Los Verbos -AR-AR verbs in Spanish

Copy these –AR verbs

in your Steno pad.

Llevar = to wear

Visitar = to visit

Estudiar = to study

Escuchar = to listen to

Hablor = to speak, talk

Trabajar =to work

Lavar = to wash

Comprar = to buy

We know that these are –AR verbs

because the infinitive* ends with -AR

Llevar > visitar > trabajar > hablar

To conjugate these verbs, you must first remove

the AR ending.

The part that is left is called the STEM.

Llevar llev- > trabajar trabaj-

Visitar visit- > hablar habl-

*Remember that an infinitive is an unconjugated verb*

So, how do we use the verb

in a sentence?

You must find the STEM and then add the

appropriate endings to match each subject!

Copy these endings for –AR verbs.

2. Identify your subject

3. Add the appropriate ending from the chart
