2004 Nanotechnology V 1505 Preparation and Characterization of Monodisperse PbSe Semiconductor Nano- crystals in a Noncoordinating Solvent. — Spherical PbSe semiconductor nanocrys- tals with near-infrared absorption of 1100—2520 nm (corresponding to diameters of 3—13 nm) are synthesized from PbO and Se=P(-(CH2)7-Me)3 in 1-octadecene (180150 °C). The as-prepared PbSe semiconductor nanocrystals have very narrow size distribution without any postsynthetic size selection. High-resolution transmission electron microscopy, electron diffraction, and X-ray diffraction show that the nanocrys- talline particles are single domains of rock-salt type PbSe.
