MARCH 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”

Potentate’s MessageHere it is March already, time seems

to be flying by. February was a very good month. I would like to thank all the Nobles and their Ladies for all their help with the circus. It was a great circus with good shows and fun for everyone. I hope everyone enjoyed it as much as Lady Harriet and I did.

March 17 is another Tangier Fundraiser, Corned Beef and Cabbage, on St Patty’s Day.

Come and support your center. We have something special planned this year. We will have Irish karaoke in the green room so you can have your dinner, then come sing along with the gang. Bring your friends; it will be a great time. We look forward to working with all of you to make this one of the best ever.

We will also be having a Wing & Beer night on Friday, March 10th. Check out the ad in the Hot Sands.

The Tangier Potentate’s Ball will be on Saturday, March 25 and breakfast on Sunday, March 26. The Ball Committee is working hard to make it a fun weekend. The reservation form is in the Hot Sands and at the office. Please plan to join us if you can.

What a great meal we had at the stated meeting in February! Thanks to all the nobles who helped prepare and serve it. March will be another good one; you won’t want to miss it. Call the office, 402-392-0404 and get your reservations in.

Thank you all for supporting Hamburger nights. They are doing great and it is wonderful to see everyone. Check out this month’s specials in the Hot Sands.

Don’t forget, we are having the bus trip to the Minneapolis Hospital on May 19th and 20th. It is an amazing experience to see all that is done for the children.

Please help support all the clubs and units when they have a function. They are always a good time. Together we can make Tangier the best Shrine Center in the country.

MARCH 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”

Arab PatrolSteve Bugajny, SecretaryGreetings and March Madness Hello. Well

its hard to believe we are here again at the time of year where we anticipate the spring of the year, and to have it come quickly.

The Circus is done, and we now will work diligently to get the Corned Beef and Cabbage event rolling and processed. There will be a full list of days of activity including the prep days, serve days, and rest days. In the past there has been the cooking of the beef, slicing the beef, cooking carrots, and of course set up, all on different days that will be prominently displayed in this edition of the Hot Sands. Please, if you are able, help out where you can. Just like the Circus, many hands make light work. In the past years LeRoy and Charlie Fuglsang have been the spearheads of directing the food prep. Thank you gentlemen, and thanks to Arab Patrol for also such a major participation in getting this done.

However, we are but a part of this event. So many units and clubs help out and we salute you. Thank You! Again all are needed and all are welcome. A great way to practice camaraderie and friendship.

As planned , we will have the Arab Patrol Rib Feed and fixins in April. Check the calendar. It is always a great food fest and a happy event.

So peace and good thoughts to you all. Come join us for the food, fun, camaraderie, and social glue. We love to see you smile.

Arbor ShrineBy: Don LarsonSpring is just around the corner and the

snow birds will be returning to Nebraska. Everyone enjoyed the Circus and Milton would like to thank everyone that helped with the selling of Novelties.

The next fundraiser for the Shrine will be the St. Patrick’s corned beef and cabbage which needs every Noble’s support.

Arbor Shrine Club will be selling onions again this year as a fundraiser. Look for the ad in this Hot Sands to place your prepaid order. Remember to get your onion order in early because the onions sell out early.

The parade season for Arbor Shrine Club will be starting soon and the schedule should be finalized soon. The Firetruck with it’s rebuild motor and transmission will be ready and the Club plans to have more little cars parading this year. If any Club Member of Arbor Shine has an interest in parading a car, please contact any Officer of the Club.

The Club members celebrating birthdays during March are Kenny Cole the 27th, Brownie Brown the 28th, Jerry McMurphy the 29th, and Jan Larson the 31st.

Arbor Shrine Club is still looking for Nobles to join the Club and join the fellowship.

