Dr. Pervez Ahmed, CEO & Managing Director of Max Healthcare

Institute Ltd.

Dr. Ahmed was born in Shillong, Assam and had his Indian School

Certificate Examination completed from St. Edmunds School followed by

Pre-Medical at Hindu College, New Delhi and MBBS from Armed Forces

Medical College, Pune. After one and a half year residency at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi

he proceeded to New York, where he had completed Residency in Internal Medicine and

Fellow-ship in Cardiology. He is Board Certified in Internal and Cardiovascular disease and is

also a Certified Medical Director. Since 1977 he has been involved in academic Medicine at

SUNY, Downstate. He has been Physician In-charge of ICU and been Director of Critical Care

Medicine at Brookdale Hospital Medical Centre. Dr. Pervez Ahmed has been an active

participant in healthcare related fields especially in development of standards of critical care

medicine in New York. He has been Course Director of many Internal Medicine and Cardiology

review courses at Brookdale and participant in clinical studies. He was also responsible for a

start up extended care Rehab facility in New York. He has extensive experience in Healthcare

Management. Dr. Ahmed Perez was a Board Member of Max Healthcare Institute Ltd. from

2005 to 2007, and then Executive Medical Director from 2007-2009, and now CEO & Managing

Director of Max Healthcare Institute Ltd.

Mutasim M. Y. Z. Alireza, Managing Director, Magrabi Hospitals &

Centers

Mutasim Alireza, is a Saudi national, born in 1960 in Jeddah Saudi

Arabia. He completed his High school education in the U.K.,

undergraduate and graduate studies in management from the U.S.A

ending with an MBA from the University of California, Los Angeles

1984. Mutasim has been working in the healthcare Industry in the Middle East for the last 25

years. Thirteen years at AMI Saudi Arabia LTD, to eventually become its CEO.AMI had the

management contracts for six of the largest specialized & general governmental Hospitals in

Saudi Arabia with a total of 2100 beds. In 1997 AMI& Mutasim partnered with Magrabi

Hospitals &centers (MHC),the leading specialized provider of Opthalmology, ENT & Dental

services in the Middle East. Under his leadership as CEO of MHC since 1997, MHC expanded

across the Middle East & Egypt, achieved JCI accreditation, and quadrupled the turnover& today

treating more than 600,000 patients annually.

Mutasim is also the elected head of the Healthcare committee at the chamber of

commerce in Jeddah as well as being on the healthcare Board of Makkah region & founding

Board member of Ebsar charity organization for the blind as well as the not for profit, Saudi

institute for health services.

MHC vision is to be the leading, most reputable & recognized sub specialized provider of

Ophthalmology, ENT & Dentistry services throughout the Middle East and Africa.

Dr. Alejandro J. Ayón, Chief Medical Officer, Hospital

Metropolitano

Dr. Ayón is currently CMO of Hospital Metropolitano in

Managua where he is in charge of Medical structure and relationship and

quality standards. In addition, he has established the Committees of the

Medical Staff encourage the compromise of doctors with the hospital; actualize the bylaws and

reglamentation of the medical staff. He is involved in all the Committees of the Hospital and

was also involved in the accreditional process with the International Joint Commission (IJC). He

is a Member of the Hospital Innovation Committee. Organize and proposes new ideas for the

Strategic Planning. Prior to taking this position, Dr. Ayón was Chief of Pediatric Service at

Hospital Metropolitano, from July 2002 – May 2006 He also held the position of Dean at

Catholic University “Redemptoris Matter” in Managua, Nicaragua

Dr Nayeem Azim, ACOMET Hospital,

Afghanistan

A graduate of Kabul Medical Institute, Dr

Nayeem Azim arrived in the United Kingdom as a

refugee from Afghanistan in 1993. Through hard

work and perseverance he qualified to work as a doctor in the UK in 1997 and in 2000 completed

his postgraduate training in family medicine. He managed his own medical practice in North

London and, with the support of the British Medical Association, the UK National Health

Service and others founded a college for overseas doctors called North Central London College.

