Sono oramai passati oltre 10 anni da quandoAxo Light ha iniziato lo sviluppo di questastraordinaria collezione disegnata da ManuelVivian: gi allora, nonostante ci fossero soloalcuni disegni e qualche schizzo, si potevaintuire la grande e sobria eleganza che il

progetto Clavius custodiva.Si prolavano dunque giorni di lavoro neiquali dovevo rispettare i mirabolanti schizzi diconcezione nella redazione dei disegni esecutivie trovare al contempo una nuova storia daraccontare.

Allepoca avevo di recente rivisto 2001 Odisseanello spazio di Stanley Kubrik: mi avevaaffascinato la presenza misteriosa del Monoliteche nel lm compare nei momenti chiave dellastoria. Trovavo curioso che in quella collezionesi potessero ritrovare la stessa presenzaauratica e la stessa fascinosa stereometria delben pi famoso parallelepipedo alieno descrittoper la prima volta da Arthur Clarke. Durante laricerca del nome da attribuire alla collezionemi ricordai di quellelemento misterioso e dopoqualche indugio pensai che Clavius, il crateredella base lunare immaginata da Kubrik/Clarke,potesse essere perfetto. Poco importava chefosse il nome di un famoso cratere della Lunaderivato dal matematico e astronomo Claulatinizzato Clavius poich il risultato avrebbeinciso ulteriormente nella resa in termini difascinazione.

Manuel Vivian intanto incalzava con i disegnie la collezione cresceva. A distanza di 10 anniconservo con vivo piacere la memoria di quellastagione fruttuosa. Dopo aver pi volte ampliatola collezione, siamo ora felici di proporre unanuova nitura oro della montatura, il nuovocolore sabbia dei li setati dei paralumi, nuovimodelli per nuove tipologie ed inne nuovesorgenti a LED pi efcienti. Mi auguro che lanostra ricerca possa completare lofferta di unacollezione di lampade che ha dato e continua adare tantissime soddisfazioni ad Axo Light.Clavius dunque senza tempo? Come ilmisterioso monolite, la collezione percorrespazi e tempi, lungo una parabola di successoche ancora oggi continuiamo a rilevare.

More than 10 years have gone by since Axo Lbegan the development of this extraordinarycollection designed by Manuel Vivian: eventhen, despite the fact that there were only a fewdesigns and a couple of sketches, the great,sober elegance of the Clavius project was cleaThose were days when I was trying to follow incredible conceptual sketches in the realizatioof the executive drawings and, at the same timI was trying to nd a new story to tell.

I had also just watched 2001: A Space Odyssby Stanley Kubrick once again. I was fascinatby the mysterious presence of the monolith thappeared at key moments in the lm. I found very interesting connection between the auratipresence and the fascinating stereometry ofthe better known alien parallelepiped describefor the rst time by Arthur Clarke and our newcollection Clavius.When searching for the name of the collectionI remembered that mysterious element and,after some hesitation, I thought that Claviusthe name of the moon crater imagined byKubrick/Clarke, would be perfect. I didnt reacare that the name came from a famous mooncrater, derived from the mathematician andastronomer Clau - rendered as Clavius in Latin because the result would have made it evenmore fascinating.

Manuel Vivian rapidly went on realizing hisdesigns and the collection kept on growing.Ten years later I still have a vivid and pleasantmemory of that fruitful time. After havingenlarged the collection several times, we arenow delighted to offer a new gold nish for thframes, a new sand colour for the silky threadof the lampshades, new models for new types

lights and new, more efcient LED light sourcI hope that our research and development cancomplete the range of this lighting collectionthat has been and continues to be a great sourcof satisfaction for Axo Light. MANUEL VIVIANNato a Venezia nel 1971, si diploma allIstituto dArtedi Venezia e comincia giovanissimo ad interessarsial design, soprattutto del vetro sofato, anche grazieallattivit di famiglia. Dopo i successi dei primiprogetti in vetro, allarga i suoi interessi ai vari settoridellinterior design. Sin da quando nasce Axo Light,nel 1996, collabora costantemente con essa e nediviene il designer principale.

Born in Venice in 1971, he gained a diploma at theVenice Art institute and began to design at a very youngage, in particular blown glass, thanks also to his familybusiness. Following the success of his rst projects inglass, Manuel enlarged his range of interests to variousother elds of interior design. Since the creation of AxoLight in 1996, he has collaborated constantly with thecompany and has become its main designer.
