Kansas City has faced San Francisco just 10 times in regular season play, with the 49ers holding a 6-4 advantage in the all-time series. The home team has won the last six contests in this series. Kansas City holds a 3-2 advantage over San Francisco at home and has claimed victories in the last three outings between these two squads at Arrowhead, including a 41-0 shutout victory in San Francisco’s most recent trip to Kansas City (10/1/06). Before Kansas City’s 41-0 win in 2006, the 49ers took back-to-back victories over the Chiefs, both of which came at 3Com Park. KC’s only regular season win at SF came by a 26-17 score (12/6/71) at Candlestick Park.
San Francisco’s last three visits to Kansas City have resulted in memorable victories for the Chiefs. In a much-ballyhooed ’94 match-up between Hall of Fame QBs Joe Montana and Steve Young, Kansas City’s defense stole the show before 79,907 fans, the second-largest in-stadium crowd in Arrowhead history. The 49ers held a 14-7 lead in the second quarter before a LB Derrick Thomas sack of Young for a safety swung the game’s momentum. Thomas would record 3.0 of Kansas City’s 4.0 sacks on the day, Montana would throw two TDs, while 2003 Hall of Fame enshrinee RB Marcus Allen rushed for 114 yards as KC outscored SF 15-3 in the second half to record a 24-17 win (9/11/94). The Chiefs also claimed a 44-9 win at Arrowhead (11/30/97), snapping an 11-game 49ers winning streak. QB Rich Gannon threw three TDs, KC’s defense registered 5.0 sacks and TE Tony Gonzalez blocked a punt in a game that featured a pair of squads that would fi nish the season with identical 13-3 records. In the last meeting between the two club’s at Arrowhead, the Kansas City defense recorded a shutout as the Chiefs forced four turnovers and recorded 4.0 sacks. QB Damon Huard completed 18 of 23 passes for 208 yards with two TDs in his initial start at Arrowhead, stepping in for an injured QB Trent Green. WR Dante Hall recorded a 60-yard punt return for a TD, his 11th career return score, to go along with a 13-yard TD reception. San Francisco’s most recent victory was a 26-13 decision at Arrowhead (12/26/82). The 49ers also claimed a 20-3 win in Kansas City (10/5/75).
The Chiefs are seeking to register their fi rst 3-0 start since 2003 when they host San Francisco at the New Arrowhead on Sunday (9/26). Kansas City is coming off a 16-14 victory at Cleveland (9/19). Dating back to the 2009 regular season fi nale, the Chiefs have now won three straight under Head Coach Todd Haley. The Chiefs have outscored their opponents by an 81-to-52 margin over that three-game winning streak, good for an average score of 27.0 to 17.3. The Chiefs are one of eight 2-0 teams and one of just three 2-0 squads that have rebounded from an 0-2 start in 2009, joining Miami and Tampa Bay as the only other teams to accomplish that feat. San Francisco is coming off a last-second 25-22 loss on Monday Night Football vs. New Orleans (9/20). The 49ers are making their fi rst appearance in Kansas City since suffering a 41-0 loss at Arrowhead (10/1/06). San Francisco hasn’t won in KC since ’82, the 49ers longest active road victory drought against any club they have defeated at least once on the road. San Francisco has yet to win a road contest against the Ravens, Texans or Jaguars. Offensively, KC ranks fi fth in the NFL, averaging 137.5 rushing ypg and is 10th in the league with a 4.2 yards-per-carry average. Meanwhile, the Chiefs defense is tied for ninth in the league, permitting 91.5 rushing ypg. The Chiefs are tied for eighth in scoring defense, allowing just 14.0 ppg. KC is one of just six clubs that have allowed 14 points or less in both of their games in 2010, joining Miami, Minnesota, the N.Y. Jets, Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay as the only other clubs to accomplish that feat. Kansas City has permitted seven second-half points in 2010 and is one of four clubs that hasn’t allowed a score in the fourth quarter. The Chiefs have allowed opponents to convert just 28.6% (8 of 28) of their third-down opportunities, a fi gure that is tied for sixth in the NFL. The Chiefs have produced four return TDs during Kansas City’s three-game victory string under Haley, including a 33-yard INT return by CB Brandon Flowers at Cleveland (9/19). KC is the only NFL team that owns a return TD in both of its games in 2010. The Chiefs lead the NFL in opponent kickoff return average (11.7) and are second in punt return average (18.4). Only Miami (5) has been penalized fewer times than Kansas City (7). The Chiefs have a bye week next Sunday (10/3) before resuming their schedule with road contests at Indianapolis (10/10) and at Houston (10/17). San Francisco travels to Atlanta next Sunday (10/3).