In 2002 Dr Azim returned to Afghanistan, initially as an adviser to the WHO. He went on to

develop a new hospital and training center, ACOMET, adjacent to Kabul University. ACOMET

opened in 2007 and is already one of Kabul’s most trusted private hospitals and training centers

– its medical training course having received accreditation from the UK Royal College of

General Practitioners.

Dr. Jacob Bergsland, Co-Founder, BH Heart Center

Dr. Bergsland graduated from the University of Oslo Medical

Faculty in 1972 and completed his residency in Cardiothoracic Surgery

at SUNYAB in 1983. He is currently Medical Director at the BH Heart

Center, Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Prior to this, he held the

position of Cardiac Surgeon, at the Interventional Center, Rikshospitalet and was Director Center

for Less Invasive Cardiac Surgery, Kaleida Health, Buffalo, New York from 1997 to 2001. He

has received certification from the American Board of Surgery in 1992 and the American Board

of Thoracic Surgery in 1993. He has undertaken many consultancies, including: Cardiothoracic

Systems Inc, Cupertino CA (Consultant for Off pump coronary bypass surgery product line);

Guidant Corporation Inc , Minneapolis, Minn. (Consultant for Off pump coronary bypass

surgery product line and Medtronic Inc , Minneapolis, Minn. (Consultant for Off pump coronary

bypass surgery product line). Dr. Bergsland has 123 publications in peer reviewed journals and

more than 50 published abstracts and numerous international and domestic presentations.

Anthony Cabrelli, Development Director – New Markets, Bupa

Group

Following university, where he obtained a BA in Business Studies

with Comparative Economic Development, Mr. Cabrelli began his career

in 1985 as a management consultant. He worked for three years for

Management Horizons, a leading international strategic consultancy, and

then Verdict (now part of Data monitor).

He joined the Group Strategy Department of Axa PPP Healthcare in 1990, where he

became involved in new business developments, business process re-engineering, acquisitions

and international healthcare development. In 1994, he moved to Bupa to progress the Group’s

international development agenda. This role involved him in a wide range of projects covering

new business start-ups, acquisitions and joint ventures across Europe, the Middle East, Latin

America and Asia. Notably, he project-managed the start-up of Bupa Middle East (Bupa’s

specialist health insurance company in Saudi Arabia), and Bupa Ireland (Bupa’s previous

specialist health insurance business in Ireland).

In 1999, Mr. Cabrelli began working for Bupa International (Bupa’s expatriate medical

insurance business) where he focused on the development of strategic distribution alliances and

the management of new ventures. He was subsequently responsible for global distribution and

development and, when Bupa International acquired IHI Danmark in 2005, took global sales and

development responsibility for the enlarged business. Since January 2008, he has been

Development Director – New Markets for the Bupa Group where he has been accountable for

shaping the strategy for Bupa’s entry into new international markets. His exceptional work

during his career at Bupa was recognized in March 2008 when he received the Bupa Group’s

Chief Executive Award for his contribution to the Group’s international expansion.

Seema Chaturvedi, Managing Director, Accelerator Group LLC

Ms. Chaturvedi has over 17 years of capital markets and financial

management experience. As an entrepreneur, investment banker and an

investor, she brings forth a unique perspective to the strategic planning

process. She is founder and Managing Director of Accelerator Group,

LLC a strategic advisory services firm focused on providing high quality

investment banking advisory services in areas of business combinations, mergers and

acquisitions and raising growth capital. While catering to broader industry segments, the firm has

developed core expertise in the industry areas of healthcare, manufacturing (focus – automotive

& aerospace), food & agriculture. It also provides customized knowledge services in areas of

business intelligence and market research. Ms. Chaturvedi has served on the Boards of The

IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global, TiE Detroit, Marygrove College, International Business

Council within Automation Alley. Ms. Chaturvedi was named to Crain’s Detroit Business “40

under 40” list, Crain’s Detroit Business “Detroit’s Most Influential Business Women” list,

Detroit’s Enterprising Women list by the Detroit Historical Society. She has been recognized a

Woman of Distinction for her Outstanding Contribution to Business by the Asian Indian

Women’s Association in Michigan. Ms. Chaturvedi holds a Masters degree in Finance from

Boston College and an undergraduate degree with honors in Economics from Delhi University in

India.

