BAC Projects First Semester 2010 – 2011

General Registration | Restart Your Way to the Top General Registration for the first semester enrolment for school year 2010 – 2011 served as an opportunity for the BAC to update the different batch database and to collect the Php 80 council fee which funded the different BAC projects for the semester. It also became the avenue for the different Batch Representatives to collect donations and to inform their batch mates about the different activities and events in store for them in the upcoming semester. The General Registration helped out the RVC team by creating room signs and labels which guided the students during the enrolment. The AuxCorps Recruitment, Locker Rentals and College and Batch Surveys were also done during the General Registration. During the first semester general registration, the BAC had a collection rate of more than 95%.

BAC Special Project Head Due to its successful run last year, the BAC continued its Special Project Head system which aims to empower CBA students by inviting them to become non-BAC project heads. This project not only benefits the BAC by having additional manpower and skills in organizing and implementing its planned projects, it also provides an avenue for students to gain experience related to project management and working in teams. The Special Project Head system has continued to attract more and more involvement from the CBA students proven by the increase of special project heads from the 20 students last year to the 31 students in the first semester of the school year. Executive Council Team Building (ExeCoun TBS) ExeCoun TBS was a venue for all the organization heads including the BAC to gather and talk about issues involving the BA-based organizations and all its members. Hosted by the BAC, it served as a planning session for the ExeCoun for the upcoming semester. This semester’s ExeCoun TBS was an overnight event that took place in the Riverview Hotel in Antipolo and was attended by more than 30 members of the ExeCoun. During this event, members were able to discuss about their upcoming projects such as the implementation and funding of the ExeCoun Rat Extermination Project, the celebration and organization of ExeCoun Week, the commitment and participation in the BAC Cleanliness Campaign and many more. The first semester ExeCoun TBS also became an opportunity for the new members of the ExeCoun to get to know more about the people that they will be working with in the upcoming year.

EXECOUN Week 2010 The BAC, together with the other members of the ExeCoun, organized this year’s ExeCoun Week. The project took place simultaneously with the Recruitment and Reaffirmation weeks of the BA-based organizations. The week officially started with a launch which also marked the start of the R&R weeks of the organizations. All the organization booths were designed with the unified theme of travelling and airport destinations. The BAC also placed an information booth during the week that served as a guide for the students most especially the new applicants. Aside from the

whole week celebration, ExeCoun Week 2010 also featured a “Grand Pakain” for the students which catered to more than 300 students. There was also a photo booth organized during the event that captured the ExeCoun Week experience of the students.

Fourth Floor Rat Extermination Project (EXECOUN Project) One of the concerns brought up during past ExeCoun meetings was the rat infestation of the fourth floor student center. In-line with the goal of the BAC to ensure cleanliness and order in the college, the BAC together with the other members of the ExeCoun initiated the Rat Extermination Project which covered the whole fourth floor of the college. Headed by the BAC, a rat extermination expert was hired to assess and solve the infestation problem of the student center.

Cleanliness Campaign | BAClean For this year’s Cleanliness Campaign, the BAC made sure to get all the organizations involved in the implementation of the rules and procedures of the campaign. The BAC headed a formal discussion with the organizations which resulted to the establishment of the rules and procedures to be followed by all the organizations. To ensure participation and commitment from the BA-based organizations, the BAC created a Memorandum of Agreement which was signed by all the organization heads. Some of the procedures established were the 10-point checklist system that should be maintained in the tambayans and the everyday cleanliness check-up of the Vice-Chairperson. The average weekly grades of the different tambayans were posted in the ExeCoun group and were sent to Ma’am Talavera of the CBA Administration. As a result of these efforts, the cleanliness and order of the fourth floor student center has been properly maintained through-out the whole semester. Together with the campaign implemented in the student center, the BAClean also launched an information drive that aimed to educate and enlighten the CBA students regarding cleanliness and order of the college. The information campaign was exhibited by the different attention-grabbing posters and teasers posted all around the college including the comfort rooms. Freshmen Orientation | On-Board! The CBA Freshie Orientation The CBA Freshie Orientation is a half-day programme that aimed to welcome students to the college and to introduce them to the culture of CBA – the things they need to know about the college, the BA Student Council and AuxCorp as well as all the other BA-based organizations. Through interactive talks, fun games and exciting activities, this project jumpstarted the school year by making the freshmen feel they truly belong. This year’s theme highlighted the start of a new adventure for the CBA freshies. With Treasure Island as inspiration, this year’s tagline was “Start your adventure. Find your treasure in BA!”

