Filler items needed

In cooperation with Love, INC and His House, we are hoping to have each family in our congregation bring at least one backpack to be donated to local children who cannot afford a new backpack. You may bring them empty or filled with the items listed below. It’s easy to give money towards a project, but you will get a sense of ownership by actually buying one and filling it yourself. It is also a good way for families with children to encourage your children to become givers by taking them with you and allowing them to use their own money to fill it with items they pick out. We will display the backpacks in the Worship Center with the goal of covering the whole podium with backpacks by August 29. Extra filler items are always needed, also.

I am excited to have him on board with us as our Junior High Director under the leadership of Jay. I invite you to pray for God to use Trevor in mighty ways in the lives of our Junior High young people. Dear Church Family, I am writing you today from the little village of Torrance, located deep in the “jungle” of Southern California. It is a quaint village made up of many different people groups who speak numerous languages and dialects. Religious practices are seen everywhere, but few truly worship the Lord Jesus Christ “in spirit and in truth” (John 4:23).

Let me say THANK YOU to the 50+ of you that helped make our July 4th event a great success. The many volunteers’ hours on that day and in the days leading up to the 4th made the day a very enjoyable time together. I believe God was honored by our teamwork, our joyous spirit and our worship of Him on that day. We did have several attendees from the community, so please continue to pray with me

tour was amazing, although I did get a little motion sickness near the end. The weather was great, and the wild chickens added an extra touch to our experience. Thanks to Jay and Rog for doing such a great job on the Sundays of my absence. As I type this article, it is good to see that summer has finally arrived on this July 13. No clouds, beautiful blue sky and warm weather. My father-in-law who is visiting us from Portland sure is happy. I hope this summer that your love for God grows and you passionately serve your Lord.

For the most part, this village is clean and orderly and prides itself on having a local government which looks out for its people, but below the surface, there are deep problems. Sadly, this village, like

many others, is touched by severe family problems, child abuse, drug problems and all kinds of bad conduct. With so much advanced technology and sophistication, you would think these villagers would conduct themselves differently, but they

Most work days, I sit in my cubicle, crunching numbers of some sort.

I do venture out, but only for short stints — not much face-to-face fellowship.

But do the chats on Facebook, Twitter, and email count as fellowship? Think through some situations: a student away at college, a soldier

at war, a firefighter on duty, and an executive on a business trip. Each of these

persons is physically absent from family and friends, yet relationships persist. Human persons remain human in time and eternity. Just as the

disembodied state between physical death and resurrection does not remove

personhood, so the un-embodied connections through the mail, over the

telephone, and on the internet do not remove personhood. The invention of the web has opened up a world of new possibilities

for continuing relationship with those who are physically absent. Whether

moving to another town or simply separated by the dailies of life, most of our

time as TFBers is spent physically apart. We ought to savor the times of face-

to-face gathering, but we need not leave our relations to that small window. What does this have to do with TFB? Did you know that back in

2009, TFB entered the world of Facebook? So far, 240 current or former

TFBers have connected to TFB's Facebook page. Some share personal news. Bill Blancke announced his graduation

from Crown College with a Masters in Ministry Leadership. Ann Pursche

expressed her sadness at the death of Sonny Bishop. Mike and Alice Johnson

popped in to say, Hi. Others share TFB news. Dee Gonzales announced Kamper Kamp

details. Mark Grindle lets us know when the Proclaimer is online. Mark

We will be seeing a play, “The Hasty Heart,” that was reproduced into a 1949 movie with the same title, that starred Ronald Reagan and Patricia Neal It is a story about how friendship wins out over bitterness and self-pity. We will leave the church at 11:00 a.m., go to lunch, see the play and then be home by 6 p.m. The cost is $20 plus money for lunch.

