2 XIVÈME
SYMPOSIUM INTERNATIONAL ENVIRONNEMENT, CATALYSE ET GÉNIE DES PROCÉDÉS
Douai, 5-7 décembre 2017
PREFACE Après le succès de plus
d’une vingtaine de
rencontres internationales

On a

The search for renewable energy currently leads the development of photovoltaic cells where
organic conductive materials can play a vital role due to their ability to separate the electron-
hole pairs and carry these loads to the electrodes in specific electronic configurations.
In this work, Theoretical study on the geometries, electronic properties and absorption spectra
of these five conjugated compounds based on thiophene are studied by Density Functional
Theory (DFT) method at B3LYP level with 6-31G(d,p) basis set. The absorption properties were
calculated starting at the optimized structures are calculated using TD-B3LYP/6-31G(d,p)
method. The HOMO, LUMO, Gap energy, Voc, ionization potentials (IP)/electron affinities (EA)
and λmax of these compounds have been calculated and reported in this paper. The objective
of this study; is to evidence the relationship between chemical structure of these organic
materials and their properties optoelectronic and photovoltaic of ways has conceive thereafter
the compounds with effective character for solar cells.
Keywords: Renewable Energy, Density Functional Theory, properties optoelectronic,
photovoltaic, solar cells.

The valorization of non-submersible marine sediments of the harbour of Dunkirk (Grand Port
Maritime de Dunkerque, GPMD) as a new aggregate presents alternative solutions for a better
management in the field of civil engineering. This study focus on the valorization study of
marine sediment in road engineering (laboratory and in situ). The objective of the study is to
demonstrate the feasibility of valorisation of marine sediments in road building. This study aims
at proposing a methodology of valorisation based on valuation parameters, physical, chemical
and mechanical alternative materials made from dredged sediment. The valorisation of marine
sediment in foundation layer is considered.and it is proposed a mixture of 1/3 of marine
sediment and 2/3 of dredged sand, the mixture treated with lime and an hydraulic binder.
Another objective of this laboratory work is to predict the mechanical behavior and the
environmental aspect of the proposed mix design based on non-submersible sediment on short
and long terms. The study was conducted in two phases. The first phase took place in the
laboratory to discover the behavior of sediment introduced into the road formulation and
evaluation of these mechanical and environmental performance in order to prove the possibility
of use in road building. The second phase is to apply the mix design in the laboratory to the field
by performing a first experimental road in France at Freycinet 12 to Dunkirk. A study of the
mechanical behavior and environmental monitoring is carried out on cores taken at 60 and 360
days.

which is used as aroma in the food industry, is usually catalyzed by liquid bases. The substitution
of the homogeneous base by solids in the process is highly desirable to preserve environment.
To reach this objective, a series of hydrotalcites containing different interlayer anions MgAl-An-
(An- : NO3-, CO3
2-, CH3CO2-), have been synthesized by co-precipitation method. Their derived
mixed oxides obtained by thermal treatment at 723 K in a flow of air have been tested in the
aldol condensation of furfural and acetone in the liquid phase at 363 K without solvent.
There are significant differences in the catalytic activity of these mixed oxides because they
indicate a significant effect of the interlamellar anions on the activity of the hydrotalcites
precursors. An influence of interlayer anions on the structural properties of the hydrotalcites,
such as interlayer distance, was determined by X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD), and the
existence of the bands corresponding to the different compensation anions is confirmed by
infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The specific surface area and pore volume of the corresponding
hydrotacite precursor were determined by nitrogen adsorption (BET).
The kinetic study of the reaction was carried through performing sampling at regular intervals;
the samples were analyzed by gas chromatography.
The Hydrotalcites with high charge density (CO32-) within the interlayer and high specific surface
area lead to higher catalytic activity in their derived mixed oxides. On the contrary to acetate
(CH3CO2-) or inorganic-anions (NO3-) with low charge density, Hydrotalcites containing CO3
2- in
interlayer showed activity reaching 80% selectivity at a conversion of 99% in the case of the
mixed oxide obtained from the precursor MgAl-CO32- after 6 hours of reaction.

