ABSTRACT In most modern industries there is a growing need for

high efficiency and availability in motor driver systems.

Moreover, motor operation monitoring is necessary for the implementation of proper and cost effective motor maintenance.

In this research, a PLC-based protection method for three-phase induction motors is used .

The PLC automated process costs less, provides higher accuracy. The PLC correlates and controls the operational parameters to the set point requested by the user and monitor the motor.

INTRODUCTION

o Main aim of this research based project is to design a motor driver system with the help of PLC to control induction motor and protect induction motor from possible faults .

o All operational data is provided by a device that is able to read line currents, line-to-line voltages, unbalanced current, unbalance voltage and temperature.

o This systems are equipped with special I/O units appropriate for direct usage in industrial automation systems

PROGRAMMABLE LOGIC CONTROLLER

A PLC is a small computer used for automation of real world processes, such as control of machinery on factory assembly lines.

It was originally developed to replace mechanical relay, timers, counters.

Its purpose to monitor crucial parameters & adjust process operation accordingly.

PLC COMPONENTS Sensors - converts a physical

condition into an electrical signal.

Discrete Input/output- referred to as a digital input/output, is an input/output that is either in an ON or OFF condition.

Analog Input/output:-An analog input/output is a continuous, variable signal.

CPU :- is a microprocessor system that contains the system memory & decision making unit.

RS-232 CABLE it is a serial communication physical

interface through which information transfers in or out one bit at a time.

it provides the connection between PLC and computer system.

CURRENT & VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER

A current transformer is a type of "instrument transformer" that is designed to provide a current in its secondary which is accurately proportional to the current flowing in its primary.

Voltage transformers (VT) or potential transformers (PT) are another type of instrument transformer, used for metering and protection in high-voltage circuits.

FUTURE SCOPE This paper presents a part of an ongoing

work.

In all growing industries ,there is need of motor driver systems to control and monitor of induction motor from one central point using PLC .

This motor driver system will identified the fault and protect the motor within a second

.

CONCLUSION

In this study, a novel digital protection system for three phase Induction motor designed and implemented successfully.

If any fault is observed during online operation of the motor, a warning message appears on computer and then the motor is stopped.

it provides a visual environment, which makes the system more user friendly than other protection system.
