Fascination: Performance

Fascination:

What is a fascination? For me understanding the fundamentals, dare I say the principles, in which a critical view on design requires. What is it that I appreciate in the natural and composed environments that surround me? What catches my eye at first sensational glance and what keeps me in-terested with sustained story behind it. These elements make up my so called appropriated identity, not of my own creation but of an organized curation. The purely sublime manifestation of witty invention mixed with the cleverly altered classics. At first I am only drawn by the substanti-ated and intellectualized but the emotional and romantic come through in moments of self professed weakness. Its a melange but continuity exists with consideration for aesthetics, formal integrity, proportion, material, context, and message.

Performance:

The highest form of creative expression is performance through music, dance, opera, theater, public display, live painting, improvisation, and speech, where everything comes together. The stage is designed by archi-tects, the curtains by textile designers, the seats in the house by fur-niture designers. The set is designed by scenographers, the lighting by lighting designers, perhaps the most important but rarely considered as-pect. The text is adapted and put into structure by a dramateur put into practice by actors or dancers who are guided by directors or choreogra-phers respectively. The combinations of skills are endless and the ultimate goal is what ever creatively inclined individual or collective is trying to achieve, telling a story. Performance is the ultimate gesamtkunstwerk. The use of performance for me is a way to achieve satire in my work, to ef-fectively dramatize the mundane, and to communicate by keeping my audience interested.