Water pollution by fluoride as a result of natural processes or anthropogenic activities has been
considered as one of the important problems worldwide. Due to permanent threat to human
health, fluoride removal from water of high fluoride concentration is recognized as urgent
necessity.
Fluoride removal in wastewater has been subject of many studies, that have better
progressively developed the aspects of toxicity on the human health and on the environment.
Conventional techniques like precipitation, coagulation, ion exchange and membrane processes
(electrodialysis, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration) are able to remove F- ions from aqueous
solution to various extents. Expensive or complicated regeneration, high initial cost, lack of
selectivity and insufficient F- ion removal are common disadvantages of these techniques.
Adsorption processes are very effective technologies which are able to separate many different
contaminants. Common adsorbents used for fluoride removal are: alumina and aluminum based
adsorbents, calcium based adsorbents, metal oxides or carbon based sorbents.
In this study, natural bentonite clay was used for fluoride adsorption from wastewater using
batch adsorption experiments. The aim was to implement the optimal parameters leading to
maximum fluoride removal efficiency. The compositional, structural and textural characteristics
of the natural bentonite clay were determined using accurate physicochemical and
mineralogical characterizations. The analysis of fluoride ions in the liquid phase was performed
using the potentiometric method with a fluoride-specific ion electrode. The effect of various
operational parameters such as contact time, initial fluoride concentration, adsorbent dose and
initial aqueous pH solution were evaluated under atmospheric conditions. The results obtained
from batch adsorption experiments showed a pH dependency of the natural bentonite clay
toward the fluoride adsorption. Maximum fluoride removal efficiency exceeded 50% under
acidic conditions.

Water pollution by organic non-biodegradable pollutants has increasingly become a serious
environmental issue and a real challenge for industries and thus the reduction of its
concentration in wastewaters to an acceptable level has become a necessity.
Among other wastewater treatment methods, advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have
attracted considerable attention, especially catalytic wet peroxide hydrogen oxidation process;
thanks to the generation of highly reactive and non-selective hydroxyl radicals (·OH) that can
oxidize and mineralize a wide range of organic compounds under moderate conditions [1]-[4].
The main objective of this study is to evaluate the CWPO of a phenolic compound such as p-
nitrophenol from aqueous solutions, using pillared Moroccan bentonite clay (PILC).
The choice of p-nitrophenol, also known as 4-nitrophenol (4-NP), is based on the fact that this
compound is one of the most challenging classes of contaminants requiring removal from
wastewater streams. It is used to manufacture drugs, fungicides, insecticides, and dyes and is
recognized as persistent organic pollutant, bioaccumulative and highly toxic [5]-[7].
The preparation of Al-PILC and Cu-PILC, with different metal pillaring percentage, was carried
out following a conventional pillaring method. Tests were carried out in a batch reactor,
following along time the 4-NP degradation. A detailed parametric study was done, changing one
variable at a time, while keeping the others constant. Among the variables studied (temperature,
catalyst dose, and initial concentration of H2O2 or 4-NP). Optimum conditions were determined
to be 3 g L−1 catalyst, 10 mM H2O2, 50°C T and 50 mg L−1 p-NP. More than 90% of p-NP was
experimentally degraded after 4 h of reaction time under the optimum conditions.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance of natural clays for adsorption of
nitrate ions from aqueous solution within a batch system. A solution of KNO3 is used as a source
of nitrate ions. Batch adsorption tests were carried out with various parameters, namely initial
NO3- ions concentration from 50 to 200 mg/L at pH of 2 to 9 and adsorbent dose from 5 to 40 g/L.
the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 120 min.
The adsorption equilibrium study showed that the kinetic adsorption of nitrate ions on the
natural clay AN600 is best described by the pseudo second order model. Thus, the adsorption
isotherm is well represented by the Freundlich model. The parameters effect shows that the
adsorption yield increases with the adsorbent dose and decreases with the initial concentration
of nitrate. The optimum pH for adsorption has been showed in the range from 2 to 4. The
adsorption capacity was found to a maximum value at (5, 10 mg/g) for the adsorbent particle
size between 200 μm and 400 μm. Thus, the adsorption of nitrate ions is influenced by the
chemical compositions of the clays, determined by the X-ray fluorescence method. The obtained
results indicated that this natural clay has been found very effective and environmentally
friendly adsorbent which can be used in wastewater treatment without any chemical treatment.

