This year has been an exciting one! As a result of efforts across the country, the number of people reported as experiencing homelessness is down by 17% since 2005, despite a housing crisis and a recession. Because of the collective efforts of government, the nonprofit sector, and philanthropy to maximize the impact of every dollar and moment spent on preventing and ending homelessness, this astounding decline was possible. As the only national network of funders committed to ending homelessness, we know that funders have an incredible capacity to be catalysts for change. Our mission: harness philanthropy’s expanding potential for impact and change to help end homelessness. Our power to convene stakeholders, align systems, drive innovation, advocate for funding, and influence the adoption of best practices uniquely positions us to spur the continued decline of homelessness in America. Your catalytic power is precisely why Funders Together to End Homelessness exists: to create a space for funders to come together and learn from each other; to share resources and experience and create a collective voice for change; and to ensure that every dollar we spend to prevent and end homelessness accomplishes just that. In 2013, we have made significant progress in these areas, as outlined in this report. Together, we can change the conversations around homelessness on local, regional, and national levels, and ultimately end and prevent homelessness in our country.

A pivotal success for Funders Together was our first Funders Institute in July 2013. Hosted in conjunction with the
National Alliance to End Homelessness’ 2013 National Conference on Ending Homelessness, participants from 19
states, Canada, and Great Britain participated in the first national
convening geared specifically toward foundations and United Ways.
“New connections, great information, fun format!” “I felt this was a convening that was needed for me in the work that I do. We don’t have many funders of this work in [my state] so it was great to meet and hear from other funders across the country.”
Collaboration and partnerships are at the heart of our approach to ending and preventing homelessness.
Launched in 2010 and 2011, respectively, the Los Angeles Homeless Funders Group and Funders Together Houston organized intentionally as public-private
funders collaboratives in order to align efforts, build upon each other’s strengths, leverage resources, and work at a
systems level to end homelessness.
In December 2013, Funders Together San Diego launched to expand philanthropic engagement in ending homelessness in San Diego County, which is home to the
nation’s third largest homeless population.
The Funders Together Learning Series is designed to inform funders’
efforts, including convening, relationship building, grantmaking, and advocacy. In 2013, we added
dozens of briefing documents, toolkits, and blog posts on topics such as
systems change, effective grantmaking, youth homelessness,
and sequestration.
“I have used at least a half dozen of [Funders Together’s] written documents for a training I am doing for the local housing authority. Because they are short at 4 – 6 pages, but well written and detailed, they resonate well ...”
Our networking events provide members with the opportunity to develop strategic
relationships, exchange valuable information, and highlight their work.
In 2013, we hosted and facilitated 15 events in 11 cities in conjunction with major conferences on philanthropy and
homelessness, as well as by request.
“Our family foundation is very involved in convening local funders and key community stakeholders ... Funders Together members have been invaluable mentors to us in this effort, traveling to our community to share their expertise and examples of best practices from around the nation.”
Working in partnership with the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness
and private philanthropy, Funders Together coordinated an evaluation of the first national Point-in-Time Count
of unsheltered youth. The data collected from this nine-city initiative, called Youth Count!, will help inform
best practices across the United States.
Funders Together helped private philanthropy align its work and resources with the government framework set forth in the Homeless Emergency Assistance
and Rapid Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act. Working together, we can create a coordinated emergency response
system that finds housing quickly and permanently for those in need.
Our Funding Partners support our operations, member services, and advocacy because they believe that philanthropy can be mobilized to end homelessness. Because of them, Funders Together is poised to lead the charge. Thank you for your continued support.

“It’s about bringing funders together to promote an efficient and effective system. We know the building blocks, we know what needs
to be done, we just have to do it. We can’t solve homelessness until we get the money and resources aligned. We need to get as
many stakeholders pulling in the right direction as possible.”
