Expanded Beam Principle

Expanded Beam ProductsProduct Facts PRO BEAM Sr., PRO BEAM

Jr. and PRO BEAM MiniConnector field deployableinterconnects

ARINC 600 connectors, withinserts/holder blocksdesigned for Mini ExpandedBeam — up to 128 channelson size 3 ARINC 600

MIL-C-38999 Series III shell size 11 and 15 stylecircular connectors — Cable assemblies up to 8 fibers

Unique Modular Design, for use with multimode andsinglemode fiber

 Tactical cables, cable reels,backpacks

 Cable assembly and termination services

Ball lens expands cross-sectional area of light over200 times for multimodeand over 2000 times for singlemode

Rugged hermaphroditic construction (i.e., sameinsert mates to each other)

Physically non-contactingmating conditions; no wear, installed fiber ferrule protected by ball lens

Key Features

Fiber Optic Interconnect/Cable System usingExpanded Beam technology, which physically expandsand collimates the transmis-sion signal into an opticalbeam over 14 times its original diameter (the crosssectional area of the lightbeam increases over 200times for multimode opticalsignals). For singlemodesignals, the collimatedbeam is over 45 times its

original diameter (the cross-sectional area of the lightbeam increases over 2,000times.). It is then refocusedback down onto the core ofthe receiving fiber. Thisapproach provides ease of alignment and low sensitivity to thermalchanges and contamination.High strength, precision con-nector housings enhance a durable connection, optimizing low loss andrepeatable performance.

Applications

Suitable for field-deployablecommunications, marineship-to-shore applications, security systems, mobilediagnostic units, oil and gas exploration and otherharsh environment applica-tions demanding strength, durability and reliable performance in conditionsof multiple coupling/decouplings, blindmate situations, and high vibration.