The Sebou River is one of the most polluted rivers in Morocco. And one of the most populated
regions of Morocco (about 5.6 million); it represents the most important agricultural region of
the country and has a relatively developed social and economic infrastructure.
The Estuary of Sebou River located in Harbor of kenitra city, and have been impaired by the
discharge of untreated sewage and industrial effluents. Which leads The contamination of the
water and the sediments by the elements traces metals (ETM) (Cd, Hg, Pb, Al, Ni, Cu…) those
elements traces metals (ETM) remains a severe problem on the health and environment, And as
a consequence the disappearance of certain animal and/or vegetable species and consequently
The dysfunction of the trophic chain.
In a preliminary study was realized in Sebou River showed that the sediments are very rich with
the elements traces metals (ETM) and the organic matter (Toxic sediments) and these pollutions
flowing to Sebou estuary. (Hassimi & all, 2016). For this purpose, we sampled from 4 station in
the estuary of Sebou River, and digested by attacking the different fractions of the sediment
with the Aqua Regia, and analyzed with ICP OES, (Inductively Coupled Plasma/Optical Emission
Spectrometry), within laboratories of (Ingeniería Química y Ambiental, UPCT) in Spain.
According to the first results of the analyses of our samples, the decrease of the concentration
of elements traces metals (ETM) in the direction to the estuary Mean that these elements traces
metals (ETM) do not transport towards the ocean and they precipitate in another place.
So the objective of our study is to quantify and to determine the sources of this
contamination. This Study will allow us to evaluate the levels of availability of trace metals for
living organisms and estimate the toxicity, and to understand the biogeochemical behavior of
trace metals in the estuarine environment.

Water is a vital substance for humans and the environment, contamination of Water is the main
source of illness such as gastroenteritis, viral hepatitis, abdominal pain, typhoid, leptospirosis …
According to the literature, millions of children die each year from diarrheal diseases caused by
contaminated food or drinking water.
Groundwater and surface water are drinking water resources for human populations and they
are dependent on a set of natural and anthropogenic factors. These resources have daily
disturbances, which cause deterioration of their hygienic quality.
The study we propose will use both chemometric techniques (PCA and HCA) to identify the
inherent structure of a water quality dataset, containing physical and chemical parameters from
different resources in the Region of Murcia, Spain. Statistical treatment of data will be carried
out with the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 software.
The main aim of this work is to study the surface water quality of our Region by means of
chemometric tools, and find possible changes in the water quality due to geomorphological
background, water sources and anthropogenic pollution.
As results, PCA and HCA shows that all the surface water is effected by anthropogenic and no
anthropogenic pollution. The results of the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and revealed
three gradients. The first reflects the mineralization of water, the second describes
anthropogenic pollution, while the third describes non anthropogenic pollution, in addition, this
PCA allowed the discrimination of the stations (sampling points) according to their physical and
chemical data.
On the other hand, the result of HCA revealed 2 major clustering groups resulting from the
influences of agricultural and urban activities around the samples locations.

Therefore, it is worthwhile to conclude that PCA and HCA are better tools for better
understanding of the concealed information about parameters variance and datasets discrete
information in water quality assessment studies.
The results of this study will be of great interest for health hygiene services that will lead to
establishing preventive and curative actions to avoid potential serious health risks.
These results must be put into profit by action to preserve this watercourse which is in an area
experiencing many activities, important industrial and agricultural. Thus, we must preserve
Segura River which has very good quality water and which is influenced by human activities.