ChantersBy: Bernie HauberLast month, the Chanters were

honored to sing at the American Heroes (Membership) Banquet during the 160th Nebraska Grand Lodge AF&AM Annual Communication on February 3 in Kearney. We received compliments from many members and dignitaries. Our accompanist, Kim Hansen, was praised not only for her musical skills but also for her ability to do that while controlling the keyboard that tried to bounce off the stage. In addition, we performed at the Conference of Grand Masters of North America in La Vista on February 20. We all know that February 16 through 19 was the Tangier Shrine Circus and was held for a third successful year at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. The Chanters provided direction (ushering?) and helped with the National Anthem as usual. Now let me introduce you to one of our members:

Noble Jim Carlton has been our treasurer since 2011. Jim was raised in Bellevue Lodge in 1990, and served as Worshipful Master in 1995 and again in 2012. He joined Scottish Rite in 1996 and has been awarded the 32nd degree KCCH. Jim joined Tangier Shrine and the Chanters in 1996 and has served as our captain. He is a member of the York Rite bodies, the National Sojourners, and the Order of the Eastern Star. Jim was named DeMolay Nebraska Mason of the Year for 2011. He is current President of the Masonic Youth Foundation of Nebraska and Board Member of the Masonic Community Center Foundation.

We, the Chanters, want to congratulate Jim Carlton for being installed as Grand Senior Deacon of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska A.F. & A.M. on February 4, 2017.

The Chanters are Shrine Masons from a variety of backgrounds, with a variety of talents and interests, and, like Jim, with a variety of accomplishments. Most of us are not professional singers and most of us do not have “perfect pitch.” We just enjoy singing, having fun and helping others as we go. Please consider joining us. The larger the group the better the sound produced.

We welcome any noble with a joy for singing. Just contact any Chanter or just stop by on Mondays around 7:00 pm at the Shrine Center. That’s my update for March.

“The singer has everything within him. The notes come out from his very life. They are not materials gathered from outside.” Rabindranath Tagore (Nobel Prize Winner)

ClownsBy: Russ Ovens AKA FabI want to thank all of the Clowns and their

ladies that came out to help with the Super Bowl party. Thank you for making it a success once again.

What a fantastic Circus! This is my favorite time of the year, being able to see all the smiles we put on all of the children’s faces. I can’t wait to brag about what a wonderful turnout we will have had for the Circus in the next edition. I want to thank everyone for coming together as a Clown family and making everything run so smoothly.

We will be having Pizza Ranch starting back up in March; we are looking at doing it two times a month.

I just wanted to let you all know that we have a great opportunity to get us out there in the community in March. We have been asked to clown at Mayor Jean Stothert’s meet and greet. There will be more on this at our next meeting. Friday March 3, at 7:00 pm. Hope to see you all there.

I also want to thank all of the guys that stepped up and went to the Hy-Vee stores and clowned, and a thank you to the guys that went out and clowned at the zoo to help promote for the Circus. I could not do this without any of you by my side. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

Yours always FAB!

By: Jim Turpen, Circus Chair

I would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to all the Clubs and Units and Nobles and Ladies who worked those long and hard hours to make our 88th Circus such a huge success. Teamwork is the name of the game and the foundation of Tangier.

Thanks as well to all our bicycle donors, there are some very happy kids out there and new supporters of Tangier.

By all accounts, everything went well and without any major snags. Your Circus Committee will soon be reviewing all aspects of this year’s Circus and looking ahead to the 89th edition. This year we have made a concerted effort to track the return on all the different initiatives and expenditures we have made in order to collect data that will enable us to evaluate the impact of our activities and related them back to ticket sales. The circus appreciation dinner was super and provided another opportunity to thank all of you for your hard work. Thanks as well to the Divan for their support and enthusiasm throughout the past year. Your presence, and that of your Ladies at our meetings, the Hy-Vee gigs, and other promos was greatly appreciated.

Director’s StaffBy: Don Larson

The Directors Staff has had a very busy month of February. They served for Hamburger night on the 8th, helped set up the Shrine Circus, sold novelties during the Circus, and then hosted the annual Mardi Gras party on the 25th. I would like to give a big thank you to all of the Directors Staff Nobles and Staffettes Ladies for supporting all of these events and all of the other Clubs and Units for supporting the Mardi Gras party. I am sure everyone had a wonderful time.

The next event will be the annual Tangier corned beef and cabbage event on St Patrick’s Day. The Directors Staff will be helping with the drive through and I know the support from the Nobles and Staffers will be just as good.

Parade season is just around the corner and the Directors Staff will be back with the Hearse and trailer and hopefully the little chopper bikes.

