Zak Pleet, classical guitar

The first Canadian graduate of the Máster en Interpretación de Guitarra Clásica from the Univeridad d'Alicante in Spain, Zak Pleet has performed in Canada and abroad, in presentations that have been hailed as “poetic”, “full of expression” and “masterful." He has taken part in masterclasses with Grammy Award winning and nominated artists David Russell, Manuel Barrueco, Hopkinson Smith and Paul O'Dette, and with inter-nationally renowned artists including Ignacio Rodes, Shinichi Fuduka, Fabio Zanon, Roberto Aussel, Anienllo De-siderio and many others. Zak enjoys performing beyond the traditional classical performance ven-ues, and he frequently donates his time to charitable causes such as the MS Walk of Ottawa and the Hospice at Maycourt. A tireless advocate for new and rarely heard works, Zak has debuted compositions by local Ottawa composers Christine Donkin and Alan Marsden among others. During his time in Alicante, Zak gave

the European debut of a set of pieces by Alan Marsden, including Hommage, of which Zak had previously given the world premiere in April 2012. In addition to his Masters degree from the Univeridad d'Alicante, Zak holds a Masters of Music from the University of Ottawa and a Bachelors of Music from Carleton University. During his studies in Ottawa his primary teacher was Stephen Rollins. He spent additional time studying with the Canadian Guitar Quartet and Alan Marsden. Zak plays two beautifully hand crafted guitars by Quebec luither Patrick Mailloux; nicknamed "Angelique" and "Olivia".
