‘Field trips like this can do more for their education than any talk in a classroom could, and they will remember it for many, many years to come’ Parent of student at Leighton Park School2

If we want to attract pupils beyond Year 9 and if we want to get them fully to appreciate what we teach in the classroom, then it is essential that we get them out of it and onto the ground! I am a great believer in that statement by Einstein: “Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything one learned in school”; History students need to get out of school and see the past in the present for themselves. I have taken a Head Teacher and a Chairman of Governors on such a trip and they have seen the impact on pupil learning, as well as appreciating the improvement in examination results which they undoubtedly bring!

However, anyone bothering to read this foreword will know all this already, so why Anglia over their competitors? I hope that I am a decent enough guide, but my students hear me talking all the time in school; they benefit hugely from being guided by an expert and Anglia provide these. Every guide we have had from Anglia has enviable subject knowledge, is able not only to challenge the students and to inspire them to want to know more, but also to encourage them to think for themselves. Anglia guides have infectious enthusiasm and many have military experience which

makes an enormous difference when you have sixty-five Year 9s in a Great War Trench or standing on the D-Day beaches. They also allow you, the teacher, the freedom to get in amongst the students and also to learn for yourself without you having the responsibility of taking them around the sights!

I have found Anglia unparalleled in their willingness and support in helping you design a bespoke tour which suits particular examination needs. Nothing is too much trouble. Anglia also take their responsibility to provide a safe environment extremely seriously. Logistics matter when you have a large number of Year 10 pupils abroad. Anglia’s guides know what to do in a crisis and they have the full back up of their office 24 hours a day. I couldn’t have asked for better care.

Aside from superb guides, rigorous health and safety standards and logistical expertise, the field trips which Anglia organise have a significant impact, not just on the enthusiasm of students for History as a subject and on take-up for GCSE and A Level, but also on examination results. I am certain that one reason why the number of LEH historians achieving A* at GCSE has risen so dramatically over the

last two years is because these trips have considerably improved pupil understanding and knowledge.

I do not know of any Head of History familiar with what Anglia offers who would want to use any other company. The service is exemplary from start to finish. If you employ Anglia, your students’ parents will get their money’s worth and your students will have a wonderful educational experience. What more need I say?

I have been attending and then organising overseas History field visits for 20 years: the best decision I made was to ask Anglia Battlefield Tours to organise them for me. As a result, I am delighted to have been asked to write the foreword for this brochure. I cannot foresee any reason why I would want to look for another company.

What is in a name? You may well ask. As Anglia Battlefield Tours we became one of the UK’s largest independent history tour operators, established an enviable reputation for high quality service and led the way in fully guided tours. Now our commitment to delivering the same quality of service extends far beyond the battlefields. Each year we take an increasing number of schools on tours across Europe, to places such as Paris, Berlin, Krakow and Prague. Whilst each of these may have borne witness to conflict, the reason why so many groups travel with us to these cities extends far beyond the confines of a battlefield.

Whether the focus of your studies is the rise of National Socialism, the Cold War, Medicine Through Time

or one of the many other subjects covered by the current History specifications, Anglia can deliver, on the ground, exactly the tour you need to support your classroom based learning. So now the time has now come to reflect that in the name of our company.

This year, as Anglia Tours, we will create the platform from which we can expand into new areas of school history tours. We will retain our total commitment to providing the quality of service you have come to expect from us and to ensuring that, whatever tour you take with us meets your expectations in full.

As you read this brochure it should become apparent that we are different from other school tour

operators. We care about what we do and about you, our customers. Let us take you on tour where you can experience that difference at first hand. Let our guides engage with your students, inspire and enthuse them so that not only do you see an improvement in their performance at exams, but they also gain a deeper understanding of the world we have left behind and the world we have to live in now.

Above all, let Anglia Tours help you create a truly memorable experience.

Welcome to our new History brochure for 2011 – 2012 and welcome to a new era for Anglia. As you may well have noticed from the cover of the brochure, this year sees a landmark in the development of our company, symbolised by a change of name and a change of logo.

Peace and War: International Relations 1900-1991 The twentieth century was defined by the search for peace in a time of unprecedented conflict. New political ideologies clashed with outdated notions of government, culminating in the cataclysmic events of two global wars. The second half of the century witnessed the tensions of globalisation, conflicting economic and political systems, popular protest and the advent of international terrorism.