In France each year about 30 million m3 (El Fadili and Messager 2015) of sediment are dredged.
These dredged sediment volumes are traditionally dumped at sea, a few kilometers from the
coast, in controlled areas. However, due to the harmful induced by dumping at sea, new
management solutions are explored over the world (Zentar et al. 2009).
The civil engineering uses over 400 million tons of material (aggregates, sand, cement) of which
96% are of natural origin (UNPG 2011). The materials reserves are becoming unusable or
inaccessible for various reasons: too expensive operation, risk of impact on the environment,
integrated with urban areas or located in classified or protected sites. In this context, the
dredged sediment, listed as waste according to European classification, could constitute a new
resource in the context of sustainable development.
Dredged sediment generally consists of a mineral phase, a liquid phase (water) and an organic
phase (in various forms). The Organic matter in soils consists of a complex mixtures of plant and
animals remains decomposed to varying extents. For this very complex system, organic matter is
generally divised into two groups: nonhumic and humic substances(Schnitzer and Khan 1972).
The presence of organic matter (OM) in sediment, even in small amounts, can affect its physical,
chemical and mechanical behavior (Casagrande, 1948; Rashid and Brown,1975; Bennett et al.,
1977; Keller, 1982; Booth and Dahl,1986; Smith et al.,1985; Lee et al., 1990; Malkawi et al.,1999;

2012; Moradi, 2013; Zeng et al.,2016; Stanchi et al., 2017). This is why it is imperative to identify
and characterize the impacts of organic matter on the properties of dredged sediments. The
objective of this study is to investigate the influence of humic substances on the physical
properties (liquid limit, plastic limit and methylene blue value) of the dredged sediments.

Calcium oxalate is the most component frequent urinary calculi; it is existing in three different
crystalline forms. The most common is the calcium oxalate monohydrate (whewellite). This
species is oxalo-dependent; it crystallizes in environments of hyperoxaluria with low or normal
calcium.
Drug treatments used until now, are effective but often poorly tolerated. Morocco is one of the
countries that has used the traditional medicine based on natural plants to treat many diseases
including urolithiasis. The mostmedicinal plants used for this purpose are Herniaria hirsuta L.
(HHL), flors of Opuntia Ficus-Indica(OFI), Zea Mays Styles (ZMS) and seeds of Ammi Visnaga L.
(AVL). The objective of this work is to study experimentally the effectiveness of each plant on
the dissolution of whewellite stones. The preparation concern 1L boiled saline solution (9 g/L of
NaCl), 5g of plant extract powder have been introduced. Thereafter, the mixture was left soaked
for 15 minutes and then filtered. A specific installation that resembles the urinary circuit was
conducted in the laboratory. Three whewellite stonesare placed in contact with extract
solutions for eight weeks. Two other witnesses solutions have used to correct the loss mass: The
first is a solution of Potassium Citrate (C Pot) of 3 mmol / L and the second is a solution of NaCl
of 9 g/L. After eight weeks, the loss mass is about 55% with (SZM) ,50 % with (HHL), 47 % with
(AVL) and 45% with (OFI), while the loss of mass in the presence of witnesses solutions is 22 %
for potassium citrate (C Pot) and 21% in the case of saline solutions.

Nowadays, landfill leachates are one of the most critical environmental issues faced by countries
around the world. They result from the percolation of rain water through layers of solid wastes
themselves. They are therefore highly charged with organic and mineral matter, which requires
treatment before discharge to the receiving environment. In recent years, many techniques
have been developed for leachate treatment.
In this study, landfill leachate selected comes from Oujda city’s landfill in Morocco. Landfill
leachate is treated by a coagulation flocculation process, using ferric chloride as coagulant. The
leachate is characterized by high COD and BOD5. The BOD5/COD ratio is equal to 0.2, revealing
that it is an intermediate leachate with a non-biodegradable organic matter. Optimal dosage
obtained was 16g/l of coagulant which removed 89.6 % of turbidity.

Sediments dredging operations are necessary to maintain proper exploitation of the harbors and
waterways. Valorization of sediments in earthworks is an alternative to in-land storage and
disposal in water. In such recovery process, dredged sediments are dried then mixed with
hydraulic binders and by-products in order to improve its mechanical resistance. In this study,
we investigated the possibility of modeling the mechanical resistance of fine sediments as
function of its characteristics. Twenty-five sediments with different treatment (type and
quantity) were used as database in this approach. The mechanical resistance at 28 days was
modeled using a multivariate linear regression analysis. Cement was identified as the best
mechanical strength booster, while organic matter (OM) and index of plasticity (IP) were found
the most subversive factors. Considering the importance of OM and IP when using the model,
finding the most convenient methods to characterize sediment was presented in this study.

