Definition:System Smart Inserts (SSI’s) are used to “mux” or route connector data lines as necessary to facilitate OEM enhanced communication and can sometimes contain electronics. SSI’s provided access to this OEM enhanced information in place of additional cables.

Automated System Test™ is the default selection in Diagnostic Menu. One button press and it will perform the test and report the data in a fraction of the time it used to take using manual, step by step procedures.

Automated System Test™ begins to automatically poll all available controllers for DTC’s

and other vital scan data.

A System Analysis Test Report summarizes the findings. The primary controller is that

selected by the technician. The secondary controllers are all others found with a report

on their DTC status.

InfoTech™, and Fast Fixes™ troubleshooters for

you, saving time and increasing profitability.

The System Analysis Test Report can be saved for later transfer to a PC for

storage or printing.

Selecting the Detail screen provides specifics on the primary and secondary controllers. Pressing Enter on any DTC provides the technician with all available code and diagnostic strategy information for that specific vehicle.

4Start the engine (KOER), and allow to warm to normal operating temperature. Once the engine is at normal operating temperature, go on to the next step.

5Using the scan tool, access and review the active DTCs. If the active DTCs indicate a concern with the heater portion of the oxygen sensor, go to step 9, otherwise go to the next

Fuel calculations can be affected by unmetered air leaks. Carefully inspect the following areas for potential air leaks. A-Hoses connecting to the mass air flow (MAF) sensor. B-Hoses connecting to the throttle body. C-Intake manifold gasket leaks. D-Leaks in the positive crankcase ventilation (PCV) system. E-Disconnected vacuum lines. F-Improperly seated engine oil dipstick, tube or oil fill cap. G-Exhaust leaks at flanges and gaskets. If a concern is found, repair that concern and retest the system. Otherwise, go on to the next step.

Note: Upstream oxygen sensors should switch from rich to lean every few seconds. The voltage should toggle above and below 0.450 DC volts and never be a negative value. Using the scan tool, access the live data readings related to the heated oxygen sensors (HO2S) bank 1 sensor 1and bank 2 sensor 1. Is the DC voltage toggling between 0.4 and 0.6 volts? If the voltage is within the specified range, go on to the next step, otherwise go to step 10.

Note: Downstream oxygen sensors will stay close to a constant positive value near 0.450 DC volts when the catalyst monitor is OFF. When the catalyst monitor is ON, the downstream oxygen sensors will switch rich to lean above and below 0.450 DC volts and never be a negative value. Using the scan tool, access the live data readings related to the bank 1 sensor 2 and bank 2 sensor 2. Is the DC voltage remaining constant near 0.450 DC volts or toggling between 0.4 and 0.6 volts? If the voltage is within the specified range, it appears the HO2S system is operating correctly at this time. If the voltages are not within the specified