Shiftee Orientation | aBAtar: Discovering a New World The CBA Shiftee Orientation is an annual project of the BAC exclusively for the benefit of the newly accepted shiftees. It aimed to welcome some of our college’s newest family members and to help them adjust and cope up faster in their new environment. The project introduced the shiftees to the culture and atmosphere of CBA as well as to the BAC, Aux Corp and the BA-based organizations. Moreover, the Shiftee Orientation helped them get to know the CBA community and to meet new friends in their new home.

UP CBA Business Week 2010 Think BIG: Thought Leadership in the Philippine Business Environment In-line with the BAC’s goal of providing activities that will enrich and complement the academic growth of CBA students, the BAC organized the 3rd CBA Business Week with the general theme of “Entrepreneurial Thought Leadership”. This was a whole-week affair with the aim of challenging CBA students to think beyond what is called for and find ways to engage their peers in collaborative effort. Its main objective was for the CBA community to learn, share, and develop business knowledge and take inspiration from the stories of the country’s innovative thinkers who are now the best business leaders in the country. Thinking BIG is about presenting the different entrepreneurial opportunities and revitalizing the Filipino spirit of enterprise. The following are the different events that took place during this year’s Business Week:

The Big Exhibit and The Big Surprise | Gallery and Launch | September 14 – 17 The Big Exhibit was a week-long gallery display that provided excitement and enthusiasm which accompanied the celebration of Business Week 2010. It aimed to bring an eye-catching and interactive environment featuring value-adding information and trivia about different well-known entrepreneurs and innovative thinkers in the country that a CBA student shouldn't dare miss. The Big Surprise was a short, festive launching event that ushered in the celebratory mood for Business Week. It also served as the grand unveiling of the Gallery.

The Big Break | The Business Week-Long Game | September 14 – 17

The Big Break was a deviation from the usual one and a half hour game or quiz show which has been the traditional event during Business Week. The Big Break was a 3-day event of activities which included a batch scavenger hunt and a group culminating presentation. This change in the project aimed to involve a wider scope of CBA students and faculty alike. It imparted to the participants both a fun and challenging learning experience. All of the activities of the game aimed to further the knowledge of the contestants regarding Entrepreneurship.

B.I.G: Business Idea Generation | The Academic Competition | August 6 – September 18 In partnership with the Ayala Foundation - Technology Business Incubator, the B.I.G.: Business Idea Generation was an academic competition with the theme of “Innovative Solutions to Social Problems.” This competition was open to all students of all levels from all over the University. It aimed to utilize the skills that the students have learned within the classroom as well as to promote the spirit of social responsibility and entrepreneurship. Coming from the different sectors of the country such as Social Enterprise, Idea Generation, Retail and Fashion, Information Technology and Franchising, they presented the different entrepreneurial opportunities that were identified from these promising markets. BACBACAN 1 | The Elders Have Spoken The most anticipated event of the year by all CBA students, this year’s BACBACAN 1, which was held on August 7 and 14, has truly lived-up to everyone’s expectations. More than 500 students, from all the five batches, have participated in the different events which included Cheerdance Competition, Mr. and Ms. BACBACAN, Men’s and Women’s Basketball, Mixed Volleyball, Futsal and Parlor Games. Organized by the BAC every year, BACBACAN 1 aims to foster camaraderie and friendship among the different batches of the college as well as to provide a fun and exciting avenue for all CBA students where they can develop and enhance their athletic and sport skills.