The Directors Staff is always looking for Nobles to join. We meet the fourth Monday of the month at Tangier in the lower level at 7:00 pm. Come and check the unit out.

SDA is coming soon. If anyone is interested in attending, please contact the Director for details.

Daughtersof the Nile

By: Queen Cheryl Elliott

Election of new officers is fast approaching and my year as the reigning queen will be complete. I have been so honored and proud to represent Sat-ra Temple No. 59 throughout this year. I want to thank the current elected officers, Samantha Gunn, Gena Brimmer, and Karen Clopton for their hard work to help us have another successful year. A special thank you goes out to Princess Banker Angie Larsen and Princess Recorder Barb Gray PQ as they retire from these positions and many years of dedicated service.

I also want to thank all the past queens, appointed officers, and ladies of the household for stepping up to do your part to keep our Temple running. I so truly appreciate all the help and support given by all our members. I have also had wonderful help from all the Nobles and Ladies of Tangier Shrine. I hope that I have not forgotten to mention anyone because we cannot function successfully without all the volunteer help given so unselfishly.

It is exciting to know that Sat-ra Temple’s philanthropy or “Love of Humanity” for the Shriners Hospitals for Children has raised millions of dollars since 1931. This summer Cathy Carol Rose, Supreme Queen of the Supreme Temple, Daughters of the Nile, presented a check for over $1.7 million to Jerry Gantt, Imperial Potentate of Shriners International, at the recent 2016 Imperial Session. The total donation to the Shriners Hospitals for Children for the 2015 fiscal year was over $3.1 million.

On March 2nd at 1:00 pm we will have election of officers, followed by a short reception in the main room. Election Night Dinner will start at 6:00 pm at Spaghetti Works in Ralston. Please make your reservations with Samantha Gunn at 402-541-4820. Installation of Officers will be March 19th at 2:00 pm at the Scottish Rite Building. This installation is open to the public and we hope to see you there. Remember: “No act of kindness, no matter how small, goes unnoticed” - Aesop

Corvette ClubBy: Pete Larson, PresidentFebruary marked another successful

Tangier Shrine Circus at the Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs. I am sure that everyone who attended enjoyed the ANIMALS and the many acts. I also wish to thank all the members of the Corvette Club and their ladies, who helped sell novelties at the Circus.

Many thanks go out to all the Corvette Club members, who assisted in serving the dinners for the Tangier stated meeting in February.

Also, a great big thank you goes out to Keith “Top Down” Kortright, Bill “Sully” Sullivan and the rest of the TCC kitchen crew, who prepared the delicious broasted chicken for the February TCC Meeting.

Put March 17 on your calendars for the Corned Beef & Cabbage Dinner. This meal is annually prepared by many of the Nobles who volunteer countless hours to prepare one of the best Corned Beef & Cabbage meals in Omaha, bar none! As always, a number of the Tangier Corvette Club members will undoubtedly step up to help man the drive-thru lane for the scrumptious Corned Beef & Cabbage takeout meals.

With the advent of the warmer weather coming upon us both in our dreams and in true life, it is time to dust off the tops of your convertibles, T-tops, and hardtops and prepare for the upcoming parade season. Our club does not practice figure eights or elliptical configurations for the parades, but we do attempt to drive in a straight line! As you can see, it does not take a great amount of skill to drive a Corvette in a parade (just in case anyone who is interested in joining our club was concerned about the skill level needed to become a member)!

REMEMBER – the TCC is looking for a few new members who own a parade-worthy Corvette. The club meets at Tangier Shrine Center at 6:00 pm the second Monday of every month. Please contact Pete Larson at (402) 659-5960 or email him at: [email protected] if you would like more information about becoming a Tangier Corvette Club Member.

Until next time, keep your top & windows down when it is warm and sunny, but UP when you go through the car wash!

Top of the morning to you! A favorite greeting in Ireland. St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, is the day you can pretend you are Irish – wear something “Irish” green, and attend the Corned Beef and Cabbage Feed at the Shrine Center.

The Golden Girls will gather for their monthly luncheon on Tuesday, March 14. Same time and place – twelve noon in the lower level (Oasis room) of the Shrine Center.

Margaret Kirby will be celebrating her birthday this month on the 26th. Happy, Happy Birthday Margaret.

