THE LORD’S DAY WORSHIP
THE SEVENTEENTH DAY OF AUGUST, TWO THOUSAND AND FOURTEEN
Eight-Thirty and Eleven O’clock
THE PRELUDE
“Morning Has Broken” arr. Shackley
Jennifer Velázquez, Pianist
THE CALL TO WORSHIP Ezekiel 34:11-16
The Minister: “For thus says the Lord God: ‘Behold, I, I Myself will search for My sheep
and will seek them out. As a shepherd seeks out his fl ock when he is among
his sheep that have been scattered, so will I seek out My sheep, and I will rescue
them from all places where they have been scattered on a day of clouds and
thick darkness.
The Congregation: And I will bring them out from the peoples and gather them from the countries,
and will bring them into their own land. And I will feed them on the mountains
of Israel, by the ravines, and in all the inhabited places of the country.
The Minister: I will feed them with good pasture, and on the mountain heights of Israel shall
be their grazing land. There they shall lie down in good grazing land, and on
rich pasture they shall feed on the mountains of Israel. I Myself will be the
shepherd of My sheep, and I Myself will make them lie down,’ declares the Lord
God.
The Minister and
Congregation: ‘I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and will bind up the
injured, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will destroy.
I will feed them in justice.’”

THE ENSEMBLE
“Rescue the Perishing” arr. Powell James Brown and Randal Rushing, Tenors
Tom Horner and Philip Johnson, Basses
Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying, Snatch them in pity from sin and the grave;
Weep o’er the erring one, Lift up the fallen, Tell them of Jesus the mighty to save.
Tho’ they are slighting Him, Still He is waiting, Waiting the penitent child to receive;
Pray for them earnestly, Plead with them gently, He will forgive if they only believe.
Rescue the perishing, Care for the dying;
Jesus is merciful, Jesus will save.
Down in the human heart, Crush’d by the tempter, Feelings lie buried that grace can restore;
Touch’d by a loving heart, Wake’d by the Spirit, Chords that are broken will vibrate once more.
Rescue the perishing, Christ’s Love compels it; Strength for thy labor the Lord will provide;
Back to the narrow way Patiently lead them; Tell the poor sinner, “A Savior has died!”

THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER
Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on
earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive
our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and
the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
THE GLORIA PATRI Ode to JoyGod of glory, power, mercy, all creation praises Thee;
we, Thy creatures, would adore Thee now and through eternity.Saved to magnify Thy goodness, grant us strength to do Thy will;
with our acts as with our voices Thy commandments to fulfi ll. Amen.

THE CONFESSION OF SIN
Forgive us the sins of disunity, O Lord: pride and jealousy and narrow-mindedness. Forgive us the
sins of false unity: lack of imagination, apathy, and indifference. Make us one in genuine love and
mutual trust. Make us many in gifts and talents and vision. Amen. — The Worship Sourcebook

THE HYMN OF ASPIRATION
“We Are God’s People”
THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON
“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you
may proclaim the excellencies of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. Once
you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you
have received mercy.” — 1 Peter 2:9-10

“IPC Is the Living Body of Christ”The Reverend Richie Sessions
Senior Pastor

THE DOXOLOGY Nun DanketAll praise and thanks to God the Father now be given,
the Son, and Him who reigns with them in highest heaven – the one eternal God, whom earth and heav’n adore; for thus it was, is now, and shall be evermore. Amen.
THE OFFERTORY
“Awake, My Heart” Marshall
Harrison Howle, Director
Awake, my heart, and render To God thy sure defender,
Thy Maker, thy preserver, A song of love and fervor.
Confi rm my deeds and guide me: My day, with Thee beside me,
Beginning, middle, ending, Will all be upward tending.
My heart shall be Thy dwelling, With joy and gladness swelling;
Thy word my nurture, giv’n To bring me on toward heaven.
“15 He is the image of the invisible God, the fi rstborn of all creation. 16 For by Him all things were
created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or
authorities — all things were created through Him and for Him. 17 And He is before all things, and in
Him all things hold together. 18 And He is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the
fi rstborn from the dead, that in everything He might be preeminent. 19 For in Him all the fullness of
God was pleased to dwell, 20 and through Him to reconcile to Himself all things, whether on earth or
in heaven, making peace by the blood of His cross.”
THE STATEMENT OF FAITH The Apostles’ Creed
I believe in God the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son, our
Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucifi ed, dead and buried; He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead; He
ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence He shall
come to judge the quick and the dead; I believe in the Holy Ghost; the holy catholic church; the com-
munion of saints; the forgiveness of sins; the resurrection of the body; and the life everlasting. Amen.
