THE IMPORTANCE OF STRENGTH TRAIN-THE IMPORTANCE OF STRENGTH TRAIN-THE IMPORTANCE OF STRENGTH TRAIN-
INGINGING
Want to reduce body fat, increase lean mus-cle mass and burn calories more effi-ciently? Strength training to the rescue! De-spite its reputation as a "guy" or "jock" thing, strength training is a key component of overall health and fitness for everyone. We have a member who has achieved great results by attending our strength training classes 2-3 times per week! Her name is Sharon O’Hara. She is 58 years old and here is what she had to say about what this class has done for her overall health: “I’m Sharon O’Hara and I would like to
share with you the rewards for patience and
dedication while trying to improve your life
with exercise and diet.
I have a lower back disk issue that is very
painful and surgery does not have favor-
able odds. My other option was proper
core strength training and water aerobics,
which I found at FiftyForward. Yoga and
Zumba are also on my weekly calendar.
I have lost 18 pounds, 6 1/4 inches and
some of my pain. I feel so much better and
realized that you are never too old to enjoy
being in shape. I’m not 100% there yet, but
I want to feel better. If you have the time to
complain about pain, then you have the

I know many of you are wondering what is go-ing on with the Labor Day Bar-B-Que. Well, we are still on but we are changing things up a little bit. Instead of 4 days it will be 2 days. (August 30 and 31) After talking with a lot of folks we decided it was just too hard on people to work or volun-teer the entire 4 days. Friday we will kick off at 10:00 a.m. - serve a great lunch and then later that day we will be serving barbeque at the farmers market. We'll have lots of vendors including the ones we have had in the past and the farmers mar-ket vendors. Then on Saturday, we will have a day long fes-tival featuring barbeque and pickles, games for children including pickle toss, pickle hole (like corn hole only throwing pickles), the wonderful silent auction that you all have grown to love, entertainment, etc. Right now the only thing I am unsure of is the bargain basement. Since it is a hard hat area we might not have that ready in time. If not, we'll plan a huge sale sometime in the fall. We have lots of great stuff in there. We are getting a late start on our adopt a pig program because of the matching campaign. It just made a whole lot more sense to get dona-tions matched before year end. It's time now to adopt a pig or adopt a pickle. Yes, that's right you can adopt a pickle too!!!! We're going to add a pickle component to the festivities this year, so in honor of me being here 15 years, in addition to adopting a pig for $25.00, you can adopt a pickle for $15.00. Heck, since July 28 is my birthday - adopt a pig and pickle - even better. If we raise $1,000.00 in pickle sponsorship, I'll wear the pickle cos-tume one day here. We still needs lots of folks to help, so if you would like to volunteer - there is a sign up sheet in the front office. We're looking for some special people.
