The Story of Corranderk

• First, they lived in Aboriginal reserve in 1863 for Kulin people

• It started to produce hop in 1872• They were helped by John Green until 1874 –

when he was forced to resignafter argument with Victorian Givernment

• Many envy their success, European believe their ‘manifold destiny’

• Then, after several disagreeements with the government:–Government inquiry & subsequent

report in 1882–Victorian Aborigines Act in 1886

• Finally, it was officially CLOSED in 1924

• Before European came, –The Islanders traded with Cape York

Aborigines & Papua New Guinea–Had their own religious cults–Practice calling up the spirit of recently
