by Asher Lee
Today’s Birthday: Benny Goodman, 1909
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) No fighting! This week if you pick up the sword and choose to fight the energy may blow up in your face. So take a beat and see if you can just show up and tell your story and then do your best to choose peace of mind over making a point.
TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) It is all about communication this week, so go ahead and talk and talk. The energy around this week may require some changes on your part; just make sure you are letting others know what you need.
GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Keep your head in a good place this week. It may be far too easy to allow your mind to wander to the negative side of things, so be diligent and take hold of your thoughts. There are other options, other than worst case scenarios.
CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Easy does it this week. No running with scissors and no rushing in without thinking. Take things one step at a time and allow your ideas to be fully cooked before you bring them out to anyone. Slow and steady wins the race.
LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Avoid the excessive part of your personality this week. Oh, come on, you can do it! Getting obsessive or excessive with anything will be a sure sign that you
have lost your way a little bit. Take a step back and see where you went off track and then make another choice.
VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You’ve been wanting change, hoping for it, maybe praying for it, so why get all freaked out when the change is actually happening? Embrace this change even if it isn’t the change you expected. It still may take you to where you want to go.
LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) It may be time to raise your standards a little higher. I know you want everyone to love you and you want to get along with everyone, however, there are times when you shouldn’t allow others to give you less than what you want. This is one of those times. Hold out and take a stand for what you know you want.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) A little bit of detachment will go a long way for you this week. Allow others to make their own choices and don’t get too hung up on how you think things ‘should’ be, or how you think people ‘should’ be. Trust other people and their process; they are most likely doing the best they can.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Don’t forget your emotional needs in everything going on. Do your best to communicate all that you feel and all that you need. Those who
love you won’t know what you need unless you say it out loud, so speak up.
CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) No use beating yourself up over things. Your inner critic needs a rest, so give it some time off and be more of a coach to yourself rather than a critic. Someone needs to be on your side of things, so why not show up for yourself as a fan?
AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Alone time may be just what you need right now, so make room for it. There has been a good deal of energy around of late and a lot of people’s stuff may be living in your head. Alone time will allow you to let all that go so you can hear your own voice again.
PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Delays are inevitable and your job
Miles Davis? Coltrane? The hippest cat of all might well have been Benny Goodman, the King of Swing. Goodman, perhaps the finest clarinetist of the century, ruled the airways and charts from 1928 until his death in 1986. It was Goodman who moved the jazz form onto the popular music charts; his seminal concert at Carnegie Hall on January 16, 1938 was described by critic Bruce Eder as “the single most important jazz or popular music concert in history.”
It was Goodman who explored the Bebop sound and brought it to a mainstream audience. And during the so-called “Cool” era of jazz Goodman was, simply put, the coolest clarinet player around and was in much demand.
At the age of 40 Goodman decided to refocus his playing and studied classical clarinet, having to re-learn technique almost from scratch. He proceeded to make a series of stunning albums featuring the world’s most influential classical composers; he was the featured soloist on Igor Stravinsky’s “Ebony Concerto.” Goodman’s search for perfection and his dedication to his music earned him the nickname of “The Professor.”
Goodman integrated American music, touring with black musicians as early as the 30s. Despite his mild-mannered appearance, Goodman would not tolerate racial slurs of any kind and would come to blows with detractors who persisted in taunting his musicians.
Needless to say, Goodman worked with the masters of his field: Gene Krupa was his drummer; Lionel Hampton played vibes in his band; he collaborated with George Benson and shared the stage with Harry James, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and Louis Armstrong.
Benny Goodman made dozens of albums, appeared in numerous movies, and was a fixture on television. His music will live on for eternity.
will be to trust those delays and make good use of the time. See if you can look around and see some things from a different perspective: a perspective that allows for the possibility that everything is happening with perfect timing.
NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday.

Coming SoonHigh School (R) It’s
the summer season, and teens love going to the movies. This comedy about an honor student who takes a toke and then finds out he has to take a mandatory drug test, should scratch the itch. Adrien Brody is delightfully over-the-top as the local drug dealer. All the Cheech and Chong stoner moves are on display, and every pot cliché used. In other words, the youth of America will relate.

Piranha 3D (R) Do we really need to tell you?

The Secret World of Arrietty If you missed this in the theaters, by all means rent this wonderful little film and enjoy it with the kids. It’s about a tiny little human-like creature who lives in the walls of a home with her parents. When the little boy who lives
in the house befriends her, they form a special bond. N a t u r a l l y, p r o b l e m s arise. Carol B u r n e t t i s
terrific as the housekeeper. Also starring Amy Poehler, Will Arnett, Bridget Mendler in the title role, and David Henrie as the little boy.
Now PlayingMoonrise Kingdom * (PG-13)
Wes Anderson (Bottle Rocket, Royal Tennenbaums) has assembled an incredible cast for this tale of two 12 year olds who run away into the wilderness as a violent storm approaches a New England island circa 1965. Bruce Willis plays the local sheriff, Ed Norton a scout leader, and Frances McDormand the
mother of the girl as the frantic search intensifies with each passing hour. Tilda Swinton, Jason Schwartzman, co-star. Jared Gilman and Kara Hayward play the kids.
Men In Black III (PG-13) East Hampton’s Barry Sonnenfeld brings
his franchise back for Number 3 and, like two old friends, it’s great to see them again. They literally go back – in time, to save the world from creatures both grotesque and humorous. Agents J (Will Smith) and K (Tommy Lee Jones) have the usual snappy banter going, and Josh Bolin signs on as the wet-behind-the-ears newbie agent. Emma Thompson costars.
The Dictator (NR) Sacha Baron Cohen’s latest is more of the same silliness, but this one has a few more
laughs than his usual efforts. An all-star cast led by John C. Reilly, Ben Kingsley, and Megan Fox helps.
Dark Shadows (PG-13) Johnny Depp is perfect as Barnabas the vampire, but this isn’t one of Tim Burton’s best efforts. Don’t expect a laugh riots, because a lot of the funny scenes are in the trailer. Instead, the script is a meandering, the scenes disjointed, and the whole thing feels like Burton kind of mailed it in. Still, it has its moments. Add a star if you love Depp.

Bell & Anchor
It’s already shaping up to be a memorable summer, especially in the restaurant scene. This summer will bring all of you Hamptons foodies plenty of new restaurants to enjoy along with the classic places you have come to know and love here on the East End.
This past week I was invited to attend the soft opening for one of these new highly anticipated restaurants, Bell & Anchor, open now in Sag Harbor. The Bell & Anchor is brought to you by renowned Hamptons restaurateurs David Lowenberg and Sam McCleland of the long time Sag Harbor staple The Beacon. The kitchen will be run by executive chef Dave Liszankie formally of Fresno in East Hampton.
The menu will have an emphasis on locally sourced seafood. It’s located on the pristine Mill Creek Marina which delivers one of the bests views in the Hamptons. The décor is simple yet elegant and really makes for a comfortable and pleasant dining experience.
Upon arrival we were greeted by warm smiling faces as we were swept away to a corner table overlooking the water. We were then treated to a
large platter of clams and oysters on the half shell, one of my favorites. I love clams so I had to try the crispy fried Ispwich clam bellies, despite having already chomped down about five clams prior. They were light, crisp and tender. I will certainly be back for more.
For my entrée I had the Cioppino (fish stew), which was delicious and
had just the right amount of spice. For dessert, the Key Lime pie which was some of the best I’ve had. It was very well balanced, not too sweet or tart.
Overall, I had a wonderful time and was more than impressed with the new establishment.