Fernando Alberto Cirino, Senior Executive, Banco Santander

Mr. Cirino joined Banco Santander in August/2001, as part

of the team who structured and managed the new business unit

focused on relationships with Governments, as well as private

Healthcare and Education segments, following the same model which had been implemented

earlier by Santander in Spain and in other Latin American countries, such as: Mexico, Chile,

Venezuela, Puerto Rico and Colombia. Mr. Cirino currently manages a specialized team

covering the State of Sao Paulo – approximately 34% of Brazilian GDP – and is also engaged in

the integration process with recently acquired Banco Real, which has also enjoyed a major stake

in private healthcare and education. With a focused and specialized approach, Santander Brazil

has succeeded in securing a leading position in these business segments in the country.

Prior to Santander, Mr. Cirino worked for more than 16 years in Corporate Banking,

Structured Trade and Corporate Finance at Lloyds Bank and American Express Bank’s

subsidiaries in Brazil. Mr. Cirino has a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, with a post

graduate degree in Industrial Production and Economic Engineering, having attended extension

programs at The Wharton School (University of Pennsylvania, USA), Manchester Business

School (United Kingdom) and Kellogg School of Management (Northwestern University).

Guy Ellena, Director, Health and Education Department, IFC

Mr. Guy Ellena is the Director of the Health and Education

Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC). He is in charge

of a growing portfolio of health and education investments of over $294

million in more than 30 emerging market countries. Mr. Ellena joined the

World Bank in 1986 and occupied successive operational positions as a Health Economist in

several regions where he carried out policy work for the World Bank. He joined IFC's Latin

America and Caribbean Department as its first Senior Health Specialist in 1998, as part of the

Department’s new Health Care Unit. Between April 2000 and November 2001, Mr. Ellena was

the Technical Manager for the Global Practice Group for Social Sectors (now the Health and

Education Department). Before joining the World Bank Group, Mr. Ellena was a researcher and

health economics/policy consultant for the French Government's development agencies. He

holds a Masters Degree in Economics as well as a PhD in Health Economics from the University

of Aix-Marseille.

Juan Enriquez, Managing Director, Excel Medical Ventures

Mr. Enriquez is the author of the global bestseller book, As

the Future Catches You and The United States of America. He is

CEO of Biotechnonomy, a Life Sciences Research and Investment

Firm where he is leading the research on the global effects of genomics. Juan provides thoughtful

and provocative insight to life sciences and its impact on politics, the economy and our everyday

lives. He argues the importance of companies whose futures lie with the intersecting fates of

science, technology and computing will do well to mind our knowledge gap, not get swallowed

up by it! Juan has been named a Fast 50 Winner for achieving milestone as a World Explorer.

Dr. Ahmed Ghali, Chairman, Critical Care Areas, Dar Al-Fouad

Hospital

Dr. Ghali graduated from Ain-Shams University School of

medicine in 1978. He showed early interest in critical care medicine and

cardiology. He was appointed as a resident at the cardiothoracic

intensive care at Ain-Shams University hospitals, Cairo EGYPT. Dr.

Ghali had his Master's and MD degrees in Cardiology from Ain-Shams

University. He had his postgraduate training in St.Luke's Episcopal hospital Houston Texas in

Cardiology Dept. He became an international member of St.Luke's Episcopal medical society.

He became director of the cardiothoracic Surgery ICU and non-invasive lab at Ain-

Shams University Cardiothoracic surgery Dept.

Dr. Ghali was assigned the director of SICU at Dar Al-Fouad Hospital, Giza Egypt. Dar

Al-Fouad Hospital is working in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic at USA which became a

JCI accredited facility. He became the Chairman of medical council (2003-2005) then Chairman

of Critical Care areas till now. Dr. Ghali is the moderator of Liver transplant program at Dar Al-

Fouad Hospital and Al-Sahel teaching hospital in Egypt.

