Fiber Optic Interconnect/Cable System usingExpanded Beam technology,which physically expandsand collimates the transmis-sion signal into an opticalbeam over 14 times its original diameter (the crosssectional area of the lightbeam increases over 200times for multimode opticalsignals). For singlemodesignals, the collimatedbeam is over 45 times its

original diameter (the cross-sectional area of the lightbeam increases over 2,000times.). It is then refocusedback down onto the core ofthe receiving fiber. Thisapproach provides ease of alignment and low sensitivity to thermalchanges and contamination.High strength, precision con-nector housings enhance a durable connection, optimizing low loss andrepeatable performance.

The TE Connectivity HandHeld Visual Fault Locator(VFL) is a rugged andaffordable solution for identi-fying breaks and bending in optical fibers and cabling.Its powerful, red (650 nm)laser provides the ability tolocate damaged, broken, ortightly bent fibers that causeundesirable attenuation inyour system.

The jacket of the cable willglow red at the location ofthe fault. The FLASH button

allows the user to togglebetween continuous orpulsed mode. The compact,rugged, and balanceddesign is based upon apopular harsh environmentfiber optic connector. Thesingle “AA” style battery isgood for >30 hours of con-tinuous use and the soft-sided protective case withbelt loop provides a con-venient and protectivemeans of storage.
