Difference between main and sister channels?

BBC Two - It covers a wide range of subject matters, but tending towards more "highbrow" programmes than the more mainstream and popular BBC One.

BBC Three - providing "innovative" content to younger audiences, focusing on new talent and new technologies.

BBC Four - The channel shows "a wide variety of programmes including drama, documentaries, music, international film, original programmes, comedy and current affairs ... an alternative to programmes on the mainstream TV channels.

BBC News - 24-hour rolling news television network in the United Kingdom.

BBC Parliament - to make accessible to all the work of the parliamentary and legislative bodies of the United Kingdom and the European Parliament.

CBBC – Sister service for children.

Cbeebies – Sister service for younger children.

Target audienceBBC One would have a wide audience because of the variety of programmes that the channel shows. BBC shows programmes which are specifically focused towards certain people, for example shows like Match of the Day is aimed to sports fans.

Another example for children and adults would be Doctor who as it is a more family based tv show.

How does this channel compare to other channels?

In comparison to BBC Three, I would say that BBC One has a wider audience because of the variety of programmes it shows which appeal to everyone. BBC Three, on the other hand, is aimed at a more young adult audience with shows such as, ‘Snog, Marry, Avoid’ and ‘Sun, Sex and suspicious parents’. These programmes are very much about entertainment rather than education.

How does this channel’s type of documentaries compare to other channels’?

0 Wide variety of documentaries to interest different types of people, e.g Fazer’s Urban Takeover and Africa. Mostly fans of Fazer’s and young adults would watch that type of documentary and Africa would be watched by fans of David Attenborough, nature and wildlife.

0 Objective and Factual. The History documentaries are very factual and very objective and serious. For xample, Martin Luther King and the March on Washington.

0 Educational documentaries. For example, The Documentary which explains the war in Iraq and also the historical documentaries.

FilmFour - It offers films in standard definition free of charge

E4 - The "E" stands for entertainment, and the channel is mainly aimed at the lucrative 15–35 age group. Programming includes U.S. imports such as The Cleveland Show, The O.C., Smallville, Veronica Mars, Everwood, What About Brian?, Desperate Housewives, How I Met Your Mother.

More4 - focused towards more lifestyle based content.[3] Documentaries which previously aired on the channel moved to its parent station Channel 4.

How does Channel 4 compare to other channels?

In comparison to other channels, Channel 4 can be seen as more mainstream with programmes to suite everyone.This makes them more enjoyable and popular for all ages as they apply to all peoples tastes.

Channels like BBC 2 are more likely to shows programmes which are more educational and less mainstream.

Channel 4 shows a variety of documentaries from health and appearance to cultural and historical documentaries. For example, Supersize VS Superskinny, Educating Yorkshire, Alex Brooker – My Perfect Body, Extreme A&E, Big Fat Gypsy Weddings.

Channel 4 shows documentaries which are very educational and most of the time their topics are medical and appearance based.

Other channels such as Channel 5 show documentaries which are mostly based on topics such as, nature, health and culture.
