GAME 7 - THUNDERWOLVES WIN HOMECOMING GAME

2014 football game notes

The Oxbridge Academy football team celebrated Homecoming weekend with a 44-6 win over visiting North Broward Prep. The team is now 6-1 on the season and 5-0 in the Gold Coast Football Conference. The ThunderWolves offense averaged 8.6 yards per play in the game for almost 400 yards of total offense. !The offense wasted little time as Travis Homer scored from 16 yards out on the game’s fourth play to give Oxbridge a 6-0 lead. !Following a C.J. Smith interception, Angelo Navaroli connected with Tre Gabriel for a 22-yard touchdown. Noah Singer added the extra point to give the ThunderWolves a 13-0 lead. !Smith, a freshman defensive back, had two interceptions in the game. !The Eagles responded as quarterback L.J. Smith found wide receiver C.J. Riley for a 79 touchdown to cut the Oxbridge lead to 13-6. !The ThunderWolves added to their lead as the offense marched down the field on a 12-play, 76-yard drive that was capped off by Homer’s second touchdown of the night. !After the team’s traded turnovers, Oxbridge pieced together a six-play, 58-yard drive as Antuan Burgess scored from 12 yards out to give the ThunderWolves a 27-6 lead. !Late in the first half, North Broward Prep failed to convert on a 4th and 8 from the Oxbridge 24 yard line. The ThunderWolves capitalized as Navaroli hit Homer on a screen that resulted in a 76 yard Oxbridge touchdown. !For the game Navaroli completed 11 of 18 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns. The sophomore quarterback went over 2,000 career passing yards. !The ThunderWolves built a 35-point lead in the third quarter as Tyree Smith turned a fourth and one into a 35 touchdown run. !With 8:07 left in the game, Noah Singer connected on a school record 45-yard field goal to set the final score at 44-6.

• North Broward Prep and Pembroke Pines are vying for the 4th spot in the GCFC standings. The two teams face off against each other in Week 10 as Pembroke Pines travels to North Broward Prep. !

• In the month of October, the ThunderWolves have outscored their opponents 182-13. !

• In Friday night’s win over North Broward Prep, junior kicker Noah Singer kicked a school-record 45 yard field goal. !

• Oxbridge has not been forced to punt since the second quarter at Archbishop McCarthy. That is a span of 18 quarters. !

• Sophomore quarterback, Angelo Navaroli threw for 180 yards in the win over the Eagles giving him 2,067 career passing yards. !

TRE GABRIEL - FOOTBALL !This week's student athlete was selected from the Football team. Coach Socha wanted to recognize Tre Gabriel as athlete of the week. He said, "Tre is an excellent leader in the classroom, weight room, and on the field. He is a threat to score every time he touches the ball as a receiver and a returner. He has overcome his short stature with a work ethic in the weight room and on the field as well. Without Tre's desire and passion to have football in his life, we would not have a program at Oxbridge."

The girls' varsity volleyball season came to an end in the District 14 Semi-Finals as the ThunderWolves fell to Coral Springs Christian, 3-1 (18-25, 13-25, 25-20, 16-25). Top Performers were Riley Nieporte with 19 digs and Myah Gerry with 25 assists and 7 aces. The girls end their season with an 11-9 overall record. !On Monday night the girls' volleyball team defeated Highlands Christian in the 1st round of the District 14 Playoffs. The ThunderWolves rallied to win the first set 25-21 and then cruised to wins in the second and third sets, 25-17 and 25-13 respectively. A pair of freshman led the way for Oxbridge as Addy Aitken had 14 kills and Riley Nieporte had 14 kills and 12 digs. This was the first district win in school history for the girls volleyball team.

GOLF TEAMS - GIRLS TEAM FINISHES 4TH AT REGIONALS The girls’ golf team had their season come to an end after a fourth place finish at Regionals held at Delaire Country Club. Paige Lee Garris led the way for the ThunderWolves by shooting a round of 76. She missed out on a trip to the State Series by losing in a sudden death playoff on the second hole.

SAILING TEAM - TO PARTICIPATE IN THE SOUTH POINTS 2 EVENT This weekend the sailing team will be competing in the South Points 2-Martin County Event. GIRLS SOCCER - SETTLES TO A DRAW IN PRE-SEASON ACTIONThe girls’ varsity soccer team settled to a 2-2 tie in their first pre-season tournament game at Boca High against Douglas High School. Camryn Socha and Cayla Creighton both had one goal. Lorena Cedeno lead the team with 4 shots on goal and one assist. Emily Winkler had 2 shots on goal and 1 assist. Ryenne Dietrick in the goal with 20 saves. !The ThunderWolves are back in action Thursday night at 8pm at Boca High.
