Paschal Candle

‘Paschal’ comes from the word for the celebration of the Jewish Passover, which celebrates the delivery of God’s people from slavery in Egypt.

How it is used in the Easter vigil

At the start of the mass it is dark until the candle is lit, this is to remind us of the sacrifice Jesus made for us when he died on the cross.

The Paschal Candle represents:.Light.Guidence.Courage.New Life .Hope, healing, happiness.faith

The symbol on top and bottom of the candle is for:

Christ yesterday and today, the beginning and the end, Alpha and Omega;All time belongs to him.