Our tours are designed to support the new specifications for GCSE and post-16 courses, allowing students to develop their understanding of the twentieth century in the very locations where these epoch-changing events took place.

Combined German ToursWhilst a visit to any one of the aforementioned cities will afford students the opportunity to consider the themes identified, ANGLIA is pleased to be able to offer a range of tours where through visiting a number of locations students really get to grips with modern German history.

Berlin‘The newest city I have come across’ - Mark Twain, 1892

It is perhaps true to say that one concept defines Berlin: change. This is a city that never stands still, which is constantly re-inventing itself, and never fails to surprise even the most regular visitor. Nowhere on earth experienced the twentieth century in quite such sharp relief as Berlin as it experienced Imperial autocracy, fascism, dictatorship, Communism and eventually capitalist democracy. Iconic landmarks such as the Reichstag and Brandenburg Gate witnessed the end of Europe’s old order, and the emergence of one of the most brutal regimes in history, followed by total devastation and physical division.

A city divided unlike any other, Berlin still bears the scars of both conflict and reconstruction. The Berlin Wall is even now being restored, and it is possible to visit museums demonstrating the brutality of a regime in power as recently as 1989.

For students of twentieth century history, a visit to Berlin is a must.

Britain at War The British experience of warfare has helped shape the nation and society we have become. Although rarely invaded or occupied, Britain has a rich military tradition going back centuries.

From the Battle of Hastings, through Agincourt, Waterloo, the killing fields of the Great War and the beaches of Dunkirk and Normandy, to the deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan, these conflicts have contributed to social changes which many now take for granted.

For schools studying GCSE or A’ level components examining the experience of Britain at War, or the Development of Warfare over time, ANGLIA is pleased to offer a range of hallmark tours, including the fully-guided battlefield tours on which our reputation was built.

The Great WarAlmost a century after it ended the Great War continues to cast a shadow on British society. As the market-leader in fully-guided schools tours to the battlefields of the Western Front, ANGLIA is able to provide you and your students with a range of tours, designed to meet your particular needs, whatever your level or curriculum.

Whether you are looking for a tour for Year 8 or 9 students exploring the reality of life in the trenches, GCSE students studying the role of the British army on the Western Front, or A/S students examining the development of warfare during the Great War, ANGLIA will be able to create the perfect itinerary for you.

Themes:

Causes of the Great War

The Western Front

The ‘actualities of war’ – the experience of soldiers on the Western Front

Kitchener’s Army – the Pals Battalions

The relationship between Officers and men

The development of warfare – tactics and technology in the Great War

The role of the Generals, in particular the Haig Debate

The impact of the Great War

There are a range of options for our Great War tours of which the following are only a small selection.

The Somme ‘Defeat to Victory’The traditional view of the Somme is one of unmitigated disaster, horrendous casualties and a failure to adapt. However this view is not wholly borne out by the events of that summer 95 years ago. By following the British Army beyond 1st July through the subsequent weeks and months, students will see how it developed into an army equipped to win the war.

No Man’s LandANGLIA remains the only operator able to offer the unique hands-on ‘No Man’s Land experience’. Adding this to your Great War itinerary will mean your students attend a night-time briefing on the role of a sentry and the purpose of a trench raid. Entering a simulated trench system they will be asked to identify each sound in turn before deciding whether the movements they hear are a friendly patrol coming home or the enemy about to attack.

NEW Christmas Truce During more than 4 years of bitter fighting one event stood out as a beacon of humanity, the Christmas Truce of 1914, when amidst the carnage, for the first time, the fighting actually stopped. In 2011 ANGLIA is pleased to be able to mark this event with a unique programme, centring on a re-enactment of the Truce with actors in period uniforms adopting the personae of men who witnessed this remarkable event. Not only does this allow your students to discover the realities of life in the trenches for themselves but by giving them the opportunity to talk and question ‘eye-witnesses’ they can gain an understanding what it would have been like for the men who were there.

Supported by a Christmas Truce resource pack.

Show & Tell SessionsANGLIA is able not only to offer high quality guided tours but can also give your students a unique hands-on experience.

What better way is there to get inside the mind of ‘Tommy Atkins’ than by walking the same ground wearing his boots, tin hat, tunic & webbing and carrying a Lee Enfield Rifle. Developing the very successful ‘Show & Tell’ sessions we ran as part of our 2009 Christmas Truce tour, ANGLIA is pleased to be able to offer student groups touring with us to the Somme and Ypres, the opportunity to handle authentic Great War equipment. This engaging session led by your ANGLIA guide will include both a short Brief on the equipment on display as well as the chance for one lucky ‘volunteer’ to don full kit - which makes a perfect photo opportunity.