OrgPres | TOON IT UP! OrgPres Digitized ORGPRES is the annual competition between the CBA-based organizations. It aimed to showcase the talents and creativity of the different organizations through song-and-dance production numbers. More than just a talent competition, the BAC envisioned this event to be a venue for interaction between members of the different organizations, thereby fostering an atmosphere of unity and camaraderie. Through the years, there has been evidential evolution in the world of CGI animation. With this, the BAC brought the whole community to an out-of-this-world experience. Given the theme computer-generated images, the organizations stretched their creativity and traverse the thin line between imagination and reality.

Socially Relevant Project | Bank on Books for the benefit of YES Pinoy Foundation With the BAC’s vision of providing more socially relevant projects to the CBA, the BAC launched its first semester’s SRP entitled “Bank on Books Campaign” which was for the benefit of the Yes Pinoy Foundation. This project aimed to provide a convenient way for the CBA students to help out and give back to the society. The project involved a month long collection of new and old books from the students that will be donated to the Yes Pinoy foundation. In order to further encourage student participation, the BAC made it an inter-batch competition. The Juniors, which was the winning batch, won a Pizza Party courtesy of the BAC. As a show of support from the foundation, its founder Mr. Dingdong Dantes graced the awarding of the Bank on Books Campaign which was held during BACBACAN 1. All-in-all the BAC was able to collect more than a thousand books for the foundation.

Skills Workshop | Making Sense as a Public Speaker featuring Mr. Francis Kong The Skills Workshop is an initiative of the BAC that aims to provide BA students with valuable knowledge and additional training in various necessary skill sets not emphasized in the academic curriculum. More than just improving academic performance, the Skills Workshop seeks to increase the competitive advantage of UP CBA students in preparation for success in the corporate world. For this semester, the skills workshop focused on the topic of Public Speaking. The event which was entitled “Making Sense as a Public Speaker” was facilitated by Mr. Francis Kong, a well-known international speaker and lecturer, and was attended by more than 100 students.

College Assembly | BA Speak BA Speak is the semestral college assembly of the CBA. It is a forum involving the BA administration, student council and student body that serves as a venue to properly and formally discuss and address some issues, announcements and concerns regarding the college. It aims to create collaboration between these three parties by providing an efficient and professional avenue for communication of the whole college. This semester’s college assembly was attended by more than 50 students from different batches and by four members of the administration which includes Dean Gutierrez, Mr. Manuel, Dr. Talavera and Mr. Jonas. BAC Health Campaign The BAC Health Campaign aimed to ensure the holistic development of students through a series of activities that promote total wellness of the body. Through increased awareness and involvement in meaningful activities, the student body was given concrete means to balance fitness with other student endeavours. All these focused on empowering students to take a proactive stance towards total wellness. Some of the activities held under the BAC Health Campaign were the regular CBA running group, the distribution of Calorie Count Cards and a free health check-up courtesy of students from the College of Human Kinetics.

BA Support For better facilitation and monitoring, the BA Support Project was divided into three main divisions - varsity support, opportunities and competitions. The Varsity Support division focused on the CBA athletes who regularly compete and represent the college in different sports competition such as the Diliman games. The Opportunities division aimed to provide CBA students about upcoming seminars, corporate competitions, scholarships or internship programs which they can avail of during the semester. The Competitions division was the one responsible for informing the CBA population about the different academic competitions participated in by our college through the release of support and

congratulatory posters and text brigs. All these ensured that the CBA student is fully supported in all aspects - sports, academics, opportunities and competitions.

Aux Corps Projects | AUX Revitalized The BAC Auxiliary Corps play a vital role in the

execution of the projects of the BAC. They are CBA students who volunteer their time and energy to help out with the different BAC projects. It is through Aux Corps that the BAC is able to make students learn and get to know more about how a BAC project is organized and implemented. To further empower the Aux Corp, the BAC assigned an over-all Aux Corp Head and a department head for each of the three departments (Publicity, Marketing and Logistics).

