• Laser engraving is the practice of using lasers to engrave or mark an object.

• The technique can be very technical and complex, and often a computer system is used to drive the movements of the laser head.

LASER ENGRAVING…

What's the difference between 2D, 2½D & 3D laser image etching? 

We are often asked the difference between 2D and 3D laser etched images. 

The simple explanation is: 2D means height and width, 3D is height, width and depth. 

We also offer a technology called 2½D laser engraving, which is explained below.

The 2½D process turns an ordinary photograph into a work of art. 

The detail and image quality are unmatched and we are the only Asian company offering this. 

Normally a 3D image requires a specialized 3D scanner. 

We now offer 3D heads converted from traditional portrait photographs.

2D Image Etching/Engraving

To do a 2D face or other 2D image all we need is a digital image (see acceptable formats listed below) from a digital camera or a traditional photograph scan using a common image scanner.  We can etch almost any 2D image inside a crystal. The file formats we accept are: JPG, TIF, and BMP.  We can do multiple people, full body shots, buildings, picture of your home, pets or almost anything.  As you will see below, the side view of a 2D etch is not very deep. The frontal view is highly detailed.

2 ½D Images with up to 10 Layers• Our 2½D image process is a tremendous improvement over the

traditional 2D process.  We are one of the few company's in the world that offers 2½D etching.  A standard 2D process typically has 3 layers.  Our 2½D process utilizes special computer routines to make a traditional photo have up to 8 layers and the image appears to have a 3D effect.  The 2½D process also only needs a scan of a standard photograph or a image from a digital camera.  In our 2½D engraving process, dark colors in a photo have fewer layers, lighter colors have more layers.  The result is greater detail and an etched image that defies description and is unmatched by many other suppliers.

3D Image Etching / Engraving• The 3D etched image can be viewed from all sides. The 3D images

in our 3D Images in our Image Library are modeled using 3D imaging software.  At our retail and reseller location we use a special 3D scanners for 3D Heads.  We can convert a traditional high quality photo portrait into a 3D head image.  The 3D scanner takes an image of the front and sides of a person's head.  When looking from the back of the crystal, you will see a reverse of the front of the face. It almost like the eye follow you as you move around the room!