Living History visitsWhilst a guided tour to the battlefields of France & Flanders remains the best way for many students to begin to understand the scale and impact of the conflict, for those looking for an another means to bring the realities of trench warfare to life for younger students, ANGLIA is able to offer an excellent alternative. After all what could be better than having ‘Tommy Atkins’ visit your students at school?

Wearing fully authentic period uniform and carrying Great War weaponry and equipment, an ANGLIA guide will talk to your students from the perspective of a British ‘Tommy’ from the First World War. Each session is designed to cover exactly the themes you are looking at in class and provides your students not only with the chance to ask questions at first hand but also to handle some of the equipment.

For students taking this Edexcel option ANGLIA is pleased to offer a tour which is designed specifically to amplify the key content of this course. It focuses on the BEF from its deployment to continental Europe in August 1914, through the stalemate and costly battles of 1916 and 1917, to the last hundred days and the advance to victory.

The Second World WarStudy materials available

No single conflict has affected so many people over such a wide area as the war that engulfed the world from 1939. The Second World War truly is the defining act of the Twentieth Century. A clash of extreme doctrines, of dictatorships and democracies that resulted in over 50 million killed and countless millions left homeless. A conflict during which the world awoke to the reality of warfare in a technological age and learned a new vocabulary: Blitzkrieg, Total War, Holocaust and Human Rights.

Themes:

Hitler’s Foreign Policy

The Origins of World War II

Britain at War

The impact of war and transformation of British society

The development of warfare – tactics and technology in the Second World War

Other optionsOccupied FranceApart from the Ardennes the two most northern departments of France, Nord and the Pas-de-Calais, are the only ones to have been occupied by German troops twice in the Twentieth Century. ANGLIA is able to offer a tour which brings into sharp focus the struggle to survive during a period when finding food and keeping warm became an obsession. It considers the temptations of collaboration and the fate of those who sought to resist the Nazi regime.

Operation Market Garden – ArnhemIn the summer of 1944 Allied High Command gave its approval to an ambitious plan to secure a bridgehead across the last natural barrier to Germany – the Lower Rhine. To airborne troops was given the responsibility of securing the bridges over the canals and rivers on the Eindhoven-Arnhem road, along which the British 2nd Army would then advance. Although this operation, to be known as Market Garden, would see numerous incidences of personal heroism it would not deliver the breakthrough sought and would result in over 1,200 British soldiers losing their lives.

Development of WarfareStudy materials available

Following the introduction of new specifications for GCSE and post-16 courses over the last two years, ANGLIA is delighted to extend its range of tours designed to examine the changing nature of warfare across different periods of time.

Through its team of hand-picked expert guides, ANGLIA is able to create combination tours, designed specifically to meet your requirements. From Roman warfare right up to the First Gulf War, we have guides who can bring to life the developments in weaponry, army organisation and training, communication, medical provision, strategy, tactics and combat.

Whether your students are following the new AQA controlled assessments at GCSE, the SHP unit on the Changing Nature of Warfare, or the A/S unit on the Experience of Warfare in Britain, 1854-1929, ANGLIA has the expertise to deliver a thought-provoking and comparative tour.

The following tours are merely illustrations of what we can offer: if you cannot see what you need, please give us a call!

From Longbows to Lasers3 days, Agincourt, Waterloo & Ypres

Examining the British experience of warfare from the medieval period to the modern day, this tour begins by exploring the firepower of Henry V’s army at Agincourt, and the tactics they employed. Moving on to Waterloo, the tour then looks at the development of the grand armies of the Napoleonic age, considering the use of artillery and siege technology, and their impact on strategy and tactics. We then continue to Flanders and study the nature of Trench Warfare on the Western Front, and the new technologies and tactic that were developed to break the stalemate. Your guides will finish by comparing these themes with the computerised and high-tech warfare of the late twentieth century.

Crimea, Boer and First World War, 1854-1929 2 days, Ypres & the Somme

With trips to the Ukraine and South Africa beyond the means of most schools, ANGLIA is delighted to offer a short tour to the Western Front, incorporating comparative theory sessions focussing on these periods for students following Edexcel option C1 at A/S.

