$ Clearly, Americans have bought into a culture where we have to have “stuff.”

The problem is that we often misuse money to get “stuff.”

Federal Reserve (June 7, 2002) Consumer credit card debt stands at $1.6 trillion.

Consumer debt including mortgages stands at $7 trillion; that’s double what it was in 1990.

Twenty-three percent of the average take-home pay is already committed to paying on debt.

Fifty-six percent of all divorces are a result of money problems.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN PRACTICALLY?

Page 27: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ We need to be thankful for what we have.

DO WE OFFER THANKS FOR WHAT GOD HAS GIVEN US?

Page 33: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

$ God, as the author of this play, doesn’t feel any obligation to work everything out in the first act.$ Only when we grasp that life is not about money & things

can we truly understand what Scripture says about money!$ The Bible teaches that the things of this world are not nearly

as important as the things of the next world.

$ “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Mt 6:19-21, ESV).

Page 44: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ Mt 6:19-21.$ “Fear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good

pleasure to give you the kingdom. Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys” (Lk 12:32-33, ESV).

Page 71: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ Money is not neutral; it is a force.

$ If we allow it, money will become THE driving force in our lives.$ “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the

God and Money

NUMBER FOUR: MONEY CANNOT BUY HAPPINESS.

Page 78: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ We have probably believed the lie that money brings happiness more than any other lie about money.

Page 79: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ We have probably believed the lie that money brings happiness more than any other lie about money.$ Jesus tells us otherwise: “Take care, and be on your guard

against all covetousness, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions” (Lk 12:15, ESV).

$ But, so many have ignored Jesus’ words & tried to find happiness in money.

Page 81: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

• “I think everybody should get rich and famous and do everything they ever dreamed of so they can see that it’s not the answer.”

$ Solomon: “Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I kept my heart from no pleasure, for my heart found pleasure in all my toil, and this was my reward for all my toil. Then I considered all that my hands had done and the toil I had expended in doing it, and behold, all was vanity and a striving after wind, and there was nothing to be gained under the sun” (Eccl 2:10-11, ESV).

Page 84: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

$ Solomon.$ The rich fool in Luke 12 also tried.

Page 85: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ Solomon.$ The rich fool in Luke 12 also tried.

$ When he saw the abundance of his crops, he said, “I will tear down my barns and build larger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, you have ample goods laid up for many years; relax, eat, drink be merry” (Lk 12:18-19, ESV).

$ He had happiness! BUT GOD SAYS, “‘Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?’” (Lk 12:20, ESV).

Page 88: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ “Money will buy a bed but not sleep; books but not brains; food but not appetite; finery but not beauty; a house but not a home; medicine but not health; luxuries but not culture; amusements but not happiness; religion but not salvation; a passport to everywhere but heaven.”

Page 90: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ Contentment is a spiritual issue.

Page 91: God and Money What God Wants You to Know About Money

God and Money

$ Contentment is a spiritual issue.$ “I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound.
