i t's getting close to show time, my favorite part of the year, when I have the opportunity to interact with our loyal read-

ers, advertisers, end users, national and international industry members. I'm talking about SUPs/FIN, the biggest event for the North American electroplating industry, which will be held Aug. 13-16 at the Cleveland Convention Center.

By now I'm sure you've seen all the SUR/FIN promotional ads that provide you with compelling reasons to attend the show. The marketing campaign theme, "A new attitude makes all the difference," is apropos because this is not your father's or grandfather's SUR/FIN. The NASF has worked tirelessly to transform the show into an event that appeals to the masses, from platers and suppliers to OEMs and academia.

Indeed, a quick glance at the conference program reveals that the play list has changed: New automotive and Business Management Symposiums; the debut of the Finishers' Pavilion, featuring leading plating shops who have an exclu- sive opportunity to showcase their products/services to OEMs in attendance; more exhibitors, which translates into more networking and learning opportunities for you. Suppliers stand to reap the benefits as well. Where else will they have the opportunity to mingle with new and existing customers over the course of three days?

The incentives don't end there. As I write this column, I noticed the Dow is hovering close to 14,000, and most eco- nomic indicators are pointing in the right direction for our industry. If there was ever a time to justify going to SUR/FIN, this is it. If you're returning to the show, perhaps this time around you can catch one of the many seminars you've always felt too busy to attend, or spend more time seeking out new suppliers. Or maybe you'll set aside some time to attend association meetings, participate in func- tions after show hours, and take an interest in NASF activ- ities designed to benefit the membership.

In the midst of all the activities and excitement, please take a moment to thank NASF staff members and association leaders who spent countless hours working to organize the crown jewel of our industry. By attending SUR/FIN, you are supporting our industrs?s leading trade show and sending a message to suppliers that reinforce the importance of partic- ipating in this event. And I guarantee that you will leave the show with at least one solid idea you can bring back that will enable your organization to work smarter. ~ ~ i ~

I look forward to seeing you in Cleveland!