The tour itself will focus on the British experience on the Western Front, including the nature of trench warfare, medical developments, recruitment, morale and discipline and the effectiveness of strategy and tactics. Your expert guides will make comparisons between these themes and the corresponding developments during the Crimean and Second Boer Wars.

It is possible to arrange for seminars and workshops to be held during the evening at your accommodation - we would be happy to liaise with you from an early point to plan these activities.

From Stalemate to Blitzkrieg 2 Days, Ypres & Dunkirk

Beginning with an examination of the nature of trench warfare on the Western Front, this 2-day tour looks at how the nature of warfare changed during the latter part of the Great War. From that point we head back to Dunkirk, following the route of the German Army in 1940, and consider how the roots of ‘Lightning War’ lay in the final months of World War One’.

For schools wishing to focus more on the Great War, it is possible to spend a day on the Somme, rather than following the 1940 campaign to Dunkirk. Please contact us for further details.

Combined ToursFor schools studying a wider period of history, it is possible to combine either element of this tour with visits to Crecy, Agincourt, Waterloo or the Somme. Please ask any of ourdesk officers for details.

Napoleonic Wars WaterlooThe Battle of Waterloo was a turning point in modern European history and one of the largest land battles ever fought on European soil. For the first time the Emperor Napoleon cast his military brilliance directly against the tactical skill and determination of the Duke of Wellington. The result was stunning. In a single afternoon Imperial France’s aspirations for European domination were dashed, leaving around 40,000 casualties on a field barely a mile across and three miles wide.

Given its location twelve miles south of Brussels, it is possible to visit the battlefield of Waterloo comfortably in two days from the UK. It is also possible to extend the tour to cover other sites connected with the Waterloo campaign – Quatre Bras, Ligny and Wavre – or to combine the tour with a visit to Paris to explore the themes of Napoleonic France.

Britain at War, 1914-1945 4 days Ypres, Dunkirk , Normandy

Examining the role of Britain in two world wars, these tours go beyond the inception of Blitzkrieg and the evacuation from Dunkirk to examine the latter stages of the Second World War. In particular we focus on the planning and execution of the most ambitious combined operation in the history of warfare, Operation Overlord, the Allied Invasion of Europe in 1944, and see how this developed from the experiences of 1940.

‘I think the strength of ABT is the personal touch - I always feel that the company are genuinely interested in us and that friendly touch is very important. I feel that I know and like many of the office staff even though we have never met. I am being flooded with brochures from companies who offer much cheaper deals but I can not believe that they can provide such an excellent service’

Morality, Race and Persecution The twentieth century witnessed some of the darkest events in human history. Whilst discrimination and persecution have existed as long as people have walked the planet, the rapid growth of industrial power and technology allowed those in a position to abuse power to do so in previously unimaginable ways.

Parallel to this, developments in communication and media meant that for the first time mass populations were able to witness the effects of war and tyranny, whilst individuals found themselves facing the greatest challenges to their morality and code of ethics. The ultimate triumph of the twentieth century was that of morality over evil, of the collective good over the whims of an evil minority.

Auschwitz and KrakowAs part of this process ANGLIA is committed to taking students to the scene of the worst of these atrocities, the infamous Auschwitz-Birkenau extermination camp. Also, exploring the beautiful medieval city of Krakow and following the trail of the enigmatic Oscar Schindler, this tour allows students to develop their understanding of this difficultsubject by visiting the sites for themselves.

NEW Anglia is delighted to offer groups travelling with us to Krakow the chance to meet and talk with a Holocaust Survivor or recipient of the ‘Righteous Among the Nations’ award. Providing as it does a unique opportunity to engage with an individual who experienced the Nazi regime of Terror at first hand, this is an opportunity not to be missed.

Majdanek and Belzec Whilst for many the Auschwitz-Birkenau complex where some 1.1 million people were murdered is the epitome of a Nazi death camp, the fact is that less than 20% of the victims of the Holocaust were killed there.

On 1st November 1941 as part of Aktion Reinhard, the name given for the extermination of the Jews living in the Generalgouvernement, work began on camps at Belzec, Treblinka and Sobibor. Unlike Auschwitz-Birkenau there would be no selection process. The sole purpose of these camps was mass execution.

For those who want to widen their understanding of the Holocaust, ANGLIA is able to offer a fully guided 2 or 3 day programme which includes tours of the memorial sites at both Belzec and Majdanek, as well as visits to the beautiful town of Zamosc and Lublin, site of the Aktion Reinhard headquarters.