Dr. Ghali has several international publications including areas of critical care scoring,

liver transplantation, and infective endocarditics. He is also a co-author in the Fundamentals of

Critical Care Support 4th ed. 2008, published by the society of Critical Care Medicine, USA. He

is an international FCCS course consultant at the SCCM.

Buddy Gumina, Partner and Head of US Healthcare, Apax

Partners

Buddy Gumina is a Partner and Head of US Healthcare at

Apax Partners. He focuses on investments in healthcare services,

products, pharma and healthcare IT. Some recent deals have included Trizetto, Inc.; Qualitest

Pharmaceuticals; Spectrum Laboratory Network; Encompass Home Health; Voyager

HospiceCare, Inc.; and MagnaCare Holdings, Inc.

Prior to joining Apax Partners, Buddy was a Partner at Saunders Karp & Megrue, where

he specialized in investments in healthcare and business services. Before joining Saunders Karp

& Megrue, Buddy was an Associate at DLJ Merchant Banking Partners where he focused on

healthcare services and business services. Prior to that, he was an Analyst in the High Yield

Group of Kidder, Peabody & Co. where he specialized in public and private debt financings and

recapitalizations.

Buddy received an MBA from the Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration

and a BA in Political Science from Yale University.

Nicolaus Henke, McKinsey and Company

At McKinsey, Nicolaus heads the Payor & Provider Healthcare

Practice in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa and chairs McKinsey’s work

with national Health Systems globally. Over the past decade, Nicolaus has

worked on more than 250 health care engagements in 17 health care systems

on a broad set of issues, including health care system design, creating and managing payors,

hospital strategy, and operations, as well as R&D and marketing of pharmaceuticals.

He frequently speaks on and publishes health care topics. Prior to his time at McKinsey,

Nicolaus worked in banking for 2 years. He holds a Master and Doctorate in Business

Economics from the University of Muenster, Germany, as well as a Master in Public

Administration from Harvard University, where he was a John J McCloy Scholar.

Fola Laoye, CEO, Hygeia

Mrs. Laoye holds a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from the

University of Lagos, Nigeria and a Masters of Business Administration

from Harvard Business School, Cambridge, USA. She is also an

Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England & Wales and the

Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria. Fola has had fifteen years of business experience,

both locally and internationally, having trained with Ernst & Young, Lagos and Price

WaterHouse Coopers in London. She is currently the Chief Executive Officer of Hygeia Nigeria

Limited, promoters of Hygeia HMO, the foremost health maintenance organization in Nigeria

and the Lagoon Hospitals group. While with Hygeia, she has been responsible for the start up

and growth of the Hygeia HMO business and the Hygeia Community Health Plan as well as the

roll-out of two ultra-modern medical facilities in Lagos. She also lectures part-time at the Lagos

Business School (Pan-African University) in the area of Strategy and Business Policy.

Roberta Lipson, Chief Executive Officer, Chindex

Since Ms. Lipson co-founded Chindex in 1981, the company has

expanded from its core business of capital medical equipment sales and

marketing to healthcare delivery. Ms. Lipson has been the creative force

behind the Beijing United Family Hospital and the United Family

Hospitals concept. An active leader in the business community in Beijing for over 25 years, Ms.

Lipson currently serves on the Board of Governors of The American Chamber of Commerce in

China (Amcham) and is Co-Chair of the Amcham Healthcare Forum. She is an advisor to the

Medical Subgroup of the U.S. Department of Commerce-China JCCT Negotiations, is on the

Education and Health Foundation and Kehilath Beijing. Ms. Lipson holds an MBA from

Columbia University.

Dr. Victor Lithakanyane, Executive Director, Netcare Limited

Dr Litlhakanyane worked as an intern and medical officer at

Pelonomi hospital from 1988 to 1990. He worked for a few months in the

private sector and in 1991 returned to the public service to specialise in

radiation oncology. With the advent of democracy he was appointed as

the Chief Director for health service in the Free State provincial government in 1995 .He was

promoted to the position of Superintendent General and head of the department of health in the

Free State from the 1st April 2001 to November 2004. He is presently an Executive Director for

Stakeholder Relations for the private healthcare group, Netcare Limited where he is responsible

for amongst others the Private Public Partnership portfolio.

