Eucalyptus

Eucalyptus essential oil comes from the leaves of a majestic tree native to Australia, that grows between 30 and 55 metres tall. Its refreshing and familiar scent conjures up memories of the spa and invigorating feelings. It is one of the best essential oils and natural remedies used to open the airways and protect the lungs from harmful pathogens. We like to think that these benefits may come from the grandeur of its source.

Eucalyptus oil is commonly used for respiratory conditions such as pharyngitis, bronchitis, sinusitis, and asthma. Its medicinal ingredients can easily be delivered to the airways through steam inhalation. Many of the antimicrobial actions come from the constituents 1,8-cineole, limonene, and alpha-pinene.

Research has shown these to be protective against Haemophilus influenzae, Staphylococcus spp., and Streptococcus spp. viruses, which are common causes of respiratory tract infections. Eucalyptus oil does have a drying action on the mucous membranes, so if you inhale too much, it may cause mild irritation to these surfaces.

Eucalyptus has also been shown to improve working memory and focus. One study exhibited the combination of peppermint and eucalyptus oils to be beneficial for memory. This therapeutic tandem also proved to promote a relaxed mental state.

So, next time you are suffering from a cough and congestion, you may find the relief you need in eucalyptus essential oil.

Lavender

IngredientsEach drop contains:Organic lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia) (herb top flowering) . . . . . . 100%

A pleasant and therapeutic floral aroma that calms the anxious mind and aids with sleep.

› Helps relieve anxiety symptoms

› Promotes a sense of calmness

› Helps to induce sleep

› Relieves stress-related headaches

› Improves mood

› Exerts anti-inflammatory effects when applied topically

The deep blue-violet colours of lavender and the sway of flowers in lavender fields have a special way of calming the anxious mind. This is only half the story, though; the other half is when you inhale the floral aroma and receive its medicinal benefits. Research has confirmed that even inhaling the scent produces calming, soothing, and sedative effects. One study looked at the continuous exposure to lavender essential oil for seven days as being effective in significantly inhibiting anxiety and depression-like symptoms.

Steam-distilled from the fresh flowers of the lavender plant Lavendula angustifolia (true lavender), New Roots Herbal’s 100% pure organic lavender essential oil ensures you are getting the highest-quality medicinal ingredients in the purest form. The two major components of lavender oil released in aromatherapy are

linalool and linalyl acetate. A study comparing the anxiolytic effects of lavender to benzodiazepines like chlordiazepoxide and diazepam (Valium) showed equal efficacy; however, there were fewer side effects when using the lavender oil. Another study investigated the effect lavender aromatherapy had on anxiety and depression in high-risk postpartum women. During this trial, they found significant improvement of the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale and Generalized Anxiety Disorder Scale scores after just four weeks of use.

Whether you are having trouble falling asleep or staying asleep, lavender is a great choice to improve your sleep quality as well as to treat insomnia. Even at doses as low as six to eight drops added to a diffuser close to a bed, lavender essential oil may be your natural and effective solution to get a good night’s sleep.

Peppermint

IngredientsEach drop contains:Organic peppermint essential oil (Mentha × piperita) (from flowering twig) . . . . . . . 100%

A stimulating and fresh aroma that helps cool down inflamed joints and muscles.

› Used for alleviating headaches

› Invigorating and stimulating

› Soothes rheumatism, sprains, and strains

› Helps relieve nausea

› Increases focus and attention

Peppermint is arguably one of the most well-known scents in aromatherapy. Its cooling effect elicits images of forest-green peppermint leaves covered in a morning frost. Mentha × piperita is the species employed for New Roots Herbal’s 100% pure organic peppermint oil, which includes menthol, its primary active constituent.

Menthol has been shown to increase alertness and enhance memory, for those days when you need a little extra focus and productivity. In addition to helping with cognitive function, it can also benefit other ailments such as tension headaches. In a placebo-controlled, double-blind, crossover study, applying peppermint oil topically to the temples and forehead 15–30 minutes after the onset of a headache has been shown to provide symptomatic relief.

If you are suffering from nausea and vomiting, peppermint oil may

be the healing remedy you need. Mentha × piperita has antiemetic and antispasmodic actions in the body. There have been studies examining its efficacy for morning sickness from pregnancy, chemotherapy-induced nausea, and postoperative nausea; all have shown a benefit from peppermint use.

Try rubbing a few drops on the back of your neck, your temples, and the soles of your feet, or place a cool compress over your head to help with your symptoms.

Peppermint essential oil has been shown to be a great way to relieve your aching and sore muscles. You can apply it to those inflamed muscles by using a carrier oil like coconut, tamanu, jojoba, or argan oil, just to name a few. Combining peppermint essential oil with a carrier oil will allow a gentle or deep-tissue massage to relieve the aching.
