Dear Families and Friends Well, the misty morning drizzle certainly didn’t deter our small but enthusiastic group of volunteers at our term three working bee on Saturday. This group included students Matilda who swept pathways and Jack and Luca who helped dad replace old rotten sleepers in our vegie garden. Whilst Paula and Josie were busy weeding, Jax was doing a mighty job blower vaccing all the pathways clear of mulch and leaves. Lots of jobs were completed including installing our new flags in the circle of harmony. Many thanks to Sam, Paula, Jack, Luca, Jax, Matilda and Josie for your generosity and perseverance in spite of the weather! Grade 5/6 Camp It was fantastic seeing lots of happy and excited faces at the grade 5/6 camp last week. For the very first time, our 5/6s ventured to Alexandra Adventure Resort, nestled in amongst the vast, bald, sweeping hills, not too far from the mighty Goulburn River. Our kids had a great time exploring all that the camp had to offer including fishing in the beautiful lake and lots of adventure activities like the giant swing, raft building, archery and the high ropes course (which funnily enough, I found quite high!). Of course camps are a vital part of our learning program with increased social skills, independence and responsibility being just a few examples of intended learning outcomes. It was fantastic to see the way our students looked after each other, supported each other and engaged in great conversations. Thank you to Mr. Fraser, Miss Hutcheson, Mrs. Alsop, Lisa Rogers, student teacher Jess Banks and dad Peter Mudge who attended camp. Thank you also to Shelley, Carol and Nat in the office who organised and facilitated camp payments. Staff had already put in a large amount of time and effort preparing and organising this experience for our kids and it is always a large undertaking for staff who attend camps. Staying away from home and family for several nights is often difficult, and your commitment is very much acknowledged and appreciated. Well done EVERYONE on a brilliant camp!

Planning Week This week teachers across all learning centres have participated in a planning day in order to prepare teaching and learning activities for the final term of the year. It is shaping up to be another busy term at Gembrook and already teachers have planned some excellent learning experiences for their students. EDEC Girls Footy Our grade 5/6 girls put in a meritorious effort, and had lots of fun in the process at yesterday’s EDEC Footy Day at Gembrook Senior Oval. It’s fair to say that as the weather got worse, our girls went in even harder, resulting in a very well deserved grand final appearance! Congratulations to our gun girl footy stars! Thank you to Mr. Hawes, Miss. Hutcheson and Lisa Rogers for attending with our girls and for braving the inclement conditions!

SUN SMART ‘HATS ON’ FROM SEPTEMBER 3RD

Although this winter is still a bit up and down with some nice hints of spring to come, the UV levels are on the rise. Sun protection is recommend-ed whenever UV levels are three or higher. Average UV levels in Victoria are three or higher from mid-August so it’s time to dust off the sun protection gear. The Anti-Cancer Council recommends we start using sun protection and so we are reminding students and families to bring hats to school with children having to play in shaded

areas if they have not hat from Monday September 3rd.

Hats available for purchase on Qkr or at the School

KMotion is coming to Gembrook! We are very proud to announce the trial of a new after school program initiative called KMOTION. KMOTION is FREE and open to all students from Prep to Grade 6. KMOTION will include games, craft, stories and afternoon tea. Each session is run by a HCSI staff member and a team of trained volunteers. KMOTION has behaviour guidelines and expectations to ensure all children have a safe and enjoyable time. The Term 4 trial dates are: Wednesday 25th October Wednesday 1st November Wednesday 8th November Wednesday 15th November Each session will commence at 3:30pm and finish at 5:00pm whereupon our normal OSHC program will continue until 6:00pm (students who are booked in for our normal OSHC program on KMOTION evenings will have the opportunity to join in the fun from 3:30pm – 5:00pm). Registration and afternoon tea will take place in the kitchen area of the Middle Learning Centre and the Multi-Purpose Room will be utilised for KMOTION activities. KMotion registration forms will be available soon. Year 3 and 4s Music: Thriller Costume 1: zombies, old clothes, can be torn, dirty with talc powder/dirt/etc/ . If you don't want to rip and tear anything, can wear plain neutral tones-black, white, dark greens etc. Music:Jump Costume 2: 90's Baggy, street, hiphop, hats, sweat bands, bball shorts, trackies, over sized tshirts, sunnies, etc. Bright colours mixed

Grade 4/5A Music: Everybody dance now and Chameleon Costume: Street/hiphop clothes, Colour matching - Theme colour- BLUE with accessories suchas caps/hats or bandanas

Year 5/6s Dance: Evolution of dance Dance: Desposito Costume: street /hiphop clothes Colour theme - Red. Can accessorise with red and use black and white as a base. If you have red tops / bottoms that’s also fine.