One other thing all countries in the world have besides clocks is museums. We have in our back yard a very unique museum. The only one of its kind – Leila’s Hair Museum. The wreaths, bouquets, and pieces of jewelry in her museum are made from woven strands of human hair Leila Cohoon began collecting in 1949. It is located in Independence, Missouri at 1333 South Nolan Road.

See you at the Corned Beef and Cabbage Feed. Until next month.

P.S. Most human beings are collectors. Think you’ll agree.

MARCH 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”

Golf LeagueBy: Bill ‘Sully’ SullivanI hope everyone has enjoyed the

off season and are ready for some enjoyable time on the golf course. League play for 2017 will begin on Thursday April 27 at Elmwood Golf Course, and will continue for 20 weeks with two weeks off for the Moila Tournament (July 13-16) and CSSA (August 30 - September 3).

The league is in need of new players. Please consider joining or continuing to be a member of the League. Due to age and recent expirations, we are in need of additional players. Any Mason or Shriner, in good standing, interested in joining the league who is available to play Thursdays at 3:30pm sharp is welcome. Help your Shrine club, unit, or Lodge organize a team. Teams of 4 players play at Elmwood golf course on Thursdays @ 3:30pm beginning April 27, but a full team of 6 members allows scheduling around necessary absences. Contact me or Pete Larson if you have interest in playing.

An attempt will be made to contact each league player from last year to verify their plans to continue playing in the league this year. If you have not been contacted, please contact Sully regarding your decision so we can determine the number of new players needed to fill each team. Also, please contact Sully if team rosters or captains are expected to change.

Players joining the league must be dedicated and committed to arriving on time and playing each week they are scheduled to play. All players must be in good standing with their Blue Lodge (and the Shrine if a Shriner), and pay for the full season up-front so they have a vested interest in participating when scheduled.

Howdy Cuzins! How ya’ll doin? Hope you and yours are startin to thaw out. A big thanks to everyone that attended the Circus last month and helped make it a great success. What a fun time too! We’ve got so much stuff going on, I can hardly keep up with it all.

I hope ya’ll had a great time at the Hillbilly Christmas party on February 10th. Thanks to the Vittle Fixer Mike Gardner for a great meal! The ham was delicious. Also, we had our elections at the Christmas party. Congratulations to Mike on his new position as Hillbilly Secretary! Thank you for stepping up to help out Clan #98. I’m sure Ms. Cheryl will lend you a hand… once and awhile. The rest of the incumbent officers got suckered into doin it again. Congrats to them and their ladies for volunteering.

Don’t forget the Tangier Corned Beef and Cabbage is coming up! This year St. Pat’s falls on March 17th, it’s a Friday too. Please try to take a couple of hours an help out if you can. It’s always a good time. The other important event is the Potentate’s Ball being held on March 25th. Dust off your best duds and come on out and celebrate with Jimmy and Harriet. The food and dancing is going to be a blast.

We also have the upcoming Spring Hillbilly Ceremonial. It’s scheduled for Saturday, April 15th! SAVE THE DATE! One of the big changes we started last year was doing the ceremonial at Tangier! We have some other neat ideas too. This is gonna be a heck of a hootenanny! Of course we are going to need lots of help for this event too. So if you can help out, that would be greatly appreciated. Please mark it on your calendar and tell all your friends. Along with the great vittles, we are looking to be changing a few things up this year too. Its gunna be a fun time!

If you have any ideas you’d like to share, please get ahold of one of the HB officers. My email is [email protected]. We appreciate your input. Please keep an eye on the Hot Sands and computer mail for more info on the Spring Ceremonial.

Sweet Cheeks and I hope you and your family are having a great 2017! Ain’t it great to be a hillbilly!

What a success the Tangier Circus was, thank you Bob Krause and company for all the time you give to the Shrine.

The friendship dinner was well attended by future nobles, which brings us to have us look for new members. Without them, we will see our numbers decrease. So, let’s work hard and bring new ones.

What a warm February it was. The thoughts of warm weather, of an earlier spring tells us to get our convertibles ready for the year! I hope the warm weather continues and will allow us to get our golf clubs out of storage.

