Ahhh Summer – too

much going on at BYSC

to list here, so I won’t try.

As I said last month, with

so many varied activities

comes countless different

ways to get yourself

involved as a participant and/or as a supporting

volunteer, and I hope each of you will.

My thoughts this month turn to

SUNSCREEN !!! As I am personally dealing

with having yet another carcinoma removed (this

one a squamous cell), I strongly encourage the

liberal and frequent use of sunscreen when

outside – particularly when on our in the water.

It is your club – come enjoy it - Chuck

Hey Ya’ll,

It’s Summertime! School is out and the place is

jumping. Camp kicks off next week and there will

be a lot if little Critters on the property. Please be

mindful when backing up trailers and driving

around the property. As parking will be tight on

some weekends, please don’t hesitate to ask one of

the staff the best place to park your trailer. The

Low Country Regatta is coming up fast, mark

your calendar for the weekend of June 20th.

Please contact the office to find out volunteer op-

portunities.

Don’t forget to stop by to get your photo taken for

your membership ID card. We will also accept your photos for consideration if we are able to resize to fit. Stop by the office—Renee is here with her camera Monday—Thursday from 10 Am—3 PM.

Junior Sailing Learn to Sail Camp is

underway! LTS instruc-

tors are working hard to

teach beginner, interme-

diate and advanced stu-

dents. You’ll see them

out there most days enjoying the wind and the sun

with a great group of youngsters.

Two of our Learn to Sail Instructors were the only

applicants from our area accepted to the Brooke Gon-

zalez Clinic this summer. Drummond Koppernaes was

selected in the laser radial division. Patrick Mazzeo

(skipper) & Travis Tucker (crew, LNYC) were accept-

ed in the Club 420 class. Participants to the clinic are

evaluated based on resume from a highly competitive

field. This year they turned away over half of the ap-

plicants.

The clinic is usually taught by Olympic and College

coaches. Patrick & Drummond hope to bring back

some of the tips they learn at the clinic to the sailors

they will be working with this summer in Beaufort.

RACING

The Lowcountry Regatta on June

21-22 is fast approaching. This is

our biggest sailing event of the

year and should be a great time

again. Walt Gnann is Regatta

Chairman. If you haven’t

registered on line yet please do. A

larger number of boats shown on

the pre-registration list shows

potential visitors that there will be a good turnout and influence

them to also sign up. Pre-register on the club website at

www.byscnet.com.

We have approximately 45 volunteers on the water ready to meet

the sailors and put on a great series. There will be three race

courses-the North course, headed up by John Barber, with JY15’s,

Lasers, Sunfish and 420’s; the South course, chaired by Wayne

Bretsch, with the MC Scows, Sea Island One Designs, Lightnings

and Snipes; and the Optimist course, headed up by Commodore

Chuck Rushing, with multiple classes of the Opti kids.

Non-sailors and non-members are welcome to attend the

Lowcountry Boil dinner on Saturday night-just make reservations

and pay on-line or at registration and pay. If you are on race com-

mittee working on Saturday your dinner is at no charge but you

would need to make a reservation for your spouse.

I hope ya’ll have been enjoying the new Saline Chlorinated Swimming Pool. It has saved the club some money on chemicals as well as being a little easier on the eyes and skin. I’m glad we where able to make things that much nicer. I have seen a lot of people out there since school let out and we are so glad to see that. If you want to book a pool party please call the office at least a week in advance.

The Pool is now open for regular hours 9am-7pm Mon-Saturday and 12 pm-7pm Sundays. Join the ladies for water aerobics—call the office for information!
