• Beall’s List is an overview of predatory publishers: the list is intended as a warning that these publishers are frauds

• No comparison with regular subscription journals: would they have accepted the article?

How do you increase your impact as an author?

• Write good articles!

• Publish in reputable journals• OA journal:

• Check that the publisher is not on Beall’s List• If the offer seems too good to be true…

• Subscription journal:• Check the journal on Sherpa/RoMeo: is self-archiving

allowed?• Add your preprint/postprint to the TU Delft Repository

• Both OA and subscription journals:• Are articles from the journal indexed in a good database?• Who are the editors? Are their affiliations correct? Do they

(or their colleagues) publish in the journal?

How do you increase your impact as an author?

• Make the most of your publications:• Create profiles and online publication lists

• ResearcherID (Thomson Reuters)• Scopus Author ID (Elsevier)• Google Scholar Citations• ORCID

Does Open Access publishing make a difference?

• Open Access articles are read more than articles published in subscription journals.

• Open Access articles are probably cited more than articles published in subscription journals.

• There is more to OA publishing than OA journals! Add your preprints/postprints to the TU Delft Repository to increase their impact.

• Use social media and publication lists to improve your visibility. A link to an OA article can be accessed by all!