Dr Litlhakanyane is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a

medical practitioner and radiation oncology specialist. He is a member of the Health Professions

Council of South Africa and an Associate of The College of Radiation Oncologists. He received

the Oliver Tambo fellowship in health leadership in 1996. He obtained the degree MB, ChB

from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 1988, Masters in Medicine (Radiotherapy) from the

University of the Free State in 1994, Masters in Business Administration in Health Care from the

University of the Free State in 2001. He also holds a certificate in health services management

from Clark Atlanta University in the USA and a postgraduate diploma in health management

from the University of Cape Town.

Sebastian Mallaby, Director, Maurice R. Greenberg Center for

Geoeconomic Studies

Sebastian Mallaby is director of the Maurice R. Greenberg Center

for Geoeconomic Studies (CGS), deputy director of the David Rockefeller

Studies Program, and Paul A. Volcker senior fellow for international

economics at the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR). An experienced journalist and an

acclaimed author, Mr. Mallaby joined CFR from the Washington Post, where he served as a

columnist and editorial board member. In addition to his oversight of the CGS and his role in

managing the Studies Program, Mr. Mallaby is examining how the interplay of economics and

politics is shaping international relations, and is currently working on a book on hedge funds. In

2003, Mr. Mallaby went on leave from the Washington Post to become a senior fellow at CFR,

where he wrote a history of the World Bank under James Wolfensohn. Before joining the Post in

1999, Mr. Mallaby spent thirteen years with The Economist. While at The Economist, he worked

in London, where he wrote about international finance; in Africa, where he covered Nelson

Mandela’s release and the collapse of apartheid; and in Japan, where he covered the breakdown

of the country’s political and economic consensus. Between 1997 and 1999, Mr. Mallaby was

The Economist’s Washington bureau chief and wrote the magazine’s weekly Lexington column

on American politics and foreign policy. Mr. Mallaby has also contributed to numerous other

publications, including Foreign Affairs, Foreign Policy, Prospect (UK), New York Times, The

New Republic, Slate, Policy Review, and National Interest. Mr. Mallaby was educated at

Oxford. He graduated in 1986 with a First Class degree in Modern History.

Alejandro Gil Luna, Chief Operating Officer, Centro Médico Puerta

de Hierro

Alejandro Gil Luna is an Industrial Engineer who graduated from

Tecnológico de Monterrey, and MBA at Thunderbird School of Global

Business. Mr. Gil Luna served as Director at Centro Médico Puerta de

Hierro for more than 5 years and is now Chief Operating Officer. Throughout this time Mr. Gil

Luna has participated intensively in the expansion plan of Puerta de Hierro group. Part of his

main activities are the development of new Hospital sites and the creation of the corporate

structure to achieve a sustainable growth.

Christine Goeschel, Director, Patient Safety and Quality Initiatives,

Johns Hopkins University

Ms. Goeschel is Director of Patient Safety and Quality Initiatives

for The Johns Hopkins University Quality and Safety Research Group

(QSRG), Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine, a

clinical instructor in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing and adjunct faculty at the Bloomberg

School of Public Health. Chris, along with QSRG Director Dr. Peter Pronovost, facilitates

strategic development and implementation of efforts to improve health care on a global scale and

coordinates national and international collaborative improvement projects. As an executive with

over 20 years of acute care experience as a critical care R.N., Chief Nursing Officer, Chief

Operating Officer and Chief Compliance Officer, Ms. Goeschel has a strong and successful track

record in strategic and program development, project management, and education/training for

health system leaders at all structural levels. In 2000, she created a non-profit division at the

Michigan Health & Hospital Association dedicated to Quality and Patient Safety Improvement,

served as its Executive Director and led the Keystone ICU project with Dr. Pronovost. Ms.

Goeschel has served on a variety of state and national nursing and leadership boards and was a

Health Resource Education Trust (HRET) 2003-04 Patient Safety Leadership Fellow. Chris is a

doctoral candidate in Health Systems Management at the Tulane School of Public Health and

Tropical Medicine where her research interests include characteristics of hospital boards and

their association with quality and safety performance.

