Formal Vs Informal
• In formal a members is segregated from work settings and characterized
in some way his new comer’s role. Specific orientation and training
programme.
• Informal put new entry directly into job with little or not attention

Individual vs. Collective
•Individually socialized. In group socialization and given identical set of experience; Marin Boot Camp.

Fixed vs. Variable• Fixed refers to time schedule in which new comer make the transition from outsider to insider. This includes rotational training programs, probationary periods, and associate status.
• Variable schedule describe typical promotion system, where one is not advanced to the next stage till he is “ready”.

Serial vs. Random
• Serial includes use of role model who train and encourage new comers. Apprenticeship and Mentoring Programmes.
• Random, role models are deliberately withheld. Individual is left at his own to figure things out.

Investiture vs. Divestiture
• Investiture assumes that individual qualities and qualifications are necessary ingredients for job success; so these are confirmed and supported.
• Divestiture tries to strip away certain characteristics. Fraternity and Sorority “pledges” go through divestiture to shape them into the proper role.