Mike Singletary was named the 16th head coach of the San Francisco 49ers on December 28, 2008. Singletary took over as the 49ers interim head coach on October 20, 2008 after serving as the assistant head coach/defense for the 49ers from 2006-08. Singletary spent the 2005 season as San Francisco’s assistant head coach and linebackers coach.
Prior to joining the 49ers, Singletary served as the inside linebackers coach for the Baltimore Ravens from 2003-04. A
10-time Pro Bowl linebacker for the Chicago Bears, Singletary played 12 seasons in the NFL (’81-92). He was a member of the Bears Super Bowl XX squad and was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in ’98. He was selected in the second round of the NFL Draft in ’81. Singletary earned All-America honors as both a junior and senior at Baylor University and was the only junior selected to the All-Southwest Conference Team of the ’70s. He starred at Evan E. Worthing (Tex.) High School in Houston. Singletary, a Houston, Texas native, was born on October 9, 1958. He and his wife, Kim, have seven children and live in Saratoga, CA.

Todd Haley was named the 11th head coach of the Kansas City Chiefs on February 6, 2009 and begins his second year leading the Chiefs. Haley enters his 15th season in the NFL in 2010 and his 14th season as an NFL coach after beginning his career as a scouting assistant with the N.Y. Jets in ’95.
Haley joined the Chiefs after a two-year stint as Arizona’s offensive coordinator (2007-08), helping the Cardinals reach Super Bowl XLIII as the club won its first division title since
’75. Under Haley’s direction, the Cardinals ranked third in the league in scoring as Arizona registered a franchise-record 427 points in 2008. The Cardinals also threw a team-record 32 TD passes in 2007. Haley has won division titles with four different NFL teams. He served as passing game coordinator/WRs coach under Bill Parcells with Dallas (2004-06) after beginning his career under Parcells with the N.Y. Jets (’97-00). He also served as WRs coach with Chicago (2001-03). Born on February 28, 1967, Haley grew up in Upper St. Clair, PA. He is the son of longtime NFL personnel executive Dick Haley, who helped build the Steelers Super Bowl teams of the ’70s. A ’91 graduate of the University of North Florida he was a recipient of that school’s Distinguished Alumni Award in 2009.

Head Coach Mike Singletary’s squad fi nished with an 8-8 record in 2009 and won four of its last six games. QB Alex Smith (D1-05) is in his fourth year at the helm of the 49ers offense and has compiled a 16-25 record as a starter. He set career-highs in TDs (18), completion percentage (60.5), and QB rating (81.5) in 10 starts in 2009. TE Vernon Davis (D1a-06) led the team in receptions (78), receiving yards (965), and tied with RB Frank Gore (D3a-05) for the most TDs (13) in 2009. Both Gore and Davis represented the San Francisco offense in the Pro Bowl following last season. Gore paced San Francisco’s rushing offense with 1,120 yards and 10 TDs. In the passing game, WR Michael Crabtree (D1-09) fi nished his rookie season second on the team with 625 receiving yards on 48 catches. WR Josh Morgan (D6-08) added 527 yards and three TDs. WR Ted Ginn was acquired in an off-season trade with Miami. A pair of rookies start on the San Francisco offensive line. Dominating in all facets of the game, the Chiefs notched their first victory of the season with a thorough 41-0 win over the San Francisco 49ers. A defensive shutout, a sparkling 133.3 passer rating from QB Damon Huard and a TD on special teams equaled a much-needed runaway victory for the Chiefs.
With the team’s back against the wall, the Chiefs couldn’t have scripted a better start to the game. Huard – filling in for injured starter Trent Green and making his first start at Arrowhead Stadium – completed all five of his pass attempts on the opening series, including a picture-perfect 13-yard TD toss to WR Dante Hall. Kansas City chewed up over six minutes on the drive, running off 10 plays and sprinting out to a 7-0 lead.
On the 49ers second play from scrimmage, rookie DE Tamba Hali recorded his first NFL sack, forcing a fumble in the process. San Francisco would recover that loose ball, but on the very next play, Chiefs LB Derrick Johnson stripped RB Frank Gore and KC recovered at the SF 25-yard line. A 22-yard field goal from K Lawrence Tynes gave KC a 10-0 early lead.
As would be the theme all afternoon, the Chiefs defense refused to let the 49ers mount any type of an attack. Not only did the Chiefs pitch their first shutout since a 49-0 win vs. Arizona (12/1/02), but the defense also tallied 4.0 sacks and four turnovers on the day. San Francisco mustered just 165 total net yards as the Chiefs upped their streak to 10 straight quarters without relinquishing a touchdown.