Aux Corps Recruitment Since membership in the Aux Corps is voluntary, the BAC holds recruitment for Aux Corp every start of the semester. The Recruitment process was held during the General Registration for the first semester. Aux Corp volunteers were also invited to attend the orientation seminars organized by the BAC. During this seminar, Aux Corp volunteers were informed about the different projects of the BAC for the semester and about the different available functions which they can help out.

BAC / AUX / SPH Team Building Seminar One of the goals of the council is to empower the Aux Corps in order for them to be inspired to run for office in the future. Due to this, the BAC created venues where the Aux Corps and Special Project Heads could get to learn more about the different activities and projects of the council. One of these activities

Page 9: BAC 2010-2011 Accomplishment Report

Business Administration Student Council

was the team building seminar for all the Aux Corp and Special Project Heads together with the BAC members. This seminar was an all-day event, full of activities and fun games that allowed the BAC, Special Project Heads and Aux Corp members to interact and get to know one another.

SPH and AUX Thanksgiving The SPH and AUX thanksgiving project was the way of the BAC to say thank you to all the people who have helped out in the different projects of the semester. Through a simple get-together, the different council members showed their appreciation by providing their Special Project Heads and Aux Corp small tokens of appreciation.

Career Options In partnership with the UP Career Assistance Program, Career Options was an information campaign project of the BAC which aimed to provide CBA students knowledge and facts about the different available careers both within and outside the corporate world. This project was established in the desire of the BAC to enlighten students that they should not be boxed-in with the typical jobs and work related to their courses. BAC Alumni Reunion

For the first time in so many years, the BAC hosted a reunion for all the past members of the BAC. With the goal of reviving and strengthening the relationship between the alumni and incumbent council members, the BAC invited old council members to a get-together dinner at Dencio’s Capitol. For the first time, more than 30 past and current council members got together to discuss and talk about the different upcoming projects of the council. This event truly opened up lines of communication between current and past councils which became very useful for the incumbent BAC.

BAC Issue Brief | In CBA, We Discuss. We Decide. We Deliver. In line with the goal of the BAC to inform students regarding relevant external issues, the BAC implemented the project entitled BAC Issue Brief. The BAC, headed by the Externals Councilor, organized a simple and efficient way of informing and gathering feedbacks from the students about issues concerning the university and the society. A BAC Issue Brief is a half-page information sheet which contains a summary of the issue as well as its pros and cons. This format gives the students a chance to get to know both sides of the story which allows them to form their own opinions about the issue. Some of the BAC Issue Briefs released this semester were about the Swearing in of Pres. Aquino, the Quirino Grandstand Hostage and the approval of the Student Code 2010. Bulletin and Publicity Boards As part of its responsibilities in the college, the BAC was in-charge of maintaining the bulletin and publicity boards located in the 3rd floor of the building. These boards played a big role in providing information and announcements to the student of the college. The BAC made sure that all bulletin boards are fully functional as well as creatively designed. Headed by the BAC publicity councilors, the bulletin boards for the first semester featured areas designated for the different BAC projects and councilor functions which were regularly updated during the semester.

Valix Book Sale Together with the UP JFA, the BAC organized a Valix Book Sale as one of its revenue-generating projects. The project not only aimed to provide additional funds for the council but also to help out the BAA students who are having a hard time acquiring their required copies of Valix books.

ThatOrg.Com | Student Org Portal In partnership with the UP Sigma Delta Phi, the BAC actively participated in the organization and promotion of the project called ThatOrg.com, a social-networking site that aims to integrate everything that a student needs in relation to his or her organizations. Its goal is to provide both students and organizations an easy means to access information and data related to UP organizations.

MBA Initiative The MBA initiative was a project of the BAC that aims to increase communication and interaction with the MBA students in line with the council's mission of serving the entire CBA community. This initiative included creating channels for better information dissemination to the MBA and providing value-adding projects that foster camaraderie and mutual benefit between the MBA and undergraduate students. As part of this project, the BAC helped the MBA students in organizing their MBA get-together party by providing assistance in the collection of their funds.

