2018 Funding for Non-Government Schools in NSW
In 2018 all non-government schools will receive more per student funding from the State than they did in 2017.
Q1 How will NSW non-government schools be funded in 2018?
• In 2018 all non-government schools will receive 2017 per student funding, indexed at 3%.
• New schools opening in 2018 will be funded at 20% of their Schooling Resource Standard (SRS).
Q2 When will schools be advised how much funding they will receive in 2018?
• The Department has emailed schools and systems to advise them of their 2018 per student funding.
Q3 Why hasn’t my school been advised how much State funding it will receive in 2018?
• All independent schools and systems in NSW should have received an email from the Department advising them of their 2018 per student funding arrangements. If your school is not part of a system and has not received a 2018 funding notification email, please contact [email protected].
• As the Catholic system determines how funding will be distributed between its schools, Catholic systemic schools seeking advice about their specific allocation should contact the Catholic Education Commission NSW.
Q4 How will capital funding be distributed in 2018?
• Capital funding is not included in the per student allocations.
• The Building Grants Assistance Scheme (BGAS) will continue as planned and ongoing commitments under the former Interest Subsidy Scheme will also be maintained.
Q5 What changes have the Commonwealth made to funding?
• Funding for non-government schools in NSW was previously tied to the National Education Reform Agreement (NERA).
• The Commonwealth has unilaterally ended the NERA and introduced a new school funding model.

• Funding arrangements beyond 2018 are yet to be finalised, as these will be impacted by the new Commonwealth schools funding arrangements.

Non-government school funding in 2018
Per Student FundingIn 2018 per student funding will include 2017 Per Capita funding and Additionality, indexed at 3%.
Supervisor Subsidy Scheme (SSS) This provides funding towards the salaries of teachers and supervisors in non-government special schools catering for students with a moderate to severe intellectual disability or Autism Spectrum Disorder.
Literacy and Numeracy Action PlanPhase 2 funding will continue to be provided to the Catholic and independent sectors in 2018 as planned. The Phase 2 Action Plan aims to improve the literacy and numeracy of Kindergarten to Year 2 students.