Alexandre Oliveira, Senior Investment Officer, Health and Education

Department, IFC

Alexandre Oliveira is a Senior Investment Officer in International

Finance Corporation’s Health and Education Department. In this capacity,

he is responsible for the origination, evaluation, structuring and negotiation

of IFC’s investments in the education and healthcare sectors across different

regions. Also, he is responsible for managing these investments once they are in our portfolio.

His experience includes transactions in Latin America, Eastern Europe and Asia.

Alexandre joined IFC’s Health and Education Department four and a half years ago.

Prior to that, he spent eight years in investment banking at J.P. Morgan and Deutsche Bank in

New York, focused on Mergers and Acquisitions and Debt Capital Markets. Alexandre holds an

MBA from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management; a Civil Engineering Degree from

the University of São Paulo; and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Fundação

Getúlio Vargas, in Brazil.

Beverly Khnie Philip, M.D, Professor of Anaesthesia, Harvard

Medical School. Founding Director, Day Surgery Unit, Brigham and

Women’s Hospital.

Dr. Philp is founder and Director of the Day Surgery Unit at the

Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston, MA and Professor of

Anaesthesia at Harvard University. She received her undergraduate

degree from Queens College, City University of New York, New York, the MD degree from

Upstate Medical Center, State University of New York, Syracuse, NY, and completed the

anesthesia residency at the Peter Bent Brigham Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and Boston,

MA. Dr. Philip is active in research in ambulatory anesthesia, particularly in the pharmacology

of new anesthetic agents.

Dr. Philip is a founding member and Past President of the Society for Ambulatory

Anesthesia (SAMBA), a national organization of over 2000 anesthesiologists which promotes

scientific progress in the subspecialty of ambulatory anesthesia. She has served as the Chair of

the Joint Commission (JC) Ambulatory Health Care Professional and Technical Advisory

Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC); she also serves as a member of the CMS

(Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) Advisory Panel on Ambulatory Payment

Classification Groups.

Dr. K. Hari Prasad, CEO, Apollo Health City, Jubilee Hills,

Hyderabad, AP; India

Dr. Prasad graduated the search for specialization began and the pull

was towards the glamour specialties like orthopedics and cardiac surgery.

However not wanting to get restricted to one specialty and wanting to contribute over a larger

area, Anesthesiology became the specialty of choice.

Having specialized in anesthesiology, Dr. Hari Prasad worked in at the family hospital

for 4 years before embarking on a journey to contribute to the establishment of emergency

medicine as a specialty India. Dr. Hari Prasad joined the Apollo Group of Hospitals and

contributed to the launch of the first ever dedicated accident & emergency hospital in the country

the Colmena Insurance Company from 1989 to 1991 then as General Manager of the Colmena

Anne Rooney, Vice President, Consulting Services, Joint

Anne Rooney currently serves as Vice President, Consulting

Services, for Joint Commission Resources and Joint Commission

International. In this role, Ms. Rooney oversees the delivery of technical

assistance and educational services for US and international clients of Joint Commission

Resources and Joint Commission International, including individual health care organizations,

government agencies, and ministries of health. Ms. Rooney’s international experience includes

consulting, education, speaking engagements, and evaluation engagements in the US, Europe,

Chuck Siconolfi has skillfully responded to the dramatic changes within

healthcare delivery. Recognizing that contemporary healthcare is

constantly evolving, he has researched healthcare delivery trends and

progression of modern design to accommodate the needs of the patients, families, staff and

communities. His research has demonstrated that better patient outcomes are achievable in fewer

square feet per patient episode when the full impacts of new protocols of care are recognized.

He uses this research as a platform for innovation, combining it with a unique vision of design

that communicates a larger social purpose. Chuck is LEED Certified, a registered architect,

member of the AIA Healthcare committee and a founding member of the ACHA (American

Gary L. Filerman, Professor, Health Systems Administration,

Georgetown University

Gary L. Filerman, Ph.D., is Professor of Health Systems

Administration at Georgetown University, where he led the formation of

the departments of international health and health systems

administration. His teaching and research interests are private sector development, quality of

care, global health standards and managerial competency development. For 28 years Dr.