BAnyo Improvements In response to the growing concern of the students regarding the lack of locks and bag hooks in the CBA comfort rooms, the BAC installed new locks and bag hooks in all the comfort rooms from first to third floor. Aside from this, the BAnyo project also provided liquid hand soaps in the comfort rooms for the use of the students.

Mid-Semester BAC Evaluation As a way of evaluating and ensuring that the BAC was still on-track, the BAC held its mid-semester BAC evaluation. The goals of this project were to evaluate the projects of the BAC that were already accomplished and to review the performance of each of the council members. It was also during this time that the council reviewed the mid-semester survey answered by the students. This was necessary in order for the council to have a better insight on the needs and concerns of the college. Through this evaluation, the BAC, as a whole and as individuals, was able to identify the strengths that needed to be continued as well as the weaknesses that needed to be improved on. Mid-Semester and Sem-ender Survey As part of its feedback mechanism with the students, the Grievance and Feedback councilor conducted two college surveys during the semester. The goal of these surveys was for the council to know what the students think and feel about the college and the council. It was also during the surveys where students voiced out their concerns about the different issues or problems in the college. This semester, the BAC used an online survey in order to tap a wider reach of students. This innovation proved to be successful since more than 250 students answered the surveys.

CBA Text Brig System The CBA textbrig system is one of the ways that the BAC disseminates information to the students in the college. The textbrig system is utilized whenever there are emergency announcements such as cancellation of classes or for the promotion of any BAC, USC or other ba-based organizations events.

BAC Hotline This semester, the BAC launched the BAC hotline with the goal of making the council more accessible to the students. The BAC Hotline, which is monitored by the Grievance and Feedback councilor, is the formal contact number of the council. CBA students are free to text or call the number if they have concerns or problems at hand.

Locker Rentals Locker Rentals is one of the revenue-generating projects of the BAC. This project allows CBA students to rent out the fourth floor lockers in order for them to have a safe and secure place to store their things. This project was headed by the Logistics councilor.

LCD and Projector Screen Rentals The LCD and Projector Screen Rentals is one of the revenue-generating projects of the ExeCoun. Supervised by the Vice-Chairperson, this project provides CBA students easy access to the use of a projector and projector screen which they need during their classroom reports or organizational events.

BAC Projects Second Semester 2010 – 2011

General Registration General Registration for the second semester enrolment for school year 2010 – 2011 served as an opportunity for the BAC to update the different batch database and to collect the Php 80 council fee which funded the different BAC projects for the semester. During the second semester general registration, the BAC had a collection rate of more than 95%.

BAC and ExeCoun Constitution Amendment Given that this year is an amending year, the BAC pushed for a successful amendment and ratification of the BAC and Executive Council Constitutions. This Constitution Amendment aimed to correct all grammatical errors found in the constitution as well as to make certain changes that will make it more relevant and fitting to the current situation of the BAC and ExeCoun. Some of the amendments made were the addition of an official ExeCoun logo and the addition of clearer procedures to be followed during impeachment cases.

BA WEEK 2011 | Hiwaga ng Pasko sa Nobenta’y Quatro

BA Week is the time of the year when the college unites in festivity to celebrate CBA’s anniversary, its achievements and its legacy. Standing strong at 94, BA Week centralized on the theme Christmas, with each event pertaining to a specific value that the season promotes. First time to be celebrated in two weeks, this year’s BA Week was bigger and better reinventing the magic that Christmas brings while still maintaining the BA spirit.

Bukas Palad Project | Socially Relevant Project | December 6 The BAC’s Socially Relevant Project (SRP) for this semester circled around the theme of gift-giving and sharing love during the Christmas season. Payatas C Elementary School was chosen as the beneficiary because the BAC believes that Christmas is really something for children to enjoy. The BAC enlisted the help of the entire student body by posting the Christmas wish list of the selected kids and one by one, the BA students played the role of Santa Claus as they granted each of the kid’s wishes. The project culminated with a simple Christmas Party held at the Payatas C Elementary School where members of the college were invited to hold this special event with the children. The project brought smiles to the children as they received their gifts and Christmas gift packs and to the BA students as they saw how they could touch the lives of other people.

