Drill pipe

Is a hollow, thick-walled, steel piping. Comes in variety of sizes, strength of weights (30-33 feet's)

To allow drilling fluid to be prepared through them, down the hand back up the annulus

Casing

A steel pipe placed in an oil/ gas well as drilling is in progress

Function: to prevent the wall of the hole from caving

during drilling

to provide a mean of extracting petroleum

Type of casing: Surface Casing

Intermediate Casing

Production Casing

Surface Casing

The casing must be set before drilling can continue further

Function

to protect shallow freshwater aquifers from contamination

to support the unconsolidated, low pressure formations and to

prevent drilling mud loss to provide a base for well control equipment

Intermediate Casing

One or more intermediate casing can be set depending onthunderground conditions

Function

Production Casing

Casing runs all the way from the productive zone to the surf

Is a long string of smallest diameter that completes the wellconnecting to the reservoir. Also known as oil string.

Function: To seal off the pay zone from adjacent layers

Used to producing oil or gas and also hold the other equipment doto prevent caving

Tubing

Is a small diameter pipe (2-3 inches) Set in production casing

Function

Convey the product from producing zone to surface

Convey fluids from surface to producing zone