Words cannot adequately describe the enormity or the horror that befell the Jewish population of Europe at the hands of the Nazi regime. Although the world now knows the scale of this crime, the decades since have been spent trying to understand how the systematic extermination of a people could be conceived, planned and carried out with such ruthlessness.

Anne Frank Such is the scale of loss experienced during the Holocaust that it is almost impossible for most of us to fully comprehend its magnitude. And yet, amidst the 11 million people who died in the Ghettos and Camps set up across Europe by the Nazi regime, it is possible to personalise the suffering and to walk in the footsteps of one who experienced this at first hand. The diary of Anne Frank is still amongst the most widely read publication and continues to prove a real inspiration for many. This tour is designed to follow her journey from hiding in Amsterdam, through her transportation to Auschwitz and then eventually to Bergen-Belsen where she was murdered.

How did these non-combatants grapple with matters of faith and conscience amidst the horrors of war?

On this Ypres-based tour we focus in depth on the hardships, dilemmas and daily challenges faced by the Padres who were deployed in support of troops on the Western Front, and link them and their role with recent conflicts, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

Cross-curricular toursHistory and CitizenshipThe link between history and citizenship training is an obvious one and in this section we feel that the study of morality, race and persecution, especially in recent times makes a visit to Auschwitz/Birkenau of huge importance. Students need to fully understand that the lessons from the formula; PREJUDICE = DISCRIMINATION = PERSECUTION = EXTERMINATION teaches us as Edmund Burke said that “evil will triumph if good men do nothing”.

History and Religious StudiesStudents studying the Holocaust can explore the reasons behind the inhumanity of mankind as well as the historically documented facts. Themes such as the Just War and multi-faith ethics as well as human moral courage in the face of adversity can be explored. Groups can compare the concept of the use of force between nations with the Christian and other faiths principles of peace, love and reconciliation.

History and LiteratureThe literature that came out of the Holocaust is a testament to those that endured and survived as well as to those who perished in their millions. As with our WW1 poetry and literature tours, to get students to stand where these events took place in the footsteps of the writers is beyond compare and will enhance and underpin their studies and take them into another, distinctive dimension.

History and Photography and Media StudiesThe Holocaust did not happen overnight; it was a process that took several years. The part played by the media and photography in this process is pivotal. Propaganda, photographic manipulation and disinformation are areas that can be explored along with broadcasting generally as a tool of propaganda and how it helped the Nazi cause by dehumanising an entire people. Auschwitz/Birkenau contains moving examples of this photographic and media manipulation.

Medieval EuropeFor four hundred years English and French history were inextricably linked. With a Norman duke on the English throne, and his descendents determined to pursue their claims to French territory, the two nations were rarely peaceful neighbours.

These tours allow students to stand in the footsteps of kings and princes, visiting the locations that shaped the future Conqueror and to which his descendents travelled to press their claims.

The Norman Conquest Central to any study of the causes, events and effects of the Norman Conquest of England is an understanding of who the Normans were: where they came from and what motivated them. This tour examines the Conquest from an unusual perspective – that of William and his followers. Based around William’s hometown of Caen, the tour will visit sites such as his birthplace at Falaise Castle, the world-famous Bayeux Tapestry, and the Abbey Des Hommes, where William was eventually buried.Through visiting these sites your guide will be able to cover some of the key themes of the Medieval Realms topic: War, Revolt and Rebellion, Church and State and, of course, the Norman Conquest itself. As always, individual itineraries will be tailored to your needs. If you wish to make this a cross-curricular tour, it is possible to combine it with visits to other locations, such as Mont St Michel, the D-Day landing beaches, and cultural sites such as a cider farm or cheese factory. A Normandy tour is a perfect option for combining with the Modern Languages Department to enhance students’ understanding of French language and culture. This tour could be combined with ANGLIA’s ‘Battle of Hastings’ day visit to provide a comprehensive study of the Conquest – please contact us for details.

The Hundred Years War – Agincourt and CrécyThis two-day tour takes students to two of the most famous battlefields in English history – Agincourt and Crécy.

Students will have the opportunity to stand where Edward III, the Black Prince and Henry V stood;to walk the battlefields in the company of an expert guide; and to learn about the leadership and tactics of Edward and Henry, thetriumph of the long bow and the fatal errors made by the French. It may be possible to extend the tour to include a visit to the beautifulmedieval town of Rouen, an English town during the 100 Years War and site of the execution of Joan of Arc. We can also cover the siege of Calais. As always, it is possible to combinethis tour with visits to otherhistorical or cultural sites in the Pas-de-Calais region if you wish to run this as a cross-curricular tour.