The objective of this work is the valorization of aqueous and hydro-alcoholic extracts of stigmata
of zea mays corn silk), which has been used traditionally as diuretic, anti-lithiasic, for curing
cystitis, gout, nephritis, prostatitis, as well as for kidney stones.
For that we have realized a phytochemical screening for extracts studied, total phenol content,
antioxidant activity by three different methods : DPPH, FRAP and the total antioxidant activity.
The antibacterial activity has been studies in this work. The results of phytochemical tests have
allowed us to note the presence of tannins, flavonoids, alkaloids, saponins and glycosides
cardiac in all extracts. The revelation of mucilage was positive in the aqueous extract, however
negative in hydro alcoholic extract. We also note the absence of saponins in all extracts.
The total phenolic content of the hydro alcoholic extract was near 75 mg equivalents of Gallic
Acid /g of extract and the total flavonoid content was 25,95 ± 0,36 mg equivalents of Quercetine
/g of extract.
The results of the antioxidant activity showed that the hydro alcoholic extract have a higher
antioxidant activity than the aqueous extract by using three methods.
Regarding the antibacterial activity, we have worked on 16 strains; the results showed that
these extracts have a weak effect on the strains studied.

PHOTOCATALYTIC DECOLORIZATION OF AZO DYE BY Ag3PO4-APATITE UNDER THE SUNLIGHT

Silver phosphate (Ag3PO4) is a semiconductor that is characterized by low gap band energy (E≈
2.4 eV), thus this material is a potential candidate for replacing titanium dioxide photocatalyst,
which is photoactive only under UV, considering that the fraction of UV light is less than 5% in
the total solar spectrum on the earth, so the photocatalytic activity of this last photocatalyst is
limited to the sun and leaves a large part of the solar energy unusable. However, several
limitations of Ag3PO4 photocatalyst, including mainly the photocorrosion of silver (I) into Ag°
under light irradiation and the use of expensive silver-containing material, restrict its practical
use. In our work, we report a simple strategy to improve the stability of Ag3PO4 by its fixation on
apatite extracted from the waste of phosphate ores. The photocatalytic activity of the Ag3PO4-
apatite photocatalysts was evaluated by the degradation under the sunlight of methylene blue
as a model organic pollutant. The Ag3PO4-apatite prepared by simple methods, while using
AgNO3 as precursor and the prepared apatite as a support of Ag3PO4. Moreover, the as-
synthesized Ag3PO4-apatite exhibited a high photocatalytic activity for the degradation of
methylene blue under the sunlight.

It is well known that pollution of water represents one of the most important environment
problem. Dyes have a wide range of industrial uses. They are used for the printing and dyeing of
textile fibers, papers, leathers, furs, wood, and plastics. Wastewaters from these industries
represent the significant environmental problems around the globe. Dyes removal from
aqueous solution has been widely investigated by the scientists making use of different kinds of
adsorbents such as agricultural byproducts, activated carbons, graphene oxide, minerals,
polymers, metal oxides, and so forth.
The current study relates to the removal of a dye crystal violet (CV) from aqueous solutions
through batch adsorption experiment onto a local clay from Morocco. The clay was
characterized by X-ray diffraction, IR spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron
microscope, Brunauer–Emmett–Teller analysis and Fraunhofer diffraction method. The
influence of independent variables on the removal efficiency was determined and optimized by
response surface methodology using the Box–Behnken surface statistical design. The model
predicted maximum adsorption of 81.62% under the optimum conditions of operational
parameters (125 mg/L initial dye concentration, 2.5 g/L adsorbent dose and time of 43 min).
Practically, the removal ranges in 27.4–95.3%.

