Bedbug Identification
• Size - appleseed• Color – reddish brown• Shape – flat & oval• Males - pointed abdomens• Females - rounded abdomens.• Odor – sweet & musty• Movement - crawl

Life Cycle
• Eggs– Pear-shaped & white– 300 in one female’s lifetime– Attach to surfaces & hatch within 10-14 days
• Nymphs – “Young” bedbugs– Smaller & lighter in color– Stage lasts 6 weeks
• Adult

Bedbug Feeding
•Live on human or animal blood
•Feed at night
•Pierce skin and suck blood
•Feed for 3-12 minutes
•Swell and turn bright red after feedings
•Can live over a year without feeding

Bedbug Bites
• Similar to mosquito bites
• Red with darkened center
• May take a few days to show up

Bedbug Bites
• Symptoms– Itching– Swelling– Painless
• Common Sites– Arms & Legs– Face & Neck
• Treatment– Soap and water– Anti-itch cream (to avoid scratching)– Should resolve within 3-10 days without treatment

Prevention of Bedbugs
• Eliminate clutter
• Vacuum regularly
• Report cracks, crevices, and holes to be sealed
• Inspect secondhand items before bringing home
• Place protectors over pillows, mattresses, and box springs

If You See Bedbugs…
• Report to management IMMEDIATELY!
• Clean & vacuum area• Wash clothes & linens in HOT water• Dry in HIGH heat for 20 minutes• Limit visitors to prevent spreading• Last Resort: discard infested belongings
