Tutorial Participation Guidelines
Students are required to attend at least 8 (eight) tutorials during the semesterAND submit answers to the questions set for each tutorial.
For each week that a student ATTENDS their signed-on tutorial, ENGAGES in tutorial discussion and SUBMITS to the tutor completed
answers to the questions set for that topic they will receive up to 2 (two) marks, up to a maximum of 16 (sixteen) marks.
Tutorial participation in ALL tutorials in the week of 23rd April (i.e. week 8) and 7th May (i.e. week 10) will NOT be assessed due to the
Public Holidays. ALL students are expected to attend their signed-on tutorial having already completed ALL of the tutorial questions set for that week and
printed their answers out, ensuring that their name, student number, tutors name and tutorial group are included.
Please note that some topics also cover the appendix to the chapter. In this case ALL questions from both the Chapter and the Appendix
must be completed.
ONLY papers handed in during your signed-on tutorial will be accepted. Please refer to last point below for directions in situations of illness or
other extenuating circumstances.
Any student who does not stay for the whole of the tutorial will not receive a mark for participation even if they have handed in answers to the
tutorial questions.
Submitted papers that do not contain answers to ALL of the questions listed for that week, or the answers submitted are not complete, or are
the answers to the wrong questions, may not have the full participation mark awarded. The answers to the tutorial questions MUST be typed however diagrams can be hand-drawn.
For students who attend more than 8 tutorials their best 8 scores out of the 10 assessable tutorials will count toward their grade.
If a student has already missed one tutorial (excepting the tutorials held during the weeks 23 rd April and 7th May) a maximum of 1 (one) mark
maybe given upon the presentation of the tutorial answers AND a valid medical certificate covering the date of the student's signed-on tutorial.
The tutorial answers and medical certificate MUST be presented to the Course Administrators (Belinda or Eliette) within 5 (five) calendar
days of the missed tutorial and the medical certificate must have been obtained within 2 (two) days of the missed tutorial. These may be
provided by email [email protected]; presented in person room 658, level 6, Colin Clark Building; or faxed - Attention: Belinda
(07) 3365 7299
Note that no dispensation will be granted for students who miss their tutorial for any reason other than illness, or an extenuating
circumstance that can be evidenced (e.g. a death in the family or other emotional trauma, or a very important family or social
commitment). Missing your bus or having to work does not count. If you are unsure please contact us on [email protected]
All students are expected to attend ALL assessable tutorials and only miss a tutorial if they are unable to attend for legitimate reasons,
therefore being able to obtain the maximum amount of marks. Students with ongoing illness or other ongoing extenuating circumstances
should contact us at [email protected] and provide corroborating documentation straight away so that we may implement alternative
assessment if it falls within the grounds and is required.