The Chiefs would stretch their lead to 17-0 midway through the second quarter when RB Larry Johnson bulled across the goal line for his first touchdown of the season. Moments later S Sammy Knight snatched his 38th career interception, returning it all the way to the 49ers 34-yard line. From there, Huard needed just one play to find WR Eddie Kennison on a stop-and-go route up the sideline for his second touchdown pass of the game and a commanding 24-0 Chiefs lead late in the first half.
The 49ers would mount their best drive of the first half just before halftime, but the Chiefs shutout remained intact as K Joe Nedney’s 51-yard field goal attempt sailed wide left as time expired.
The second half brought more of the same as Chiefs WR Rod Gardner forced a fumbled on the opening kickoff of the third quarter. Rookie S Jarrad Page recovered the fumble near midfield to set up Tynes for his second field goal and a 27-0 lead.
Kansas City’s offense went on the attack again late in the third quarter as Johnson racked up 32 rushing yards on the drive, including a two-yard TD run. With the 49ers game-planning to stop Johnson at all costs, the 2005 Pro Bowler wound up rushing for a hard-earned 101 yards on 30 carries.
Hall put the exclamation point on the resounding win with a 60-yard punt return touchdown up the middle of the coverage unit midway through the fourth quarter. Hall’s 11th career return score provided the final points of the Chiefs 41-0 victory.
GAME NOTES• KC allowed 165 total net yards, the club’s lowest total since permitting 132 at San Diego (10/3/99). • The Chiefs defense extended its streak without allowing a TD to 10 quarters, the club’s longest such stretch since an 11-quarter span (11/23/97 – 12/14/97).

K Ryan Succop hit three fi eld goals en route to a 16-14 Chiefs victory.
After a back-and-forth first half which saw the Chiefs and Browns exchange scoring drives, the Chiefs defense held the Browns offense scoreless in the second half as Kansas City registered a 16-14 victory at Cleveland Browns Stadium. Head Coach Todd Haley’s decision to go for a first down on fourth-and-one with 2:00 remaining in the contest proved pivotal as RB Thomas Jones made the first down, effectively sealing the victory. The key defensive play of the game came when Kansas City CB Brandon Flowers intercepted a QB Seneca Wallace pass and returned it 33 yards to paydirt, giving the Chiefs a 10-7 lead. The Chiefs made the first play of the game when LB Mike Vrabel worked his way into the backfield and brought down RB Jerome Harrison, forcing a fumble in the process that was recovered by DE Glenn Dorsey. After a review, the play stood and the Chiefs took over on the Cleveland 23-yard line. The turnover set up a 35-yard field goal by K Ryan Succop to put Kansas City on top 3-0 with 8:43 left to play in the first quarter. After getting pinned deep in their own territory Cleveland's offense went to work. RB Peyton Hillis picked up 12 yards to give the Browns breathing room. Wallace then connected with WR Mohamed Massaquioi for nine yards, Harrison for 23 yards and TE Benjamin Watson for 44 yards to move the ball to the Kansas City eight-yard line. An illegal contact penalty on third down gave the Browns first-and-goal at the two-yard line. Two plays later Hillis found the end zone on a one-yard dive. The TD gave the Browns a 7-3 lead with 12:31 left to play in the first half. After the Chiefs went three-and-out, the defense rose to the challenge as Flowers intercepted a Wallace pass intended for WR Chansi Stuckey and returned it 33 yards for a TD, putting the Chiefs back on top of the Browns at 10-7 with 10:02 left to play in the first half. The two teams traded knockout punches as Wallace answered the Chiefs defensive TD with a 65-yard TD pass to WR Josh Cribbs to steal the lead back, making it a 14-10 advantage for the Browns with 8:43 left in the first half. An interception by CB Sheldon Brown at the Cleveland 35-yard line gave the ball back to Cleveland, and the teams traded punts following the interception. Pinned inside the 10-yard line, RB Jamaal Charles picked up 20 yards before a ball was tipped at the line of scrimmage and intercepted by DT Ahtyba Rubin. The turnover set up a 42-yard K Phil Dawson FG attempt that was wide left. Faced with third-and-six to open the second half, QB Matt Cassel connected with TE Tony Moeaki for 20 yards for a first down. Lining up for another third-and-six play, Cassel found WR Dwayne Bowe for 17 yards to keep the drive moving. Jones picked up 11 yards to the Cleveland 15-yard line. A 26-yard FG from Succop narrowed the Browns lead to 14-13 with 8:45 left in the third quarter. At the beginning of the fourth quarter, Cassel would orchestrate a 14 play, 68-yard drive that would culminate with a 23-yard FG from Succop to give the Chiefs a 16-14 lead with 7:41 left to play in the contest. Kansas City's defense held their own forcing two late-game punts. The Chiefs offense sealed the game on fourth-and-one when Jones leaped over the pile to pick up the first down, allowing the Chiefs to run out the clock on the 16-14 victory.
