Welcome

2

I write these notes on a Monday in November, following a week or so of shows that has included comedian Milton Jones, an Adele tribute, the Tiger Who Came To Tea, the Band of the Royal Logistic Corps, the Russian State Ballet and Elvis - The King Is Back. The range and quality of shows we host at the venue these days is quite staggering.

Our aim is to ensure that all of our professional shows, without exception, are absolutely top-draw. This means that customers can ‘take a punt’ on something new in the knowledge that, because it’s ‘a Princes Hall show’, it will be of excellent quality. This quality control of our shows is an essential ingredient in audience development. Alongside other aspects of the customer service experience that we work so hard on - including the quality of our staff, of which I am particularly proud – it is one of the key reasons for the venue’s success over recent years.

The range and quality of the shows we have on offer this Spring is consistently high, and we hope you will find something in these pages that appeals to you. Comedy features prominently on the agenda as always, and we’re delighted to be welcoming Ed Byrne, Tim Vine, Reginald D Hunter, Jethro, Paul Chowdhry, Joe Lycett, Danny Baker, Daliso Chaponda, Richard Herring and David Baddiel to the venue. There’s some terrific children’s shows too including Peppa Pig, Sing-a-long-a Beauty and the Beast, the Little Mix Experience and Teletubbies, as well as a couple of great dance productions with the stars of Strictly, and plenty more besides.

Our reputation for top quality, great value pantomime continues to grow. As always, the challenge is to ‘beat last year’s offering the following year’, and plans are already in place for our production of ‘Beauty and the Beast’. Tickets are now on sale and, if you are keen to reserve the best seats for a particular performance, it’s always best to book as early as possible.

In addition to our professional productions, we host many other events at the venue, (over 1,000 in total last year!). This brochure lists just the major ones, but in addition to children’s workshops, youth theatre sessions, tea dances, discos and cinema, we host a wide range of local clubs and societies. Check out princeshall.com for more details, and remember that all our facilities are available for hire.

Thank you as always for supporting our theatre. If you would like to talk to me about any aspect of the service we provide - and in particular if we ever fall short of the service levels outlined above - then I would be pleased to hear from you on my direct line, 01252 398570.

Enjoy the season!

During the 15 years in which he has lived in the UK, Reginald’s searingly honest material has garnered him a popular fanbase that spans the generations. His appearances on television have included 8 Out Of 10 Cats Does Countdown, Have I Got News for You and the hugely popular three-part BBC2 series Reginald D Hunter’s Songs Of The South which documented Reginald’s epic road trip from North Carolina to New Orleans through 150 years of American popular song.

★★★★★“A raft of cracking anecdotes”, Mail on Sunday

“Following the extraordinary success of the Cradle To Grave tour I was asked to reconsider my initial statement that I would never undertake such a venture again. The applause of the public can be a seductive narcotic and weaker souls than I would be tempted to repeat the thrills harvested during that ‘uproarious whirligig of joy’ simply to bolster their already outsize egos. After much reflection I have decided that I cannot allow such rampant narcissism to cloud my judgment. I said ‘one farewell’ tour’ and I meant ‘one farewell tour’. There will be no more.”