Paskong Pilipino, Paskong Purina | Grand Launch, Gallery and Photo Contest | December 7 - 16 The Gallery served as an avenue for council to project the events and highlights of the BA Week. With this year's theme of "Hiwaga ng Pasko sa Nobenta’y Kwatro", it became a celebration of the Filipino Christmas (Paskong Pilipino). Through the Gallery, the BA students were informed of the upcoming activities of the BA Week. The BA Gallery had a freedom wall for students to list down what their Christmas wishes were. Also, with the theme Paskong Purina, a photo competition for cat and dog owners was launched. Winners were awarded with a year’s supply of cat and dog food, proving that a Filipino family’s Christmas is not complete with the extended members of their family.

Sugar Rush | Revenue-Generating Project | December 8 - 16 In line with celebrating Christmas, this year's Revenue Generating Project was designed to literally spread cheer and love in the CBA through the form of gifts and little treats. Students can buy something for their friends and a special delivery service was provided. College students often forget to truly enjoy the yuletide spirit, BAC provided them a pocket-friendly and convenient way of encouraging everyone to celebrate the festive mood of the season. This was a new innovation for BA Week as we made the CBA students feel the spirit of the Christmas Season.

BA Idol 2010| Inter-batch Competition | December 8 and 16 BA Idol is an inter-batch singing competition. The 5 batches battled it out through their talented BA Idol representatives. The competition had two rounds, the preliminaries and the finale. With more performers this year and focused on the theme of Christmas Carollers, the BA Idols serenaded us with melodious Christmas tunes. The performers’ musicality, creativity and overall appeal were judged by an esteemed panel. The public voted for their favorites through Facebook likes and booth voting. The competition promoted batch effort as they support each other to garner the title of BA Idol. The Juniors proved that they have the talent and the star quality to be this year’s BA Idol.

Karolfest | BA Choir Project | December 9 The BA Choir is a project to support the CBA's singing group that annually joins the University's Karol festival. It aims to organize and help the official choir of the college by ensuring membership as well as training for the members. This year, the BAC was successful in gathering a pool of talented students who not only made us proud during the Karolfest but also gifted us with their lovely melody during presentations at the BA Week Launch, BA Week CulmiNight and Staff Tribute proving that CBA students have talent that they can share with other people.

Paskong Kay Saya, Paskong Kay Hiwaga| Stained Glass Competition | December 9 The Stained Glass competition is an annual tradition of the college wherein BA-based organizations compete with their creativity and innovation through the creation of stained glass masterpieces. With this year’s Christmas theme, the value of inspiration was showcased by all participating organizations as CBA was surrounded by wonderful works.

SimBA| Thanksgiving Mass | December 10 A Thanksgiving Mass held especially for the CBA community at the Parish of the Holy Sacrifice. This short time of prayer and worship is CBA's way of giving thanks and honouring to our Lord for not only the celebration that has passed, but also for the 94 years that He has blessed our college.

BACBACAN 2| Inter-Org Sports Competition | December 12 The highly anticipated BACBACAN 2 sports fest, organized yearly by the BA Student Council, aims to foster camaraderie among BA-based organizations. Four teams composed of different BA-based organizations come together and compete in different activities: Cheer Dance, Mr. and Ms. BACBACAN, ball games and parlor games. More than a simple sports fest, it is an opportunity for BA-based organizations to foster an environment of camaraderie within and among themselves. The BAC continuously improves its projects as BACBACAN 2 is a step up from the first BACBACAN with a bigger and better venue, more professional referees and judges, more sponsors and a whole lot more of fun.

Frost Hour| Culminating Night | December 16 The BA Week CulmiNight is considered to be the ultimate college celebration.