Filerman led global efforts to develop health care administration as a profession. He has served

as a consultant in thirty-five countries in collaboration with IFC, the World Bank, PAHO,

USAID and several foundations. He is currently an adviser to Joint Commission International.

The Filerman Prize is the highest recognition for scholarship and leadership in health

administration education. His Ph.D. and Master's degrees in Health Services Administration and

Latin American Government are from the University of Minnesota.

Ms Aida Kimemia is a Principal Investment Officer at IFC. She is

based in Nairobi. Kenya and focuses on implementing IFC's health and

education strategy in Sub-Saharan Africa. This includes providing

innovatively structured finance for health and education companies,

partnering with local financial institutions to provide debt facilities to health and education small

and medium enterprises and implementing advisory programs to improve the operating

environment for health care and education sector organizations. Prior to joining IFC in 1997, she

was a Relationship Manager at Citibank. She holds a postgraduate degree in financial

management from Johns Hopkins University, USA and a Bachelor's degree in mathematics and

economics from St. Lawrence University, USA.

Chris McCahan, Principal Investment Officer, Health and Education

Department, IFC

Chris McCahan is a Principal Investment Officer with the Health and

Education Department of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the

private sector arm of the World Bank Group. For the last 10 years with IFC Chris has appraised,

structured and led negotiations for complex and innovative transactions in many parts of the

world, including within the Asian healthcare sector. Prior to his investment work in private

health care, Chris led investments in other real sectors, primarily within the Latin America

region. Before joining IFC he held positions as an internal auditor and cost accountant in the

banking and telecommunications sectors, respectively. He holds an MBA from SMU's Cox

School of Business.

Emmett Moriarty, Principal Health Specialist, Health and Education

Emmett Moriarty is the IFC’s Principal Health Sector Specialist. He

advises IFC’s management on the key commercial aspects of our

investments in the health sector worldwide – including business

development, investment appraisal and portfolio management. Occasionally

Emmett takes a seat on the boards of IFC investee companies. Emmett’s background is in

healthcare Program Management and Performance Improvement. He has worked with the boards

of major healthcare organizations in more than 30 countries.

Prior to joining IFC in 2004, Emmett worked for the healthcare consulting practices of

Deloitte and KPMG. Most recently he led the Performance Improvement practice of KPMG

Consulting, the UK’s largest healthcare consultancy. In this role he managed the turnaround of

healthcare organizations in the private, public and not-for-profit sectors. These ranged from some

of the largest private and public hospitals in Europe to a struggling refugee hospital in the Middle

East. Emmett has also managed the implementation of major health sector reform programs in

Eastern Europe, Africa and the Caribbean.

Tim Ryan, Principal Investment Officer, Health and Education

Department, IFC

In August 2002, Mr. Ryan was appointed Senior Investment Officer

for the Health and Education Department based in Washington, DC. He has

broad experience in traditional and specialty financial products including

senior and subordinated term debt, risk sharing facilities, bank guarantees, credit guarantees,

commercial paper, convertible bonds and notes, income notes, options, and preferred and

common equity. Mr. Ryan is the department specialist in student lending and school finance

facilities.

In addition to his work at IFC, he has worked as a consultant with Booz, Allen, Hamilton

and in corporate finance with Levi Strauss & Co. He is a Certified Public Accountant and was an

Elena Sterlin, Manager, Health and Education Department, IFC

Elena is a Manager in IFC's Health and Education Department,

where she manages a team responsible for the growth, evaluation and

structuring of IFC’s investments in the education and health care sectors.

She has been with IFC since 1996 and, prior to working on the health and

education sectors, she focused on investments in the manufacturing and infrastructure sectors in

Eastern Europe, Turkey and the former Soviet Union. Prior to joining IFC, Elena worked in the

Eastern European energy team at Salomon Brothers. Elena holds an MBA from the University of

Michigan and a Masters degree in Applied Mathematics from the Moscow State University.
