September 11th, 2022 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time Since God created human beings, we have struggled to keep our focus on God. We wres-tle with the question of “who is God” and foolishly believe some of God’s job description can be better completed by us. We wander in different directions, lose our way, think that happiness can be found elsewhere and even construct golden calves to worship. Are we simply too independent or just blatantly stubborn? It’s a good question to ask. Even with all of our silliness and distractions, God compassionately and patiently waits. He lets us assert our wills and knows that perhaps one day we will actually wake up and realize how lost we are. “Since happiness is nothing other than the enjoyment of the highest good and since the highest good is above, no one can be made happy unless he rises above himself, not by an ascent of the body but of the heart. But we cannot rise above ourselves unless a higher power lifts us up … Divine aid is available to those who seek it from their hearts, humbly and devoutly; and this means to sigh for it in this valley of tears, through fervent prayer (St. Bonaveture).” One of the biggest human struggles is discerning what, exactly, is the highest good. We are ordered to achieve it but if we pursue it with clouded vision, we will never truly find it. One of the greatest obstacles to God’s power and love is a stubborn, closed heart of stone. When we are fiercely determined to set our sights elsewhere for happiness or simply ride the popular currents of the day, we will never satisfy the deep ache and longing within. We know that ache well. It is precisely why we scurry all over the place, attempting to find the next best thing to take away its pain. Nothing in the created world ever can or will. We continue our journey. One day, people may wake up and realize that they are grazing in the wrong pasture and putting themselves in harm’s way. When this awakening occurs, it will be a most joyous day as we will see God’s wide-open arms waiting to re-ceive us. “Lead me, Lord, in your path, and I will enter in your truth. Let my heart rejoice that it may fear your name (St. Bonaventure).”

Catholic Daughters of the Americas Catholic Daughters will hold their first meeting for 2022-2023 on Monday September 19 at 7 pm in the Parish Center, Lower Level. If you are interested in seeing what we do, or have an interest in joining, this is a great opportunity to get to know us! Any questions, please contact Annie Schaefer at 503-798-5015 or [email protected] Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas JCDA girls will gather together once each month for spiritual and personal growth, and service. Meetings will be led by Amanda Helling, Jenny Aker, Ruth Rava, and/or Sarah Beyer. Parent volunteers are needed to help. Each meeting will have a theme, based on the monthly Catholic Devotions of the Year, and include prayer, JCDA pledge, scripture, crafts/project, and discussion. Girls ages 6 years old, to 18 years old (1st - 12th grade) are welcome to join. We begin meetings together in prayer, and divide into appropriate age groups. Opportunities for service and other fun activities will be offered throughout the year, in addition to the monthly meetings. Please email [email protected] to volunteer or join. Meetings will begin in October. Tuesday, September 20 is the next Prayer Shawl Meeting, 2 pm, in the parish office conference room. All crocheters and knitters are welcome. 11 de septiembre de 2022 24º Domingo del Tiempo Ordinario En cada uno de los domingos pasados, la Palabra de Dios nos invitaba a ser mejores seguidores de Jesús. La liturgia de hoy no se queda atrás, hay que seguir con mucho entusiasmo y fidelidad su enseñanza. Atrévete, nos dirá el Señor, leván-tate y ponte en camino hacia el Padre. El Papa Francisco en sus excelentes cateque-sis nos exhorta a lo siguiente: “Dios espera siempre que reanudemos el viaje, nos espera con paciencia, nos ve cuando todavía estamos lejos, sale a nuestro encuentro, nos abraza, nos besa, nos perdona. ¡Así es Dios! ¡Así es nuestro Padre! Y su perdón borra el pasado y nos regenera en el amor”. ¿Has experimentado el perdón de Dios? Me imagino que sí. Porque si has per-donado a alguien que te ha ofendido, de seguro que has gozado del perdón de Dios en tu vida. El Evangelio, en este domingo, es rico en alegría y perdón. Las cien ove-jas y la búsqueda de una sola que estaba perdida: “Alégrense conmigo, porque he encontrado la oveja que se me había perdido” (Lucas 15,6). La mujer que pierde una moneda de las diez que tiene, y su alegría de encontrarla: “Alégrense conmigo, porque hallé la moneda que se me había perdido” (Lucas 15,9). Estas dos parábolas indican la iniciativa de Dios, quien busca, encuentra y se alegra. En la tercera pará-bola, la del hijo pródigo, la iniciativa de Dios se basa en la libertad y el respeto por el ser humano.

La Vida Parroquial
“El santo Bautismo es el fundamento de toda la vida cristiana, el pórtico de la vida en el espíritu ("vitae spiritualis ianua") y la puerta que abre el acceso a los otros sacramentos. Por el Bautismo somos liberados del pecado y regenerados como hijos de Dios, llegamos a ser miembros de Cristo y somos incorporados a la Iglesia y hechos partícipes de su misión” – CCC1213
En general, aquellos que deseen tener un hijo (menor de 7 años) bautizado aquí deben estar registrados, como feligreses activos de la Iglesia Católica Santa María, Mt. Ángel durante al menos seis meses antes del bautismo.
Los padres y padrinos deben asistir a las clases de preparación para el bautismo antes de establecer la fecha del bautismo, a menos que el párroco lo justifique.
Los padrinos deben ser bautizados, confirmados y católicos practicantes sin ningún impedimento (Por ejemplo, si están casados deberían estar por la iglesia y si son solteros deben no convivir con otra persona y deben poder comulgar). Una carta se debe enviar a la Iglesia de Santa María de parte de la parroquia de los padrinos aclarando esta verdad.
El certificado de nacimiento del niño tiene que ser presentado.
Si no está registrado en la Parroquia de Santa María y viven entre los límites de otra parroquia, necesitamos una carta de permiso del Párroco para administrar el Sacramento del Bautismo. Los bautizos se llevan acabo cada tercer domingo del mes después de la Misa en Español 12:30pm.
