Subject: Special Repairs and Rehabilitation to Don Bridge at km 18.80 of NH 218 on Bijapur-Hubli Section in the State of Karnataka (Job No.001-Karnataka-2012-13)

Please refer to letter No.CNH/TA-3/AE-5/NH218/Don/18.80/2013-
14/3922 dt. 01.02.2014 from Chief Engineer (NH), PWD, Karnataka State
forwarding therewith a revised cost estimate amounting to Rs. 147.46 lakhs
for the work of Special Repairs and Rehabilitation to Don Bridge at km 18.80
of NH 218 on Bijapur-Hubli Section in the State of Karnataka (Job No.001-
Karnataka-2012-13). The RCE for the work has been examined and following
observations are made:
(1.1) The original work was sanctioned by the Ministry for Rs.104.20 lakhs
on 14.02.2013. The work was awarded to M/s. Sanfield India Ltd.,
Bhopal on 08.08.2013 for a tender cost of Rs.95.786 lakhs, 4.90%
above the amount put to tender.
(1.2) During the execution, State PWD have felt that there is requirement for
some additional items like cement grouting, lifting of superstructure for
the repair of damaged components of bearing, besides additions in
some of the sanctioned work items. All these factors have
necessitated for this revised work estimate.
(1.3) There are some corrections in the quantity of different work items as
detailed below:

(1.5) State PWD has stated that wearing coat on the bridge portion was
already provided under the work of IRQP from km 18.00 to 40.00 under
Job No. 218.KNT 2011-643 (completed on 15.05.2012), in which,
Bituminous Concrete wearing coat was provided. Further, the
replacement of damaged concrete railing, etc. are deleted by the PWD
as existing railing is in good condition.
(1.6) Besides above, there is no change in the quantity of any work item
sanctioned by the Ministry.
In view of the above, the RCE for the work has been modified to
Rs.116.38 lakhs inclusive of 1% work charge establishment, Rs.1.00 lakh
against contingency charges (to met out the advertisement needs) and 9%
Agency Charges.
