microsoft SQL Server database type. See the Infor IONBusiness Vault Installation Guide for more requirements information.

What is the Raw Data Vault? The Raw Data Vault contains all of the published BODs delivered to Business Vault from Infor ION.

What is a replay?A replay allows you to replay a selection of BODs from the Raw Data Vault to a data store. See "Replays"on page 17.

When you run a replay, are you overriding the BODs in the data store or deletingthe BODs and re-inserting?When you run a replay, you are replaying a selection of BODs from the Raw Data Vault to a data store. This means that the Business Vault treats a replay of a BOD like any other BOD. The Business Vaultalways performs a delete, even if there is nothing to delete. Then the Business Vault performs an insert

Infor ION Business Vault – Administration Guide | 45

Page 46: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

of the BOD. If you replay or send the same BODs over and over, the result is the same as the first timethe BOD is sent.

Is the Document Trace screen searching a data store or the Raw Data Vault? The Document Trace allows you to search all BODs in the Raw Data Vault as published by the sourcesystem.

The message 0 BODs Processed/Unprocessed is displayed on the Data Stores Monitorpage. How do I populate the Business Vault with BODs from the ERP?Each ERP has its own process for publishing BODs from that ERPs outbox to the Business Vault. Please contact a representative of the ERP for instructions on how to push BODs from the ERP.

BOD questionsThis section contains questions regarding the Business Vault Business Object Documents (BOD).

What BODs does the Business Vault support in Version 11.1?Any of the standard Infor BODs are supported. Only process and sync verbs are supported and onlysync verbs are extracted or shredded into data stores. Additionally, the Business Vault supports customBODs. For more information, see "Configuring Custom BODs in the Business Vault" on page 28.

A BOD received by the Business Vault can relate to data from another System ofRecord (SOR). The BOD may be received before the data is received. How is thishandled in the Business Vault? The data stores do not have foreign key constraints. The data will be consistent.

What happens if the Business Vault receives more than one version of a BOD?Current data store design includes Variation ID in the primary keys. Therefore all variations are stored.

The same BOD with the same data can be received more than once, one right afterthe other. How is this handled by the Business Vault? If the same BOD is received with the same Variation ID, the BOD data is overwritten for the data store.

Note: If no Variation ID is sent, the Business Vault assumes a value of 0. Therefore, only the mostrecently received BOD is stored.

Does Business Vault send the Show Verbs to a specific application instance? CanBusiness Vault handle Show Verbs routed to it?Show Verbs are supported. Only Sync/Show Verbs are shredded or extracted into data stores.

Database connection questionsThis section contains questions regarding database connections.

What is a database connection?A database connection definition contains database information and connection details. A databaseconnection is associated with data stores and BOD mappings. It is also the source of data to use whilebuilding dimensions, hierarchies, and cubes. The database connection is used in analytic modeling todefine source and target databases.

Who has access to the Database Connection menu option? In Infor ION Business Vault Version 11.1, only the BVDatabaseAdmin security role can configuredatabase connections. The BVDatabaseAdmin role has access to maintain database connections, addand select, export and import models for a source database connection, and add and maintain targetdatabase connections. For more information on configuring this role, see the Infor ION Business VaultInstallation Guide.

What is a source database connection?A source database connection identifies the source of data to use when you are building hierarchies, dimensions, and cubes. Source database connections are also used for data stores and BOD mappings.

What is a target database connection?A target database connection identifies the database into which dimension and cube definitions anddata are published.

Frequently asked questions

Page 48: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

Why are database connections associated with models? In the Database Connections page, you can setup and use models for a source database. Models arecontainers with user-friendly aliases for properties, entities, table relationships or joins, custom properties, custom entities and preconfigured dimension configurations. The objects in a model, like the aliasesand relationships, make it easier for you to define hierarchies, dimensions, and cubes by providingmetadata. Models are optional and make it easier to build analytic modeling definitions.

Models are associated with source database connections. When you setup a model, you can add newmodels, and import/export models. Models do not have any security. For example, if the model referencesa salary table, you can use modeling functions to preview the data in the table.

Data store questionsThis section contains questions regarding the Business Vault data stores.

What is a data store?A data store is the relational database into which BOD data is extracted. See "Data Stores and BODmappings" on page 16.

What happens when a Data Store is activated? After a data store is activated, any BODs received by the Business Vault are routed to and processedby the BOD mapping and populated into the data store.

Why is my Data Store activation failing?Failure to activate a data store may be caused by a BOD mapping validation error such as invalidcolumn or table name in the BOD mapping. Additionally, ensure you have a valid database connection.

