KIAORA PLACE IS DESIGNED TO REVITALISE DOUBLE BAY WITH REDEVELOPMENTS BEING CARRIED OUT ON THE WOOLWORTHS SITE ON NEW SOUTH HEAD ROAD, COUNCIL'S KIAORA LANE AND ANDERSON STREET CAR PARKS, AND A NUMBER OF PROPERTIES IN KIAORA ROAD AND PATTERSON STREET.

The redevelopment includes new retail shops, Woolworths supermarket and grocery stores, cafes and speciality shops. It will also include a 2,300 square metre new Double Bay Library (due to open in early 2016), giving residents access to state-of-the-art facilities.

These businesses are all supported by a new car park that provides a total of 442 public parking spaces.

Stage 1 of the development has been completed and the new flagship Woolworths Supermarket, Dan Murphy's, Little Jean Bistro and AboutLife Natural Marketplace are now open.

Construction of stage 2 is underway and when complete it will include a three storey public library, retail arcade (approx. 20 specialty shops), two levels of commercial office space and a landscaped public plaza.

Fronting the plaza will be 'Mistelle' wine bar, Bake Bar Organic Artisan bakery/cafe and Zen modern Chinese restaurant. Internal fit-out of the library, commercial and retail spaces will be completed by early 2016.

This exciting development is expected to generate an extra $100 million in revenue for the local economy every year and create up to 300 new jobs.

It will create a dynamic and vibrant commercial hub that will make Double Bay a go-to destination for residents, shoppers and tourists.

It will also give Council ownership of a significant, long term revenue generating asset that will have significant benefits for residents, allowing us to invest more money in infrastructure and services.

StorycoverTHE LIBRARY HAS BEEN CLEVERLY DESIGNED OVER THREE LEVELS USING A FLEXIBLE FLOOR PLAN FOR CHANGING FUTURE NEEDS AND INCORPORATING THE USE OF ZONES FOR DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS.

Level 1 as the main entrance to the Library will be the welcoming, vibrant and interactive zone, with spaces for children, including wet areas for craft; the quick browsing collection for the most popular Library titles and an event space, which includes a multi-function room that can be divided into two spaces each with access to a kitchenette.

Level 2 will have a youth space, public access computer hub and IT training room, and the majority of the Adult Library collection, with reading nooks and a range of different seating options.

Level 3 will be the quieter, more contemplative space allowing for research and study. It will include two small meetings rooms for up to 8 people, study nooks and a large quiet study room for over 30 people, as well as the Local History collection, and the Library staff workroom.

The essence of the design has been the concept of "a garden within a Library" which respects the relationship of the former St Brigid’s Library and Blackburn Gardens, and

the Library as a community hub with a variety of spaces for undertaking different activities and services.

Many of the Library’s current programs will continue, such as Children’s Rhyme Time and StoryTime, as well as the popular Writers & Readers events and Tea Topics. However with the creation of new spaces, there will be opportunities for technology and eResource training in the IT training rooms as well as gaming and other youth specific programs within the Library. The Library aims to develop partnerships with like minded organisations to enhance the depth of programs and services available within the Library.

Through the introduction of new technology and an excellent WiFi service, the Library will promote a self service philosophy with an automated returns unit, self checkout kiosks on all floors, online membership and a PC/Room booking and payment system service. The clever use of technology will allow Library staff time to provide high quality customer service and reader’s advice. The Library will also be a place where small business can book meeting rooms, meet people and collaborate, and access resources.

The new Library will be open 9am to 8pm Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm, on weekends.

METHODPeel and chop the onion and sweet potato, peel and finely grate the ginger, then peel and crush the garlic.Heat the oil in a large pan over a low heat. Add the onion and a small pinch of sea salt and cook for 10 minutes, or until soft and sweet, stirring often.Stir in the sweet potato, ginger, garlic and crushed cardamom seeds. Cook for 2 minutes, before adding the coconut milk. Let it simmer for 1 to 2 minutes, then stir in the stock. Cover with a lid, and leave to simmer gently for 15 minutes. Liquidise the soup with a stick blender until smooth, then season to taste with a pinch of salt and black pepper and a squeeze of lemon juice. To make the red pepper topping, heat the oil in a frying pan, then roughly crush and add the coriander seeds and add the chilli flakes. Cook for 1 minute, or until lovely and fragrant.Rinse and finely slice the peppers, then add to the spices with the spinach. Continue cooking until the spinach has wilted down, then season and stir in the toasted coconut flakes. Ladle the soup into bowls, finishing with red pepper topping, then serve with broken up pieces of pappadoms on the side.

• 1 lemon • red pepper topping • 1 tablespoon groundnut oil • 1 teaspoon coriander seeds • 1 pinch of dried chilli flakes • 2 jarred roasted peppers • 100 g baby spinach • 4 large or 12 mini pappadoms

High-school mates Dan Courtnall and Nick Longworth launched CampNow late last year. Despite both having full-time jobs, they set up the website to help others escape their daily routines without forking out for an entire kit.

CampNow offers four kinds of simple camping rental packages, all of which can be delivered to and picked up from your home or work (in certain areas). If you’re

heading to the Splendour or Secret Garden festivals, try the Festival Package, a trim kit for two including a two-person tent, a queen-sized air mattress and pillows, fold-up chairs, head torches, an Esky and a first-aid kit.