Azoic dyes are the most important class of synthetic dyes. Extensively present in textile effluents,
they are considered to be very hazardous for humans and environment. The removal of methyl
orange from aqueous solution by adsorption onto a Moroccan bentonite and two commercial
kaolinite and montmorillonite was realized in batch mode. Several influencing parameters were
examined, including contact time, pH, solid/liquid ratio, methyl orange initial concentration,
stirring speed, and organic matter dose. Results show that equilibrium was reached at 30 min
for bentonite, and 60 min for both kaolinite and montmorillonite. Adsorption process is
enhanced at acidic pH values (pH<4), and proportional to stirring speed and organic matter dose.
Optimal solid/liquid ratio was found to be 1 g/L for bentonite, and 1,5 g/L for commercial clays.
Adsorption conforms to Lagergren kinetic model and Freundlich isotherm. According to n and RL
values, adsorption of methyl orange onto studied clays is favorable.

anthropiques.

Groundwater and surface water are drinking water
resources for human populations and they are dependent on a set of natural and anthropogenic
factors. These resources have daily disturbances, which cause deterioration of their hygienic
quality. The study we propose will use both chemometric techniques (PCA and HCA) to identify
the inherent structure of a water quality dataset, containing physical and chemical parameters
from different resources in the Region of Murcia, Spain. Statistical treatment of data will be
carried out with the SPSS (Statistical Package for Social Sciences) 22.0 software. The main aim of
this work is to study the surface water quality of our Region by means of chemometric tools,
and find possible changes in the water quality due to geomorphological background, water
sources and anthropogenic pollution. As results, PCA and HCA shows that all the surface water is
effected by anthropogenic and no anthropogenic pollution. The results of the Principal
Component Analysis (PCA) and revealed three gradients. The first reflects the mineralization of
water, the second describes anthropogenic pollution, while the third describes non
anthropogenic pollution, in addition, this PCA allowed the discrimination of the stations
(sampling points) according to their physical and chemical data.

Emission of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) is now strictly regulated due to harmful on
public health and atmospheric environment. Among many technologies available for VOCs
control, the catalytic oxidation of these pollutants to carbon dioxide and water has been
recognized as one of the most promising technologies. In the aim to obtain a reaction
economically competitive, it is necessary to explore higher active catalysts performing at low
temperatures. Indeed, the supported noble metals have been generally regarded as the most
desirable catalysts, in terms of their catalytic activity for catalytic oxidation. However, transition
metal based oxides can replace traditional noble-metal-based catalysts, because of their low
cost and stability. An interesting way to obtain mixed oxides catalysts is through the use of
hydrotalcites or layered double hydroxides as precursors. Indeed, after calcination treatment
mixed oxides are formed and possess unique properties like a high surface area, good thermal
stability, good mixed oxides homogeneity and basic properties. The partial or the total
substitution of Mg2+ and Al3+ is possible by divalent cation or trivalent cation in the hydrotalcite
structure. Thus, a ternary mixed oxide Co-Al-Ce has been developed in the laboratory by
synthesis method using hydrotalcite way. This material was studied as a catalyst for the total
oxidation of VOCs (toluene and/or methyl ethyl ketone) alone or in mixtures. It showed very
interesting performances in comparison with catalysts based on noble metals.

Bisphenol-A [BPA] is widely used in the industry, as a monomer for the production of
polycarbonate and epoxy resins, as an antioxidant in glues, plastics, and ink, and as a varnish on
the packaging of food products and pharmaceuticals [1]. Despite its industrial use, many reports
showed its negative repercussions on human health. It was classified as an endocrine-disrupting
chemical (EDC) with estrogenic properties [2]. In the present work, BPA removal is studied in the
catalytic wet air oxidation (CWAO) which is considered as one of the most promising Advanced
Oxidation Processes (AOP). An aqueous solution of (BPA) (10 mg/L) was degraded in the
presence of zirconia based metal catalysts. Zirconia was synthesized by sol-gel method, and then
different transition metals (Ru/ Pt/ Pd/ Ni) were loaded on the support by dry impregnation
method. The prepared samples were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), N2-physisorption
at -196 °C (BET), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis
(ATG/ATD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Results of the catalytic tests showed a
significant enhancement of the catalytic activity of zirconia doped with Ruthenium.

