during the short-term follow-up, with 6 cystic fat nodules.

The satisfaction rate for sexual function, morphology andglobal state were 79.8%, 78.9%, and 91.7%.

Conclusions: Our technique shows very effective short-

term outcomes and patient’s satisfaction without seriouscomplications.

62A case of 47,XXY/46,XY Klinefelter syndrome

Klinefelter syndrome represents the most commonly

found human sex chromosomal abnormality. It ischaracterized by small, firm testes with hyalinization

of the seminiferous tubules, elevated gonadotropins

and azoospermia. Males with Klinefelter syndrome mayhave a 47,XXY or a mosaic 47,XXY/46,XY constitutional

karyotype and varying degrees of spermatogenic failure.

Mosaicism 47,XXY/46,XX with clinical features suggestiveof Klinefelter syndrome is very rare. We report here

a case of a mosaic 47,XXY/46,XX infertile male. Thepatient was a 31-year-old male. Physical examination

revealed perfect male-type of genitalia, almost normal

penis and bilateral small testicles, being 1.0 × 2.0 × 1.0 cmsized for the right and 1.0 × 2.0 × 1.0 cm for the left.

Chromosome analysis by means of culture of peripheral

blood lymphocytes revealed twokinds of 46 chromosomesand of 47 chromosomes. The genotype of the former was

XX and of the later was XXY, making XX/XXY mosaicism.Testicular sperm extraction was performed, but we

could find the sperm in microdissection testicular sperm

extraction procedure. Histologically the testicle showedatrophy of seminiferous tubules with hyalinizaition of

the canaliculi. No spermatogenesis was observed at all.

63Coenzyme Q10 treatment foroligoasthenoteratozoospemia in infertile men withvaricoceleY. Kobori, H. Okada, G. Arai, S. Soh, H. Yagi. DokkyoMedical University Koshigaya Hospital, Department of Urology,Japan

Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of coenzyme Q10

treatment in improving semen quality in men who havevaricocele with infertility.

Patients: Sixty-nine infertile patients (21–51 years of age)

with the following baseline sperm selection criteria:concentration <20 × 10(6)/mL, sperm forward motility

<50%, and normal sperm morphology >30%. Patientsunderwent therapy with coenzyme Q10, 30mg/day.

We investigated seminograms, background, hormonal

analyses. We also investigated the modern ART used toovercome sterility.

Results: Coenzyme Q10 and ubiquinol increased

significantly sperm concentration, aswell as spermatozoamotility. Intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) was

performed 2 patients, varicocelectomy was performed1 patient, and total 10 patients are resulted pregnancy.

Conclusions:The exogenous administration of coenzyme

Q10 increases the level of the same and ubiquinol

in semen and is effective in improving sperm

kinetic features in patients affected by idiopathicasthenozoospermia with valicocele.

Background: Women can play a significant role in their

partner’s life and influence their health. Their perception

of men’s health may have important implications. Objectives: To determine women’s perception of men’s

health, and their role and responsibilities to men’shealth.

Materials and methods: This is a qualitative study

utilizing 6 focus groups of 62 women aged between40–60 years. A qualitative data management software,

NVIVO 2, was utilized. Content analysis was used toextract themes emerging from the group discussions.

Results: Women viewed men’s health as very important

to them because of men’s role as the provider in thefamily. However, they reported varied attitudes of their

husbands on their own current health status; rangingfrom a ‘could not care less’ attitude to very health

conscious attitude. Some of them also reported men did

not take action to maintain their health. As men wereoften decision makers, women usually were often unable

to change their husband’s health care practices. Mostwomen realized their role as wife and partner in life and

their contribution in providing a supportive environment

for their husbands’ health. Many bear the primaryresponsibility in the health care of their husband and

are advocates for husbands’ health care. They motivatedtheir husbands to practice healthier lifestyles. Women

played a key role in men’s health care through educationand awareness. They felt that men tend to participate in

preventive health care less than women.

Conclusions: Women viewed themselves as the keypersons in taking responsibility of men’s health, although

they often were unable to change men’s health carepractices.
