The Durban Community Chest honoured its Top Donors at an Awards breakfast held at Riverside Hotel on Wed, 10 June 2015. This year the top Corporate donor was Game/Massdiscounters and the Concord Trust was once again the top Charitable Trust.

For the 2014/2015 financial year under review, we supported 87 member organisations, with grants to the value of R9 million; donor ad-vised gifts of R784 000 and more than R950 000 donations in kind, were given to another 21 organisations including schools. This would not have been possible without the generous support of our loyal Corporate and Trust do-nors.

For the current year 2015/2016, we have com-mitted ourselves to raising R9.5 million. Our 83 member organisations will benefit from this allocation and R200 000 has been set aside in an emergency fund for unforeseen relief events. In order to achieve this ambitious tar-get, we are reviewing our current work meth-ods and procedures to bring about greater efficiency.

Chairman of the Community Chest, Inbin Moodley said, “Community Chest firmly be-lieves that we all have the responsibility and potential to do what we can, where we can and how we can. One thing is certain, if we do nothing, how can we expect poverty to disappear? Embracing and championing the concept of Ubuntu is the cornerstone of our ideals … “I am what I am because of who we all are”.

He expressed his heartfelt appreciation to all our donors for sharing our vision and demon-strating their commitment to partnering with Community Chest and making an investment in the future of the under-privileged in Kwa Zulu Natal’s needy communities.