The importance of water as a vital resource and a development factor is universally recognized.
The protection of this resource, particularly surface water requires the assessmentof
parameters that affect theflow and the quality of surface waters. The physical and
morphological parameters make it possible to study the behavior of the basin surface water
flow and allow a convincing evaluation of the obtained results and their accuracy. In this study,
only parameters that can be expressed with numbers are considered in order to be able to
quantify the results, therefore the hypsometric curves and the graphs of the long profiles have
been excluded from the list of selected parameters. The use of high-performance tools such as
GIS and remote sensing is necessary and very useful for this study. These tools respond to the
precise problem of definition of the hydrographic network and watersheds using a ground
numerical model. These techniques have enabled to give numerical information characterizing
the relief and morphometry of the basin. They are used in a wide variety of field applications,
and they are used in particular for the mapping of risks such as watercourses contamination and
flood risques. Water pollution is caused by a variety of sources, which are generally grouped
into two categories: point sources and diffuse sources. At this stage of the study, an evaluation
of the physical parameters such as the surface, the compactness or form index, the slope and
the intermediate parameters used to calculate them is carried out. For the morphological
parameters, the confluence ratio, the length ratio and the drainage density were selected along
with the intermediate parameters used to calculate them. Finally, a detailed map was drawn
allowing the visualization of the results and thus facilitating their interpretation.

Catalysts based on zirconia doped by phosphate groups have been synthesized by sol-gel route
and using two different drying methods of solvent in the preparation step. Aerogel catalyst
which is obtained by solvent evacuation at its supercritical conditions develops a high specific
area and a high mesopore size than xerogel one which is obtained by drying solvent in oven at
110°C. The XRD patterns show that in aerogel cubic and tetragonal ZrO2 phases are more
crystallized at the expense of tetragonal ZrP phase. FTIR study of the two kinds of catalysts
indicates that the mode of solvent evacuation plays an important role in the interaction of
phosphate groups with zirconia. Surface acidity studied by potentiometric n-butylamine titration
shows that despite the texture and structure developed of the aerogel, acidity of its surface is
lower than that of xerogel. The correlation between the overall characteristics of the aerogel and
xerogel catalysts and their catalytic properties shows that developed tetragonal t-ZrP phase with
a high surface acidity and a non-wide pores, seems to generate and more stabilize active sites in
the in the esterification reaction of acetic acid with ethanol.

Water pollution by toxic heavy metals from landfills and industrial waste is a universal
environmental concern. In actuality, the presence of heavy metals in the water is responsible for
many health problems for all kinds of lives. This study deals with adsorption kinetic, equilibrium
and thermodynamic of Cu (II) ions from aqueous solution onto two natural local materials. The
adsorbents were crushed, screened and characterized using different chemical and physical
techniques like X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared, Scanning
Electron Microscopy (SEM). The effects of Cu (II) ion concentration, temperature, pH of
adsorption have been investigated and mass of adsorbents. The maximum yield of adsorption
was found in 90% and 30% of material I and material II respectively, at the conditions of initial
concentration 500 mg. L-1, adsorbent mass 3 g.L-1, pH 6 and 298 K. They were explained by
pseudo 2nd order in kinetic models. The experimental data of adsorption in equilibrium condition
are tested by the isotherm equations like Freundlich, Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevich at
different concentrations. Calculated thermodynamic quantities such as free energy (∆G), the
enthalpy (∆H) and the entropy of adsorption (∆S) indicate that the adsorption reaction was
spontaneous, endothermic and controlled by physical mechanisms.

The use of inhibitors is one of the most practical methods to protect steel against corrosion in
acidic solutions [1]. The majority of inhibitors used in the industry are organic compounds
mainly consisting of nitrogen, oxygen and sulfur, as well as inhibitors that contain double or
triple bonds facilitate the adsorption of these compounds on the metal surfaces [2]. Many
scientists have reported that the mechanism of inhibition is mostly explained by certain
physicochemical and electronic properties of the organic inhibitor that relate to steric effects, its
functional groups, the orbital nature of donating electrons, and the electron density of the
donor atoms and so on . The uses of organic inhibitors such as 5-Chloroisatin derivative are also
studied for their usefulness in various industries to control the corrosion of metals [3, 4]. The
aim of this study is to synthesis of new 5-Chloroisatin derivatives as inhibitors of the corrosion of
mild steel in 1M HCl and in 1M H3PO4.