The annual Pote’s Roast will be April 3rd so come and enjoy the fun. Maybe we can get a group and reserve a table. Let me know.

I would like to thank my friend, noble Jim Reese from Mervin Reese Photography for getting this article to the Hot Sands for publishing. For quality portraits, give them a call.

Our meetings will start this coming month, April 3rd at Brother Sebastian’s. Our captain, Tom Upton will let us know what he’s got planed for the year. Hopefully he will have a golf outing for us, who knows. So plan on attending the meeting, which will start at 6:30

Greg Easley was sitting at the bar staring at his drink when a large, trouble-making biker stepped up next to him, grabbed his drink and gulped it down in one swig and menacingly said, “Thanks, Jew Boy, whatcha gonna do about it?”

Greg burst into tears. “Come on, man,” the biker said, “I didn’t

think you’d CRY. I can’t stand to see a man cry. What’s your problem?”

“This is the worst day of my life,” Greg said. “I’m a complete failure. I was late to a meeting and my boss fired me. When I went to the parking lot, I found my car had been stolen and I don’t have any insurance., I left my wallet in the cab I took home. I found my wife in bed with the postman. So, I came to this bar to work up the courage to put an end to it all. I Bought a drink- dropped a capsule in it and was sitting here watching the poison dissolve-- then you showed up and drank the whole thing! But enough about me, how’s your day going?”

MARCH 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”

Legion of HonorBy: Jeremy M. Martin,

CommanderWow! February was such a

busy month for LoH, but March will be a little more relaxed. Lady Courtney and I would like to thank the entire Fez ball committee members who put forth a great effort in making the Fez ball a success. It was great to see everyone come out and have a good time! I would like to take this moment and thank Past Commander Dale Nelson for a job well done in 2016. Thank you Dale, I will be looking to you for guidance throughout my time as Commander in 2017.

I would also like to thank everyone who came out to help with the Circus. Great job everyone, especially the Ladies! Without you, LoH would fall apart at its seams; but, you know this already! If you haven’t noticed, we are starting to get closer and closer to April 9th. What is important about April 9th you might ask? It is biscuits and gravy time again! LoH members, start looking for your biscuits and gravy tickets in the mail. Also, get out and sell, sell, sell! If anyone would like to go to the biscuits and gravy feed, please contact a LoH member for tickets!

I would also like to thank 1st Lt Commander Mike Billquist in taking the project of getting LoH some new work shirts. This is something the unit hasn’t had for a while and you have done a great job with getting the leg work done on it in a very short amount of time.

If anyone is interested in joining the LoH, our meetings are on the 1st Tuesday of the month at 7:00 pm, downstairs at the Shrine. Come on down and meet the gang!

By: Jan Moore

Hi from warm and sunny Arizona. Went to Tubac today for an arts festival. Happened to see one of our kids. She had just returned from Spokane Hospital and her seventh surgery. She was selling greeting cards she had drawn. I had a senior moment and forgot to buy one. The lady interpreting for her thanked us (Shriners) for everything we do. She called us a ray of sunshine in the kids’ lives. Nice to hear.

At the last business meeting we voted to hold business meetings at 10:00 am rather than at 1:00 pm. We will gather about 9:30 and start meeting at 10:00. We are hoping this will allow for more people to attend. Also if appointments have to be scheduled you will know that you can do so without missing the meeting.

Please save can tabs. The money made is used to refurbish and buy wheelchairs. Toiletries are needed for the hygiene bags that the kids receive. T-shirts, crew socks, and gift cards are always appreciated.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day to you, may the luck of the Irish be with you. Be kind to one another and I will talk to next month.

Mobile NoblesBy: Dave StolpAs I put pen to paper

on this beautiful day in February (50 degrees & sunny) I am reminded that parade season is fast approaching. “Old 357” is undergoing some cosmetic maintenance at this time. The train did not make an appearance at the Circus this year, but many of our members were busy helping other units and clubs. Big thanks to all!

We are proud to welcome a new member to the Mobile Nobles. Our new member is Brad Graham and Lady Lisa. We are comfortable that these folks will serve our unit well. We may also be welcoming another new member next month.

Our March monthly meeting will be held at Tangier Saturday, March 4th at 11:00 am. Please plan to attend, if possible.

