News of Pro Late Model RacingTRANSCRIPT
Mix all that in with what has been
some of the best local racing in years, and, we’re off to a great start.
Tonight, the Allen Turner Pro Late
Models will again dazzle us with a pair of features. Young Garrett Jones and Fairhope’s Bryce Dulabhan, along with Pensacola’s Jeremy Pate, are raging a battle for the points lead with a mere 6 points between them. The new format for the series has met great success.
The Mods, Sports-man, and Bomb-
ers are also set to do battle tonight. Speak-ing of Sportsman, let us remind you, new division sponsor Beef O’ Brady’s, on Nine Mile Rd. will stay open late for your visit after tonight’s races. We also thank Bomber Division sponsor Cheryl Nelson of Butler’s U Pull-It,
W ith the season quickly coming to
an end look for things to start picking up in the racing world at Five Flags Speedway. After tonight only three racing events remain on our regular schedule before we start getting really serious about the 46th Annual Snowball Derby.
Tonight will be the last of our popu-
lar 50 lap Allen Turner Hyundai Pro Late Model races, along with the Pro Trucks, Sportsman and Bombers. See Chuck Corder’s story inside on page 3 about the two teen drivers you may expect to see up front tonight.
The next time you see the Pro late Model’s
it will be on Septem-ber 28th. That will be our “WHATABURGER NIGHT OF CHAMPIONS” and will consist of a 100 lapper for the Pro Late Models and crown a champion for 2013. It will also decide this year’s champions in the Modified, Sportsmen, Pro Truck and Bomber divisions.
Tonight, look for a few new comers’
to show up and stay for the remainder of the season as every-one wants to get a few laps on this famous track in preparation for the most famous short track race in the nation come Decem-ber. Reserved seats are new being sold for the Snowball.
The next event here is something new
for us. Vintage Cars...and to introduce these cars, admission is $5.00
On September 20th we will showcase
the Buddy’s Home Furnishing’s Super Late Models for the final time until the Snow-ball in December. Also on the schedule for this night will be Super Stocks, Sportsman and Bombers.
On the conclusion of the races on this
night we can crown a champion in both the Super Lates and Super Stocks. See the next page of this newsletter for remaining races and dates.
Jones Duels Dulabhan What all this
means is really just short and simple. It’s “Crunch Time” in all the divisions. It’s time to get serious and just go for broke. I promise you great fans you don’t want to miss any of it.
Again, only three nights of racing
remain on our slate and you should witness some of the best hard nose racing of the 2013 season.
In closing, let me say that my lovely wife
Fay and I will not be present tonight as we will be attending a wedding rehearsal for our beautiful daugh-ter Stefanie. She will be marrying Joseph Forte on Saturday night, August 24th.
PS, save your ticket for free
admissison to the Home Show at the Bay Center this weekend downtown. I’ll be busy.

Teenagers don’t live life with a governor. Every chore they begrudgingly perform happens at a lightning-quick pace, in between commercials. From drive-thrus to 140-character tweets, their worlds move at breakneck speeds.
Thirteen-year-old Garrett Jones and 17-year-old Bryce Dulabhan wouldn’t change a thing. The dynamic duo has dominated the revamped Allen Turner Pro Late Model Series through three sets of the 20-lap/30-lap double features this year at Five Flags Speedway.
“When we started the year, we didn’t have any plans to go for a track championship,” said Jones, who recently start-ed attending a private school in North Carolina. “We were just going to run a couple of races in Pensacola.
“Me and Bryce, we’ve talked. He’s a cool kid. I hope I can beat him fair and square. Hopefully, start in front of him and finish in front of him. That would be the ideal thing.”
Jones starts in front of Dulabhan in the season standings tonight...just barely. Jones is just 5 points ahead of Dulabhan for what would be a career-defining track championship for either young man.
With one more race left, the Allen Turner PLM Tune Up 100, neither driver can afford mistakes or inopportune luck.
“The (Gulf) Coast points and the Five Flag points are defi-nitely on our mind,” said Dulabhan, a senior at Fairhope (Ala.) High School. “We definitely have to be a little conservative. We can’t go all out like we want to or take any risks.”
Both Dulabhan and Jones have enjoyed meteoric rises into late models after years of unpar-alleled success at infant levels of racing. Read more on our web site, www.5Flagsspeedway.com