Themes:

What methods were used to both attack and defend these castles?

The Battle of Hastings and the Norman ConquestIf there is one date in English history that everyone knows, it is 1066. In the space of just two weeks three major battles were fought that were to decide the fate of England.

On 14th October, on Senlac Hill at what is now Battle in Sussex, a battle took place for an incredible prize: the throne of England. By dusk that night hundreds of men lay dead, strewn across the hillside, among them the king of England. His Saxon followers were defeated, dispersed and in disarray, and the Norman victors were able to begin a programme of conquest that would soon see England under the yoke of an oppressive foreign aristocracy.

Visiting Battle Abbey and the battlefield, plus either Pevensey or Bodiam Castle, this tour will cover the following topics:

Medieval EnglandRochester is the perfect setting for a cross-curricular tour combining elements of history, literature, architecture and art. In particular it provides an excellent opportunity to study two of the key themes of the medieval period – ‘Revolt and Rebellion’ and ‘Church and State’. The Home Front

The Home Front 2010 sees the 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain, and ANGLIA is pleased to mark this landmark occasion by focussing on the heroic efforts of ‘the few’. Between July and October 1940 the RAF fought off waves of attacks by the Luftwaffe, despite being heavily outnumbered. Their hard-fought victory saw the postponement of Hitler’s Operation Sealion, the planned invasion of Britain, and the fateful switch of focus east to the Soviet Union. For students studying the Second World War, or Britain at War, ANGLIA can combine a visit to the Cabinet War Rooms and the Imperial War Museum with a walking tour of London, visiting sites connected to the Blitz.

For those interested in Britain’s wider role in the Second World War, ANGLIA can arrange tours in the UK examining the role of the Royal Navy and the Fleet Air Arm. Visits can include HMS Belfast, Chatham and Portsmouth Historic Dockyards, and the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton.

We are committed to ensuring that our tours comply with the latest DfE guidelines that relate to Heath and Safety on educational visits. These guidelines state:

Your LEA or governing body - should advise you to ask tour operators for a copy of their Safety Management System.

A Safety Management System - should clearly set out how a tour operator manages safety for the component parts of the visit that they will be providing. In particular, all tour operators should be able to show that they have carried out full safety checks on accomodation and transport.

As a tour operator, we can - provide details of independent checks made by qualified external organizations on our Safety Management System.

In addition we can state that all ANGLIA guides undergo CRB checks through Essex County Council’s Disclosures Unit.

These guidelines also explain that teachers taking trips abroad have a duty of care to follow the advice of their LEA or governing body and that Head Teachers should ensure that tour operators used by their school have had their credentials and accreditations verified. Our Safety Management System is helping to improve the safety standards on school tours. Our policy of giving a formal evening presentation to students, their parents and teaching staff before each residential tour goes out is a great source of reassurance to both parents and teachers alike. Very few tour operators do this, in spite of the fact that it is a specific recommendation of the DfE guidelines.

What does our Safety Management System encompass?Coach Operators – all coaches we use are subject to regular inspections, not only for their documentation but also for their safety features. Drivers are also checked for their driving experience and evidence of a criminal record.

Accommodation – all the accommodation we use complies with EU and local safety regulations. Local regulations in various Europeans countries do differ. As a result, the Directors have personally visited all the core accommodation units used by Anglia and run a rolling programme of visits by senior guides of all other accommodation.

Pre tour presentation – Prior to any residential tour, a member of ABT staff will come to the school and give an evening presentation to the students, their parents and teaching staff. This presentation gives an overall view of the aims of the tour and more specific details concerning safety, food and accommodation.

24-hour Emergency Assistance – Anglia Tours Ltd is one of the only schools tours operator which, as a matter of course, puts guides on all of its tours. In an emergency they are the first point of contact. They are supported, in turn, by a Duty Officer, available 24 hours a day on a mobile number issued to the lead teacher by their guide. In the unlikely event of a major emergency an incident room would be set up at the ABT offices and manned to give fast, efficient and coordinated responses.

Our Safety Management System is tried, tested and robust. It has been externally verified by a suitably qualified independent Health and Safety professional and will continue to be verified on an annual basis.
