  • CATEGORY 1: BATHROOM SPACE DESIGN AWARD

    01

    The Bathroom Space Design must be for use in a personal bathroom space. Students are required to design their Bathroom Space around any one of 3 themes:

    1. Timeless Pace - to cater to those mindful of traditional, heritage designs and ever- green bathroom styles.

    2. Shift of the Moment - bathroom designs that accommodate upcoming urbanization development and environmental trends.

    3. Radical Occasion - for people who own wild tastes and love to stretch the limits to produce out-of-the-box bathroom designs.

    Students are required to showcase the products from an American Standard Product Collection - Acacia Evolution Collection to develop a Bathroom Space Design. The collections digital files can be downloaded from this link: http://www.ASdesignaward.com/acaciae

    SUBMISSIONREQUIREMENTS

    The overall space of bathroom design shouldnt exceed 15 sqm.

    Designers must submit their presentation in both physical and digital formats:

    1. Securely mounted on A2 sized black mounting boards in landscape orientation. Designers can freely plan their presentations BUT the presentations must not exceed more than 2 pieces of A2 mounting boards.

    2. Designers are also required to submit a JPEG format version of their presentations electronically via the American Standard Design Award Asia Pacific 2015s website. The JPEG must not exceed 5MB in size and be titled according to the following format: ASDA_Bathroom_Country_School name_Individual name.jpg

    There shall be no identification of any kind on the front of the submitted mounted presentations to ensure a fair critique from the Jury.

    Mounted and JPEG Presentations must contain but not limited to:

    - Title of Design

    - Theme: Timeless Pace/ Shift of the Moment/ Radical Occasion

    - Design Story/ Inspiration write-ups of not more than 150 words. Font size: at least 12 points. Include page numbers on bottom left corner in this format (Pg 1 of 2)

    - Layout Plan

    - 3D Perspectives

    - Materials & Finishes

    All submissions must be in English and accompanied with complete contact details.

    - Mounted presentations must have contact details on the back of the mounted presentations and submitted to the Person in charge of Design Competition in your school.

    - JPEG presentations must have contact details upon submission via the American Standard Design Award Asia Pacific 2015s website.

    - Title of your design according to the following format: ASDA_Bathroom_Country_School name_Individual name

    1 Finalist will be shortlisted from each country and notified via email and on website .

    Round 1 Finalists from each country are required to submit a video recording of not more than 2mins (max 100MB) to elaborate on your design inspiration in MPG format to determine a Grand Prize Winner. This video will be requested upon announcement of the Round 1 Country Finalists on 29 May 2015. Video to be submitted by 12 June 2015.*

    Round 2 Winners will be announced on 19 June 2015.*

  • CATEGORY 2:PRODUCT CONCEPTDESIGN AWARD - TOILET

    CONCEPT Students are required to develop a product design for a Toilet based on these concept requirements:

    1. Provides ultimate comfort2. Compact for small spaces3. Suitable for urban lifestyles

    In general, the design must address a specific need and how users can benefit from using it. Whether it is the function or emotion, or both, it should push the boundary of typical bathroom experience in a way it has never been done before.

    Candidates must be studying students of your university in these countries (Thailand, Singapore, the Philippines, Indonesia)

    Participants can only submit as an individual

    Only 1 submission per candidate per category, but candidate can participate in more than 1 category

    Any form of plagiarism will void the entries

    All winning entries will automatically be intellectual properties of LIXIL International Pte Ltd

    If any concept ideas from the winning entries are used or manufactured by LIXIL and its companies in the near future, they remain the properties of LIXIL International Pte Ltd and its affiliated companies under its care.

  • JUDGING CRITERIA

    Entries in the competition will be judged on visual appeal, creativity, the elements and principles of design, originality of idea etc.

    Concept Creativity: 30 points

    - how novel is the concept?

    - was the concept designed around any one of the 3 themes? (Timeless Pace, Shift of the Moment, Radical Occasion)

    - does it provide a solution to unforeseen future consumer trends?

    Visual & Aesthetic Appeal: 20 points

    - does the bathroom space design have a desirable effect on the viewer?

    - does the bathroom space design appropriately reflect the design element of the Acacia Evolution Collection?

    Functional Feasibility: 30 points

    - does the bathroom space design have good layout/ traffic flow?

    - does the bathroom space design incorporate bathroom materials, good use of space and universal design principles to achieve the wellness and comfort of the user?

    - is the bathroom space design relevant to the chosen theme?

    Relevance of using Acacia Evolution products: 20 points

    - does the bathroom space design contain at least 1 of the following products from the Acacia Evolution Collection? (VCs, faucets, wash basins)

    Entries in the competition will be judged on visual appeal, creativity, the elements and principles of design, originality of idea etc.

    Concept Creativity: 30 points

    - how novel is the concept?

    - does the design fulfil the 3 requirements of 1. providing ultimate comfort, 2. compact for small spaces, and 3. suitable for urban lifestyles?

    - does it incorporate innovative technology/material to meet the needs of consumers?

    - is it an unique solution to an unforeseen future consumer need?

    Visual & Aesthetic Appeal: 20 points

    - does the product contain one or more interesting design element?

    - overall aesthetic appeal of the product design

    Ergonomics: 20 points

    - is the product ergonomically-designed?

    - does the product design achieve the wellness and comfort of the user?

    Functional Feasibility: 30 points

    - is the product concept functionally-viable? i.e. can the concept work?

    - does the product provide an additional functional benefit/s beyond just its typical function?

  • American Standard reserves the right to disqualify an entry before, during, or after the contest judging. In the case of disqualification after an awards ceremony, the entrant will be required to return the award and American Standard may make a public announcement.

  • Round 1 finalists will each receive a cash prize of USD2000.

    Finalists from each category will be flown to Singapore for the Award Ceremony.