Our annual 357 Dinner will be held on March 11th at the Scottish Rite Temple.

The grand prize drawing is for $10,000 and there are five other cash drawings along with a delicious prime rib dinner. Attitude Adjustment is at 6:00 pm, dinner starts at 7:15. We are in need of members to help to set up the dinner room on Friday March 10th. Please plan to arrive at 5:00 pm.

That’s all for now. Please remember to support all Tangier units and clubs and our Hot Sands advertisers when you can. See you down the tracks.

Vintage IronBy: Jim JacobsonThanks, all that helped at the Circus. I

am sure everyone had good time. Looking forward, we will start dusting our cars off for Parades and a few Show and Shines.

Remember if you have a ‘75 or older American made car you can join Vintage iron. If you need help finding one just ask a VI member.

Corned Beef and Cabbage is March 23rd. I’m sure VI will be serving the to-go line downstairs.

Our next meeting is February 28th. The meetings are short and sweet and we haven’t seen a lot of you for a long time (that’s to make you feel guilty). No truly ,we would love to have all the old-timers and new members to come. I think you will have a very good meeting.

Keystone KopsBy: Capt. Randy “DONKEY” JaccaudGreetings fellow Keystone Kops, Kuties,

and those just interested in seeing what we Kops are up to. WOW! What a quick month February was, it doesn’t even seem like we’re done yet. First of all, thank you to all those who came out and promoted the Tangier Shrine Circus at the local area Hy-Vee stores. If you didn’t get a chance to come out, I hope you will consider making time next year. It’s always good to interact with the public and let them know what we are all about.

Speaking of Circus, was that an amazing Circus or what? The Kops and Kuties came out in full force. The Circus acts this year really brought in the crowds, and we didn’t disappoint with our crazy skit. The Kuties sold tons of novelties and we gave out hundreds of stickers, tickets and collector cards. Not to mention all the programs we signed. We broke in a few new members, literally I think, and had some pie. Thanks to everyone who came out, we could not do what we do without EVERYONE’S help.

What better way to cap off a month of hard work and great fun? A Mardi Gras Party! Thanks again to all the Keystone Kops and Kuties who packed the house at the Directors Staff party.

Now a new month brings new and exciting events. Saturday March 4th, that’s right just a few days away, is the 3rd Annual Roast the Past Potentate. I hope you got your tickets, as this will be the event everyone is talking about. There are lots more ways to help out and support the Shrine and other Clubs and Units. Just this month alone you can help with Corned Beef and Cabbage, slicing beef, making cookies, cleaning, busing tables. The Mobile Nobles 357 Dinner is on March 11th and don’t forget the Potentate’s Ball on March 25th. Lots of opportunity to get out and help out. Till next month...

Tangier BandBy: John HerbolsheimerThank you to everyone who

helped the band with our circus performances this year! We love having members of the community join us to put on two great shows every year. If you would like to be a part of the Tangier Band, stop by our regular business meeting/practice every 4th Thursday of the month. We’re always looking for band instrumentalists, and we can always use a few more brass, woodwind, and percussion players. Even if you think you’ve been out of practice for too long, sit in with us and you’ll be surprised at how quickly it all comes back to you! If you need an instrument, we might be able to find one for you. If you are interested, please contact John Herbolsheimer at [email protected] or Nathan Rolofson at [email protected].

Please continue to support the efforts and fund-raising activities of your local clubs, units and lodges.

MARCH 2017TANGIER “HOT SANDS”

Motor BBy: Ed HatterFinally, we are getting

some nice weather to be able to get the bikes out and get a little riding in. The Shrine Circus is in the history records with another success. Thanks to all the Motor B and Corvette Club members that helped this year.

We are back to having our monthly meetings at the Farmhouse Cafe at 3461 South 84th Street for a couple months. Then we are hitting the road for Dinner Ride meetings, starting in May. We will pick some of the finest restaurants within a 30 to 45 minute ride to find the best hamburgers, chicken fried steak, and fries.

We are starting to plan some weekend rides, so if you have any ideas, let us know and we will try to get them on the calendar. Last year we went to Pioneer Village, which was a blast. We also rode to the car show in West Point, I have my lodging reserved for Sturgis, which is always fun. I am also headed to Montana this summer to ride Bear Tooth pass and Chief Joseph Highway, and maybe see if I can work in a trip to the Black Hills.