How do I setup a database connection to use for my data store?Database Connections are setup on the Database Connections page. See "Configuring databaseconnections" on page 21.

What is an Infor data store? An Infor data store contains Infor-Locked content via BOD mappings. This provides protection againstinadvertently changing Infor content.

Note: You can customize Infor-Locked Content by modifying user areas and classification codes fordata stores and BOD mappings.

Frequently asked questions

Page 49: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

BOD Mapping questionsThis section contains questions regarding the Business Vault BOD Mappings.

What is a BOD mapping?A BOD mapping provides the instructions to parse information from a BOD in a data store.

How do I create a BOD mapping?BOD mappings are either created through on the Data Stores page or by importing a collection ofMicrosoft Excel spreadsheets in a single .ZIP file.

In the Business Vault Version 10.2, a collection of Excel spreadsheets were placedin a .ZIP file to map BOD elements to data store tables and columns. Are these Excelspreadsheets still supported? There is an import function in the Business Vault Version 11.1, that you can use to import a collectionof Excel spreadsheets in a .ZIP file. You can import the Business Vault 10.2 BOD mapping definitionsand then export the definitions in the new Business Vault Version 11.0 format.

Are BOD mappings ERP or application specific? No.

When the Business Vault receives BODs from ION and stores them in the BusinessVault, is a BOD mapping automatically created for that BOD that was received inthe Raw Data Vault Inbox? No. After a BOD is received by the Business Vault's Raw Data Vault, you must create a BOD mappingfor that BOD.

Where can I find more information on how to configure a BOD mapping?See the Infor ION Business Vault BOD Mapping User Guide.

What is the difference between a BOD mapping and a Table / Column mapping?A BOD mapping maps BOD elements to data store tables and columns. A table mapping allows youto specify a database table that receives the mapped data. Table mappings are added, after the requiredBOD mapping information is complete. A column mapping allows you to specify all of the columninformation. A column mapping is added after all of the required table mapping information is complete.

What does the BOD mapping generator wizard do?The generator automatically creates BOD mappings along with tables and column mappings fromBOD/XML documents. The generator results in a mapping that you can review for modifications andactivate.

Frequently asked questions

Page 50: Infor ION Business Vault Administration Guide...• Raw Data Vault You can use the Business Vault to store BOD messages in the RDV. The RDV contains all variations of the BOD messages

I've created a BOD mapping on the Business Vault User Interface (UI). How do Icreate my database tables and columns in the database? You can generate a database script through the Data Stores page. You can run the script in MicrosoftSQL Server to create all of the database tables and columns for the Business Vault database. This isthe target database for your BOD mapping. The database script adds tables and columns to yourBusiness Vault database but does not execute any database changes.

I am trying to generate a database script on the Data Stores/BOD Mapping UI, butthe script is blank. The database script is blank if you have already generated a database script, ran the script in MicrosoftSQL Server, and created the tables and columns. If you try to generate the database script a secondtime, the script is blank because the tables and columns already exist in the target database. A newscript is only created if new tables and or columns are added.

If data has already been shredded into a database table and then the BOD mappingis updated, what do I have to do?If you've already extracted or shredded data into a database table and then the BOD mapping isupdated, you must:1 Ensure that the tables and columns exist in your target database. They can either be created manually

or generate a Microsoft SQL Server script.2 Make sure that you re-activate the data store. When you activate a data store, the system validates

that the BOD mapping has the same database tables and columns on the user interface as in thetarget database. If this is not the case, an error is displayed when activating your data store.

I activated a BOD mapping, but nothing is extracted or shredded into the data store. After you activate a BOD mapping, you must activate the data store. The activation / deactivation ofBOD mappings is separate from data store activation. After you activate the data store, any BODsreceived by the Business Vault from that point on will be routed to and processed by the BOD mappingand populated in the data store.

I created data store tables and columns in the target database, activated the datastore, and activated the BOD mapping, but I don't see any values in the databasetables? In order to see values in the database tables, you must ensure that you have BODs flowing into thatdata store. If the BOD is stored in the Raw Data Vault, you can run a replay, which will replay a selectionof BODs from the Raw Data Vault to your data store.

What are custom mapping keywords?Specialized BOD mappings can be configured with custom mapping keywords. Custom Mappings usekeywords to provide specific mapping results to be populated in the database table. Certain CustomMapping keywords require a valid XPath, while others do not require an XPath. Certain Custom Mappingkeywords require variable parameters, in addition to the keyword. For more information on CustomMapping keywords, see the Infor ION Business Vault BOD Mapping User Guide.