Natural phosphates are a source of vital and non-renewable; it is a non-replaceable and non-
recyclable product for use in agriculture. Most natural phosphates contain undesirable elements
(cadmium, lead, magnesium, strontium, arsenic) at varying levels. If these items are not
removed, they can be in fertilizers, phosphatic and be absorbed by plants and therefore enter
the human food chain. This is the case of cadmium, particularly toxic the current trend is to
strongly lower levels permitted limits. The objective of this work is to develop a simple and less
expensive method to eliminate cadmium of natural phosphate. For this purpose we are looking
for chemical reagents which are specifically and efficiently extract cadmium of phosphates. The
study of influence of some factors on leaching showed that the cadmium extraction efficiency
increases with increase in the concentration of the extracting agent, temperature and decreases
with the decrease of the ratio L/P.

The essential oils currently are used for the protection of stored foodstuffs. However, their
volatility poses a major problem in their use and the duration of their activities is very short.
Thus, to remedy this problem and to prolong their effectiveness, several researchers have been
interested in testing formulations based on essential oils and clay as a support for the storage of
grains, they can also be used as additives to feed poultry and ruminants and thus offer an
alternative to conventional chemical agents which have an adverse effects on the environment.
Initially, the hydrotalcite MgAlCO3 (HT3) with molar ratio Mg/Al=3 was synthesized via
coprecipitation method at a constant pH of 10, the solid obtained is calcined at 500 °C and
denoted HT3-C. The characterization of the solids was carried by: X-ray diffraction (XRD),
infrared spectroscopy (IRTF), nitrogen adsorption-desorption methods (BET) and thermal
analysis (TGA/DTA).
In a second step, we followed the adsorption kinetic and isotherm of the thymol on hydrotalcite
HT3 and its calcined homologue HT3-C. These tests were followed by analysis of the supernatant
by UV-Visible spectroscopy.
The results show that the calcined hydrotalcite (HT3-C) has a capacity of adsorption of thymol (8
mg/g) much more than HT3 (4 mg/g) and the experimental points are described by the isotherm
model of the Freundlich of both materials.

Dredged sediment generally consists of a mineral phase, an organic phase (in various forms) and
a liquid phase (water). The presence of organic matter (OM) in sediment, even in low amounts,
can affect the physical, chemical and mechanical behaviour (Casagrande, 1948; Rashid and
Brown,1975; Bennett et al., 1977; Keller, 1982; Booth and Dahl,1986; Smith et al.,1985; Lee et

In this paper, the effect of organic matter on the Atterberg limits of dredged marine sediment is
studied. Four samples of dredged marine sediments with different amount of organic matter
ranging from 5% to 15% are studied. The effect deduced in this study could constitute a first

The new challenges of the environment and sustainable development are currently the main
issues in the building materials industry. The increasingly demand of natural resources on the
one hand, as well as the resulting imapcts on the environment of the manufacturing processes
of building materials such as cement on the other hand, are now pushing to search for new
green materials. The washing fines are counted by thousands of tons each year in France. Their
physical and chemical properties give them good recycling potential as an environmentally-
friendly building material.
The fineness of particles can play an important role in filling the inter-granular voids of coarser
particles, such as sand and gravel grains of granular mixtures of concretes. In this work, the
effect of the addition of fine limestone in the sand fraction on the compactness of the latter will
be studied. Based on the grain size distribution and the fineness of the fine limestones, the
compactness of the sand will be measured by the shaking table according to the LPC method No.
61 (LEDEE et al., 2004). The compressible packing model (CPM) will then be used to simulate the
packing of binary and ternary granular mixtures for the manufacture of ecological concretes
based on fine limestone. In our study, we are interested in the variation of the compactness of
limestone fines/sand /gravel mixture as a function of the volume substitution rate of sand by
limestone fines (up to 10%). In this case, we are looking for the best compacities that can be
achieved according to the substitution rate.