If you have a motorcycle or have an interest in motorcycles. We have all kind of bikes in our unit, so don’t think you have to ride a Harley. Feel free call or email at [email protected] or any of us with questions.

Ride safely and watch out for motorcycles.

Road RunnersBy: Stanley GarnerTangier Road Runners

made nine trips to the Shriners Hospital for Children – Twin Cites in January, transporting ten patients. Three trips were canceled due to severe weather forecasts. Eleven patients traveled to Minneapolis by private conveyance, and one patient traveled to the St Louis Hospital. Six patients were transported to Chicago by commercial flight.

At our January 14 Road Runner meeting, certificates of appreciation were awarded to: George Eckert, for 50,000 miles of “patient” driving, and to Jim Gathmann for 100,000 miles of “patient” driving. Congratulations to both.

Drivers for January included: M. Dreier, P. Rowland, R. DeWell, M. Burke, D. Deming, D. Robinson, H. Fouts, J. Riddle, J. Gathmann, R. Krause, P. Pilakowski, C. Crawford, N. ODonnell and P. White.

Keep up the “patient” driving!

Circus! What else says it better?Mo-Ri is happy to welcome new members

Rocky & Melinda Pulley, and Tyler & Tracey Goodman to our group. Both couples will lend additional talent and leadership to the Best Shrine Club in Tangier.

There are many events on our calendar coming out of the end of February and heading into June. Mo-Ri should have a great group of workers to help out with the Tangier Corn Beef Feed on March 17, as well as the lead-up events to this worthy Tangier fundraiser.

On April 9th, Mo-Ri will again, for the 44th time, be teaming up with Washington Lodge 21 located in Blair at 1245 Calhoun Road to host the Annual Palm Sunday Community Breakfast at the Blair Lodge. The serving time is 7:30 am until 12:30 pm with tickets at the door for $7.00. Guaranteed to be the best breakfast, for the best price, anywhere around on that morning. Pancakes off the round cooker, fresh fluffy scrambled eggs, secret recipe sausage, juice, and coffee-all brought to you by the Mo-Ri Nobles & Ladies working in unison with the Lodge members and ladies. Need tickets? See a Mo-Ri Member.

MO-RI Shrine Bowl UnitBy Tom Erickson, Secretary

Greetings from the Shrine Bowl Unit. Congratulations to John Golden our new commander for the next two years. We know John will do a great job! A quick thanks to Tim Bernet who just finished his term as commander and we really appreciate his leadership and dedication.

February saw the last of our Big Red Dinners, one of our biggest fundraisers, and it was another successful year. Rob Kuhl did a nice job setting up some really quality speakers for each the five dinners. If you haven’t attended one, they are on the third Thursday of September, October, November, January, and February. We serve a fantastic prime rib with a great baked potato.

With March comes spring and we are looking forward to the St Patrick’s Day Feed. Shortly after, preparations for the Shrine Bowl game in June go into full swing.

If interested, any noble is more than welcome to attend our meeting to learn about our unit. We meet on the second Tuesday of each month downstairs at Tangier. Dinner is at 6:30 and the meeting starts at 7:00.

Hospital FloatBy: Mike Donham

The highlight activity for Tangier and the Hospital Float Unit will be the March 17th Corned Beef and Cabbage fundraiser. Please support Tangier and the unit members at the carry out entrance by signing up for a work shift.

We are still looking for a buyer for the old float trailer. If you have an interest or know of someone, please contact Mike Donham 402-558-9032 or Noble Ken Nisley.

The following Nobles and Ladies will celebrate March birthdays: Nobles Don Harrington and Todd Davison and Lady Carol Hale. Please join with me in wishing them a Happy Birthday.

Under sickness and distress – Noble Mike Donham is recovering from a Total Knee Replacement. Noble Marv and Lady Renee Kovar are both recuperating from falls. We wish each of them a speedy recovery!

Congratulations to Noble John Hanslip and Lady Kristal on the birth of a baby girl. This little one is also the Great-granddaughter of Marvin and Renee Kovar.