Amanda Diroll

Youth with a Mission

On Monday, June 28, Amanda Diroll shared with us why this verse has meant so much to her as she ministers to

the homeless, addicted, and abused in the streets of Kona, Hawaii. After much prayer and training, Amanda will be going from short-term missions to a year-long mission with YWAM University of Nations continuing her work in Kona. She is raising support for her time in this ministry and needs funds of approximately $1,000 a month. It has been so exciting to see the work and miracles God is performing through this ministry, called Na’Kupono which in Hawaiian means “on behalf of all things righteous.” God is changing hearts and lives and giving this ministry favor with the local government to reach out as never before. Please keep Na’Kupono, Amanda and the team lifted in prayer.

The Shawvers in Mexico We received a newsletter from Chuck and Ramona Shawvers, who we support in Mexico. Recently they visited with a group of students from the local Baptist Seminary and attended the Baptist Church in Iguala, Mexico where one of the seminary graduates serves as pastor. Here is a brief statement of his visit to the church: “It is filled with people of all ages but especially youth, lively worship, good teaching, lots of love, [and] lots of enthusiasm. The kind of place you want to be, even when Mexico's soccer team is playing in the World Cup! The kind of place where people can come to know God. The kind of ministry we want for all of our graduates.” May we have such an enthusiasm to reach out as God requires us to do. Do you have a vision of where God is calling you?

Pray for our Russia Pray for our Russia Pray for our Russia Pray for our Russia TeamTeamTeamTeam Pastor Rog and Joyce Hosier and Michael Dodd will be going to Kursk, Russia, leaving on August 5 to serve as short-term missionaries. Rog and Joyce will be holding two marriage conferences: a 2-day one in Belgorod and one in Kursk for 3 days. Since marriage conferences have never been held in Russia, these dear people will be hearing some things which might sound somewhat different than what their culture has taught them. Thankfully, the truths in God’s Word transcend all cultures and give us the bedrock on which all God-honoring marriages must be built. Michael will be joining Amelia Speed (Bob and Della Andrew’s granddaughter), former attendee/member Michelle Wood, and others to work at an orphanage in Lugov. This is a powerful opportunity to share Christ with those children who desperately need to know Him. Pray for the following: �� Safe travel and smooth connections; �� Open hearts for God’s Word; �� Sensitivity to the Spirit’s leading re: cultural differences; and �� For all on the team to work well together as one.

The call for more MISSIONARIES went out years ago and continues to this day, but sadly many of the true believers here don’t seem too interested in telling others about the Person Who changed their lives and saved them from their sin. To be sure, this is very discouraging — so many people to reach for Christ and too few who are prayerfully ready. Would you please pray with us that the Lord would burden the hearts of those who already have received this GOOD NEWS for themselves, that they too are MISSIONARIES right where they live? Through the years, we’ve come to understand that if there is no real passion for those who are spiritually lost, all our efforts are severely diminished. Like you, we too are tired of “mere” programs which soon fade away. We earnestly desire the real thing motivating us to tell others about Christ — yes, the very LOVE and PASSION of our Savior — a ministry which humbles us before Him and brings glory to His Name. Many thanks for standing with us. Your PRAYER SUPPORT is urgently needed. We know the task before us is great, but our dependence is on the Lord. Through Him all things are possible (Philippians 4:13). Praying for more of His passion and love,

With everyone rested and refreshed, the class will start again on September 12 (still at 8:15 a.m.).

For those who might be interested, we are studying the book of Isaiah. What is fascinating about the book is that there is a unique break starting at chapter 40. This break is so distinct, it has caused many to say, “This shows there is obviously more than one author.” Another fascinating aspect is that there are 66 books in the Bible and 66 chapters in Isaiah. The first 39 books of the Bible are the books of the Old Testament. The theme of these books is history, judgment and God’s mercy. The theme of the first 39 chapters of Isaiah is history, judgment and mercy. The next 27 books of the Bible are the New Testament and their theme is salvation and comfort. The theme of the last 27 chapters of Isaiah is salvation and comfort. In the Bible’s New Testament, there are four gospels. In Isaiah’s New Testament, there are four songs announcing the Messiah. The author of both the Bible and Isaiah is the Holy Spirit, even though the Bible had many scribes. On September 12, we will resume this study starting with chapter 55. Whosoever will may come. See you then!
