one blanket that’s 59” wide and 71” longReally simple to put together. The only challenge is dealing with the extra large pieces.

This project is just a basic take on a blanket made from super-soft cuddle fabric on one side and flannel on the other. It’s perfect for a begin-ner’s third or fourth project and can be whipped up in a few hours. It’s simple but allows for enough creative interpretation to make it a fantastic gift!

3. Print out the project pattern, page 61. Prewash your fabrics, especially if you’re using cotton flannel. This fabric tends to shrink in the wash.

2. Trim the selvedges from your washed flannel.

To prepare your flannel side of the blanket, first it needs to be cut up and sewn into panels. Begin by cutting the flannel yardage in half widthwise. If your fabric was prewashed and trimmed, the measurements will be something like 38” x 72”.

Take one of the panels from the previous step and cut two lengthwise strips from the fabric, both 12” wide.

The larger 14” panel leftover is scrap and won’t be used in this project.

Take the two 12” narrow panels and sew them to each side of the larger 38” panel from step 1.

Use ½” seam allowances and the end result will be the front of your blanket; a 60” x 72” rectangle.

Take your flannel (the blanket front), and your cuddle fabric (the blanket back) and align them together with right sides facing.

If the flannel is slightly bigger than the cuddle fabric, take the time to trim off the excess so everything is the same size.

Align the corners carefully, then use the cutting template pattern to cut a curved edge from the layers of fabric.

Pin the fabric layers together all the way around the blanket.

Sew around the perimeter of the blanket, leaving a 5”-7” space open along one edge so you can turn the blanket right side out later.

When finished, turn the blanket right side out and press it lightly from the flannel side, so as not to crush the fur of the cuddle fabric.

Tuck under the seam allowances from the opening you left in step 5

and press those lightly as well.

Sew around the perimeter of the blanket once again, about 3/8” away from the edge. This should also sew closed the opening from step 5.

This finishes the blanket! An optional step is to ‘stitch-in-the-ditch’ the seams from step 3 through all the blanket layers. This will make the blanket feel more cohesive when it’s being cuddled!
