About the PMA Memorial Scholarship
The 2018 PMA Memorial Scholarship – Honoring David Hillman
Established in 1991, the PMA Memorial Scholarship consists of a significant monetary award to further the education of a child or grandchild of a Property Management Association Member in good standing. The Scholarship, funded primarily by PMA’s Summer Classic and member donations, is presented at the PMA Past Presidents’ Awards Banquet held in November of each year.
The PMA Memorial Scholarship was created not only to provide educational grants to help deserving students further their education but also to recognize outstanding individuals and memorialize their contributions to our industry and Association.
This year, PMA is honoring the memory of Southern Management founder David Hillman who passed away December 27, 2017, losing a courageous battle with cancer. David began his career as a certified public accountant but found his true passion in acquiring and managing real estate when he established Southern Management in 1965. There is no comparable company to Southern Management. David was always proud to say that his company was the only one in the industry that spent more resources on the development and training of his team members than it did on advertising.
PMA 2018 David Hillman Memorial Scholarship Application Requirements
1. Applicant must be a U.S. citizen.2. Applicant must be the child or grandchild of a PMA
member in good standing. 3. Applicant must be a high school senior or
high school graduate and currently enrolled in an accredited university, college, technical or vocational school.
4. Applications must be accompanied by a high school transcript and, if enrolled in an accredited university, college, technical or vocational school, a transcript from that institution.
5. Applicant must submit a double-spaced computer-generated statement addressing the topic, “Why I Should Be Considered for the PMA Memorial Scholarship.” This statement should not exceed 500 words.
6. To be considered for the award during a given year, applications must be received at the PMA office by the close of business August 1, 2018.
Note: Prior PMA Memorial Scholarship applicants and recipients may reapply, provided all requirements are met.
PMA 2018 David Hillman Memorial Scholarship Criteria
Applicants will be reviewed by the PMA Awards Committee. Financial need is not a selection criteria. Application requirements are as follows:
1. Applicant must fulfill all application requirements and complete the PMA Memorial Scholarship Application Form.
2. Essays will be evaluated on content, writing skills, and adherence to accepted grammatical standards.
3. Applicants must be well-rounded students, involved in extracurricular and civic activities, sports and academics.
4. The PMA Awards Committee reserves the right to interview Scholarship finalists prior to selecting a recipient.
