experience. Forgive my use offormal terminology but I reallywant to emphasize by usingthese terms that the works ondisplay have not been arbitrarily
put together as a mis-matchedsurvey of Bahamian art, but thatthere has been a focused discus-sion and planning process in-
volved in order to ensure that theaudience will be exposed to therich quality of the art and theamazingly diverse talent of theartists.
Transforming Spaces serves as arecurring yearly reminder of thenecessity to see visual art withinthe context of place and eachspace will offer a distinctive per-spective on Bahamian art. Every
member of the audience will betaken on a visual art experiencethat at its heart has a narrativewhich raises questions about thenature of art both within the con-text of the gallery space as wellas within the context of the roleand nature of contemporary art inthe wider Bahamas.
We are now in the 2nd decade ofthe 21st century and are witness-
ing the legacy of the economiccrash as well as recent ecologicaldisasters in our neighborhoodcountry of Haiti. It is in times likethese that we need to look to-wards the visual arts for inspira-tion, encouragement and the abil-ity to progress forward and it isfor this that I welcome you to joinus on our Transforming Spaces
journey.

Acting Director of the NationalArt Gallery of The Bahamas,David Bailey, MBE who hadthis to say about the Tour:
It is important tonote that the
T r a n s f o r m i n g
Spaces event is
created by a cu-
ratorial collective
made up of many of the self-run
visual art spaces, who come to-
gether to ensure that over a
weekend Bahamians and visitors
are given an intense visual art
