Bubble Letters Drawing Art Lesson 1

Begin your bubble letters by choosing the the word you want to write. Draw a guide lines for the top and bottom of your letters and then space them out with rounded

blocks.


Using the rounded letter blocks as a starting point draw in fat rounded letters. The rounder, the bubblier, but be sure to give the letters enough form so you can read them.

I have added a center guide to help line up the middle of the letters. It looks good to have the letters slightly overlap.


Refine your drawing and darken the outline of your letters.


Erase your guide lines and clean up your letters.


Proper shading makes your bubble letters appear more rounded. Imagine a light source so you can decide where the shading should be the darkest. I have drawn alight bulb and

some arrows to show you where my imaginary light source is. You can draw the light bulb on your paper if it helps you, but it is not required.

Shade in layers, first lightly and then go back and darken your shading.

I have added a small circle on the upper left of each letter to indicate a highlight.

Drawing Tutorial Step 1:The foundation for your 3D lettering masterpiece is simply writing out your word or

words on the paper and getting them to fit the space well first. Your letters should be evenly spaced out and not crowding each other too much.

Drawing Tutorial Step 2:Now, expand your line letters into block style letters. It may help to draw a guide line across the top and bottom of the letters to keep you an track. In my case I built the

block letters centered around the line letter like on the "t" if possible. For other letters such as the "L" and the "E," I built the block letter off to the right of the line

letter. Just work your way through the letters doing your best to even out the spacing.

Drawing Tutorial Step 3:Outline your block letters with a marker or a dark pencil. Once you have outlined and refined your letters' edges, you can erase the sketch lines you made to build

the 3d block letter shapes.

Drawing Tutorial Step 4:It's time to enter the 3rd Dimension! Draw short diagonal lines from the corners of all your letters. These lines will form the edge of the your 3d letters thickness or depth.

The lines should all be of the same length. When you are faced with a rounded letter, do your best to draw an angled line from the part of the curve where the edge

changes direction from up-down to right-left.

Drawing Tutorial Step 5:Connect the diagonal lines doing your best to match the contour of the block letters.

Also, try to keep the distance from the block letters consistent.

Drawing Tutorial Step 6:Here is where we really make the letters pop! Add shading to the edge of of your 3D

letters. This gives the impression of shade or shadow and depth.

I have added some hatch marks to the face of the letters to indicate a little bit of texture or reflection.That part is totally optional.

The first step is to choose your word and space out your letters. I have chosen to demonstrate using the word "block." Below is a sample set of block letters you

can use to make your name or any word you choose.

Using your ruler, draw guide lines for the top and bottom of your letters. Next, lightly draw vertical lines for the placement of each letter.

The vertical and horizontal strokes of these block letters have a uniform thickness, so mark guide lines for the thickness of your letters.


Using the thickness guide lines you created, draw in the shape of your letters. Look at the sample letter chart often to draw your letters as accurately as possible.


Erase your guides and clean up your block letters.


Choose a point centered below your letters. Mark this point. Then carefully draw a line from each corner of your block letters down towards this point. If you run into

another letter or part of a letter, stop your line. This one-point perspective technique will make your 3d letters come to life.


Next chose a place to cut off your letters 3d perspective and erase the perspective lines below that line. draw lines at this cut of edge to match letter edges forming the

back part of or each extruded letter.


Shade the bottom parts of the 3d letter extrusions.


Shade the angled and side parts of the extrusion, but not as dark as the bottom parts.


Add a bevel to your letters by drawing a line inside your letters and connecting the corners. then shade the bevel to one side.

Begin your graffiti name drawing by sketching your name expressively on piece of paper. Draw lightly as you may want to adjust some of the letters. With my name, Michael, I tried to add some symmetry to the design by adding an extension which

hooks off the letter “M” and mirrors th way the letter “L” is shaped.Write Your Name in Graffiti Letters 2:

Using your sketch as a guide, draw 2D letters around your sketchy letters. Look for interesting ways to connect letters to each other. For instance notice how the “M” connects to the “H” and also how the “C” connect to the “H” as well. The “H” and “A” also connect to the “E”. This may take you several attempts. If you decide you

are not happy with the way your design is going, set it aside and try another variation. Keep each attempt and borrow ideas from them. Graffiti artists often trace

of copy parts of design sketched that fit well together. Write Your Name in Graffiti Letters 3:

Add arrows and splits to your designs. Splits look like pieces that may have broken off your letters. Arrows, well you probably know what an arrow looks like. Where you add the arrows depends a lot on the letters you are using. You really can’t do this this wrong. you are the designer so experiment with what looks and feels right

in your design.

Add a shaded edge to your letters. This is accomplished by copying the right edge of your of your letters slightly offset from the original letter. Use short lines to

connect this new letter edge to the original letters. The lesson How to Draw 3D letters shows this clearly with some letters that are more simple that this

name. Check it out if you are not sure about how to do this step. I have colored the edge orange to help it to stand out and be seen clearly. Take your time, because

Before completing your letters it is a good idea to decide if you are gong to have a background for your design. backgrounds can take the shape of clouds, brick,

blocks, bubbles or blobs. I find that deciding on my background helps me to think of the design as a whole piece of art. One could finish the letters first. It is a matter of

Fill your background with a color if you feel ready too. You can put this step off till later if you prefer

Thicken the outside border of your letters and add horizontal shading lines to your edge. Lines drawing close together have the effect of darkening an area. Usually

this is done more in areas that may be shadowed if the letters were actually dimensional. Additional lines near the centers of the edges mimic possible

reflections that a shiny dimensional letter might pick up.

Drawing Tutorial Part 1:Begin by blocking out your letters. For these 2D graffiti letters, make them all upper-

case and let the letters overlap slightly.

Drawing Tutorial Part 2:Outline your letters with a black marker.

Drawing Tutorial Part 3:draw splits and cracks diagonally across your graffiti letters. Add a rectangular

fractured piece to some of the letters like the "T" and the "N".

Drawing Tutorial Part 4:Outline your letter group with a heavy border.

Drawing Tutorial Part 5:Color in the outlined area with yellow.

Drawing Tutorial Part 6:Color the letters with a light blue base.

Drawing Tutorial Part 7:Overlay with purple, teal and green marker, then come in with red slash marks.

Drawing Tutorial Part 8:Add jazzy marks and squiggles around your graffiti name to give it a high-energy

background.
